  1. 44,000 there that night. Landed about 9 rows in front of my Dad after that goal, we were in the King Street end. My first cup replay, 9 years old at the time, great memories.
  2. Not really, didn't think we deserved anything from the game it's just that some of your cohorts seem to be in a permanent state of rage.
  3. You are such an angry classless individual. You seem to have a permanent hate for the Don's. I'd hate to see a response from you if you had lost. Clown.
  4. Abysmal performance from us. Don't see any fight or any sort of emotion from this team at all.
  5. Off to Puerto Vallrta tomorrow for two weeks. Going to be -30 on Wednesday here so good timing. February 10 and heading to Fiji and New Zealand for 3 weeks. Middle of May we're going to Porto to start our Camino de Santiago walk. 250 km in 12 days up the Portuguese coast and into Spain to Santiago. Did the central Portuguese route in 2022 and it was a great experience so really looking forward to this one.
  6. No need thanks I remember it very well. The Avs were the better team in that playoff round, not disputing that in the slightest and I have already acknowledged how great that Makar and McKinnon are. You obviously don't think McDavid is better than both of them so let's agree to disagree here.
  7. Looking at the league through burgundy coloured glasses here. As good as they are, McKinnon can't do half the things on ice that McDavid can. McKinnon has only racked up 100 points once in his career and McDavid has done it six times, including a remarkable 153 points last year. And yes, McKinnon has a Stanley Cup, but I'm sure McDavid time will come. After a dreadful 2-9-1 start to the year, the Oilers are 14-3 since November 24th, the best record in the league by far. It seems that finally this team has far more balanced scoring and are not relying on McDavid and Draisaitl every night.
  8. Interesting that Turnbull never started the same first XI in each round of the cup that year. Ernie McGarr played against Clyde and I think maybe Kirkland and Hamilton played a couple of games. Squad depth was obviously a thing in 1969-70.
  9. Maybe 1975 when it became Grampian Transport? Seems to ring a bell in the old brain.
  10. Agree. I believe that 1970/71 team was amongst the best in the club's history. A tremendous side.
  11. At least the Flames had the good sense to fire Sutter. He cost you in the playoffs last season and not even making the post season this year. His old school ways have caught up to him.
  12. Carolina have done it already in 2006 against your obviously favourite Oilers.
  13. The old curse of the Presidents Trophy winners. There have been 37 winners of the trophy and only 8 have won the Stanley Cup. Last team was the 2012-2012 Blackhawks. I think the Bruins clinched a playoff spot in March so maybe it's a mindset thing. Can only hope the Panthers can take care of the Leafs. Their fans will be unbearable if they win that series.
  14. 100% agree on Patrick Roy, certainly a difference maker, although that great Avs team still managed to lose in the first round of the '98 playoffs to the Oil after being up 3-1. Curtis Joseph being the difference maker in the series. I don't know if you see much of the Oilers but they are a way different proposition this season, especially after the All Star break and the trade deadline. We're much bigger at the back end and the power play is other worldly. Don't make predictions but we have so much more to our game and Leon won't be playing on one leg these playoffs. Good luck to you.
  15. I'll see your MacKinnon and Rantanen and raise you Connor McDavid as he scores his 150th point of the season. Only the 6th player in NHL history to do so and the first since 95-96. And to add to that Leon Draisaitl has 124 points and is second in scoring. I've been in Edmonton since 1987 and have seen Gretky, Lemieux etc so McDavid's feat is remarkable. Colorado have had some good teams but their success might not have come about if Eric Lindros had not refused to be drafted by the Nordiques and was subsequently traded to the Flyers for Peter Forsberg among others. Of course the team moved from Quebec to Denver and have had great success there. Sometimes the seemingly small details get overlooked.
  16. McDavid with goals 59 and 60 last night. It's unbelievable getting to watch him night after night. Still 10 games to go and I wouldn't bet against him reaching 70 for the season.
  17. Scored a terrific hat-trick against Celtic at home in 1975. Was in the south stand with a Celtic supporting mate for this one. Great game.
  18. Pretty solid performance today I thought, especially 2nd half. Some no nonsense defending from both centre halves, getting it out when needed. A deserved 3 points overall.
  19. Depends how far back you want to go, "Gentleman" George Hamilton (before my time), Ernie Winchester, Jim Bett, Scott Severin, Lee Miller, out of that list, Jim Bett by a country mile. Many others I'm sure but Bett would be my pick.
  20. My Old Man worked for Rowntrees, always a special day when he came home with a carton of these that were "missed " at a stock count.
  21. Off to Porto on Monday where we start the Camino walk to Santiago de Compostela. Just over 200 km in about 12 days. Really looking forward to this, been a bucket list item for a few years now. We booked some time in Porto and Lisbon after the walk before we fly back to Canada. Any tips on both places would be appreciated.
  22. On the contrary. I've watched every game on RedTV this season. To answer another poster's question around what I based my statement on, not sure really. Call it blind optimism if you will because logically, of course, based on our record so far in 2022, we just don't seem capable enough. I do like to think that maybe the players will realise what's at stake here. Do I believe we will be relegated? Absolutely not but there is no doubt about the significance of the task ahead. I'm old enough to remember the clear out that Eddie Turnbull performed whenbhe arrived and I do feel we will see somerhing similar, although not 17 players, this off season.
  23. I see we have two home games up first post split. Livi and Dundee. I do believe we will get full points here.
  24. A superb player for the Dons. 60 goals in 129 starts is a great return for a midfield player. Signed as a replacement for Strachan and criminally underestimated and appreciated by a section of the support.
