There’s no denying that was a really disappointing game, especially given they’ve had a fortnight to prepare and that Ayr didn’t look all that brilliant themselves. Stinking refereeing aside, I don’t think we did enough to win that. That said, there’s positives to be taken.

Paton’s finish was top class. We don’t look as much of a bombscare at the back (Thomson and Bannon incidents aside). Our build-up play is a bit better also now we’ve abandoned the instance on not passing it further than 10 yds. I also didn’t realise Welsh had been sent off (must’ve been in the bog) until after the match also, so that either says something about our character or how crap Ayr were.

I thought our defensive formation & positioning was really good throughout. The 2nd Ayr goal came as soon as we stepped off and began dropping deeper into our own box however. The reason why that formation works for Scotland is because there’s constantly someone pressing the ball (Usually McGinn, Adams or Dykes).

Understandably, our ‘QP B Graduates’ like Bruce and Mauchin need to find consistency. Both played very well v Dunfermline & Raith, but Mauchin especially was ripped apart in that first half before improving a little. I also felt despite his ‘Wing Back’ position, Bruce didn’t get forward anywhere near as much as he should’ve- although there was a constant lack of runners for him. These guys are still learning, but given our position we don’t have the luxury of a deep well of patience. I’d be looking at playing McPherson for now as he edges it defensively for me.

I felt Thomas was pretty ineffective as a 10. When he broke through, he either dribbled into bother or was marked out the game. I fear though we don’t have another option to fit Thomas in given Davidson’s preferred 3-5-2 however. Same goes for Turner. He didn’t have anywhere near his usual influence.

The need for experience and quality is blatantly obvious if we’re to make any go of a relegation battle. At very least Davidson’s said he’s working on bringing two experienced heads in. A Striker (Williamson/McLeish at the moment isn’t good enough be our backup) and CB to pair Bannon are essential. As said above, Celtic B prospects aren’t the ‘experience’ we need.

I agree with this summation. I also like a 3-5-2 set up but we must realise there is no place for Thomas in that set up. He is a winger and very effective at that but bring him into the middle and he just doesn't perform. He cannot be happy with this and I wonder if we might lose him in this window? Also neither Bruce nor Mauchin are up for these positions yet.

  2. Whilst the referee was a shocker there were two honking teams out there. I could not see what formation Davidson was trying but it certainly did not work. Mauchin was like a wee boy lost, frightened to go forward. There was no movement off the ball and nobody urging them on. We badly need a leader on the park. Bruce was ineffective and this is not his position and sadly today Thomas just was not there. If we do not get reinforcements soon we are heading for Div 1 and obscurity for some time. The next two months will be a turning point in the history of Queens Park. I hope we make the right turn.

I know that it’s very tough to do good business in the January window. Welsh could be a very shrewd acquisition. If we’re signing untried & untested guys like Haspell and Carse however though, I have my fears.

Davidson’s mentioned in the pre-match video he hopes to bring in another couple; hopefully he can get these over the line asap. It’d have been very nice to have had these in for tomorrow, given it’s the literal definition of a 6-pointer.

I thought with St Johnstone signing Connor Smith that would open the door for Stevie May on loan. I do think we also desperately need a CB.

With regards to the Ayr game on Saturday I have just heard that the Ayr fans will be next to us in the West stand. This is disgracefull and penny pinching on behalf of the club. We have endured nonsense this season with bad language and intimidation from several fans of other clubs sitting close to us. Have the committee not learned their lesson. Away fans should be in the East stand. With two new members on the committee I am surprised that they have allowed this to happen.

Our incompetence goes on and on.

I see Scott Williamson is getting recalled from his loan at Cove according to the daily record. Would be fine to have him sitting on the bench for some energy for the last 10 mins of games once Paton is gubbed but I assume we’ll see some attacking reinforcements this month anyway

I think in terms of his own career, he really needs another loan move, probably down to league 2 to the likes of a Clyde maybe ?

Good of the club to tell us??????

This comment has annoyed me for nearly a week now, and let me just say despite our (many 👀) disagreements in the past this is absolutely no dig at you and I appreciate you passing on the information that you did.

Compare and contrast the two following AGM updates, from Queen's Park and then this post this evening from Partick Thistle. Yes ok, one of these clubs is now fan owned and one is not, but honestly that shouldn't make a difference. Why can a proper update not be given to all Queen's Park fans to ensure everyone knows what has happened, what is happening and what is going to happen in the immediate to near future? That's exactly what the PTFC update gives their fans, yet the vast majority of QP fans are left in the dark as to what the plans are for our club.

The club wouldn't have to worry about "print media distorting stories" if they actually just came out and laid all the facts out to everyone. It is the cloud of secrecy that they are so desperate to protect that encourages this exact behaviour from the press. I hope that the changes to the committee mean things will be better in the future, but right now it is still not good enough.

Brilliant. Our problem, particularly with the most recent committees, is frightened men with little ability deluded by perceived power. Their thought process is if they share information they will lose their power.

The clown who single-handedly got us chucked out of the Scottish Cup for the first in the club's 156 year history is now president. Jesus fucking wept.

Also worth pointing out that it took them an entire working day to get a 300-word statement out, during which time supporters were only able to find out the news on here or on the grapevine.

If I had realised that was the idiot who was now President when I last posted my mood would have been quite different. God help us!!!!

  8. Thank you to those guys who have helped inform the general support. It is much appreciated. My concern and interpretation of your comments is worrying in that when all boiled down very little has changed. We have a new president who doesn't seem to have grasped the feeling of the support. There is no progress on Lesser. Happy to sit with the present arrangement with the SFA. If we drop a division there will likely be an argument that we don't need a bigger complex so nothing will be done. What if we stay in the Championship and fall out with the SFA (easily done)? We will have outdated plans for temporary stands no doubt at vastly increased cost and possibly subject to different building and H&S regulations. No plans for the future of our Ladies' team at Lesser. We have two new Committee members and wholehearted congratulations and best wishes to them but in my experience a small injection of fresh blood is such a huge task amongst dinosaurs and we mustn't look for miracles in the short term.

These are just observations and , as ever, none of it is likely to change my lifestyle and I will continue to support the team through thick and thin.

If he can return Robson to his late 2022 form and get a tune out of Charlie Fox and/or Will Tizzard, ideally bringing in an experienced CB to play between them and a striker able to stretch defences and to assist Paton, I'll be happy although I'll temper that with wondering who, if we do get another striker in, would be likely to miss out; assuming Thomas will play, would it likely be Turner?

If a striker comes in, and I hope he does, I would assume a 3-5-2 formation or perhaps 5-3-2. Either way I don't see where Thomas fits in. An experienced CB is essential to release Thomson to midfield. By the looks of Charlie Fox on Saturday he won't be back soon.
