I see that "Ronaldo's Al Nassr" have now lost two out two so far this season.

Weren't they leading the title race last season until he showed up?

Meanwhile Messi is carrying his team to first trophy in their history.

So that settles any doubt who is better.

The top level in every country is full of corruption, tapping up of youth players, dodgy agents and unscrupulous (at best) owners.

Ultimately cash is the only consideration and that goes for the clubs, the people running the game and the broadcasters, to think anything else is naive in the extreme.

Personally I use it all for my own ends from a betting medium and I don't even attempt to take any sort of moral high ground as despite all the virtue signalling throughout the English game we all know what they're really about  and why.....

I agree with this to an extent. I gotta draw the line somewhere. I won't be partaking in supporting Saudi regime. Not judging others for it. JUst not for me.

    So it begins

I'm pretty sure they wrote the same article when Beckham turned up

Or when Thierry Henry turned up

    Or when Zlatan turned up

    Or when Bale turned up

I don't think Messi will make MLS as big as Big 4 (NHL, NBA, NFL, MLB) leagues as they are known in US, but he's a much bigger deal than those names you mentioned.

Only Pele to Cosmos is comparable.

I've read he's going to spend 6 months at Barca.

That was the rumor. I think Barcelona confirmed that’s not the case with rather classless tweet.

I'd exclude the top five leagues from the Conference League. Their presence their skews the competition. Italian winner last year. Italian or English winner this year. Probably Villa next year.

That's not really what this competition should be. They've got the other two for that.

Even as a West Ham supporter, that would be ideal. Of course UEFA would never go for it, because of money involved.

Not sure if this is the right thread or not, but a hell of a finish to the season in Belgium today:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/65805961

With 89 minutes gone, Union Saint-Gilloise were top.

With 90 minutes gone, Genk were going to be champions.

With 94 minutes gone, Antwerp scored to win their first title in 64 years.

Was there any other football today? Probably not :whistle

Don't pay all that much attention to Belgium football tbh, but without their playoff system, who would have won the title?

One good thing about the Lib Dems not throwing the towel in yet: it keeps Americans looking ridiculous when using terms like "Marxist" and "liberals" in the same sentence.

Ah yes, you have to watch those pesky middle-class schoolteachers or they'll seize the means of production right out from under you.

Gist of right wing America for you. Can't define woke, or Marxism, or socialism, but throw them out there anyway as bogeyman.

I don’t recall there being a referendum on whether to be part of an anti-EU rogue state eight years ago (or ever). I remember voting to be part of an EU member state, but that’s it.

But Britain voted to leave. That’s democracy for you. In hind sight Scotland should have waited to see how it would play out before having a referendum.

It was 9 years ago, before the Unionist-caused Brexit and subsequent cost of living crisis.

Cost of living crisis is everywhere. I see no reason why independent Scotland would have been exempt from it.

And voters should have been aware Brexit was a possibility and not believe David Cameron.

I am not against Scottish independence or anything like that. Quite the opposite. I can’t stand tories and if you guys can get another referendum god bless you. I just can’t see how it’s justifiable.

If by a couple of years ago, you mean over 8 years ago. Then yes, they "gave" us a referendum, on their terms. Good to know we can have one when another country is feeling generous, not when our own country votes for a mandate that is committed to one.

8 years isn’t really that long time though. Having a referendum and then if the result don’t go their way demanding there be another one seems hardly democratic unless there is a reason to believe it was rigged.
