Shadow of the Colossus (PS4, 2018)

I picked this up the other day after reading your review. I've not touched the PS4 since finishing God Of War: Ragnarok so I'm looking forward to a change of pace away from mammoth open-world games (although GOW:R was a lot less grindy than both Horizon: Forbidden West and Ghost of Tsushima).

    15. Godland - Cinema

I wasn't necessarily emotionally invested, but I was completely engrossed by the filmmaking and ideas. It's probably the best 2023 release I've seen so far.

I went to see this tonight. I thought that half of it was very good, and the other half just didn't engage me at all. Unfortunately there wasn't a clear divide between those halves, so one minute had me glued to the screen and then a minute later I was pondering literally anything other than what was on the screen. Yet... when it was good, I was completely transfixed. It looked terrific though.

  3. Caught most of this last night. I thought Aberdeen's second goal was probably onside but the Shinnie tackle was probably a red card.

The goal was a frustrating one to lose and Laidlaw should have done a lot better. It looked like he just collapsed but maybe he just slipped. However, it was probably a fair result - I can't remember the Aberdeen keeper having much to do other than organising at countless corner kicks.

The football was rubbish. Hoofing the ball for White to flick it on to Murray (it obviously worked against St Johnstone) was like watching a reenactment of a medieval siege. For a manager who spent time in the #Barclays and was some sort of SFA Performance Director, the football isn't particularly innovative or exciting when you don't have the directness of Charles-Cook / Hungbo or the creativity of Dhanda. But maybe I'm being unfair as, other than highlights, this was the first 90 minutes I've seen since... whenever the last televised game was last season.

One positive is that Dylan Smith looks like he could be a very good player. He's the second best centre-half at the club based on current form.

I suspect County will be fine. Either scraping 10th or having too much up front for whichever Championship team gets to the play-off final. But unless something changes over the summer, it's just going to be the same stuff next season.

  4. There's a lot of good music around just now (and over the last decade and a bit too). It's just your average P&B poster who whinges about the state of music today is only spoon fed whatever stuff Radio 1 and Radio 2 want them to hear.

It's similar to complaining about how modern cinema is rubbish because Marvel movies and whatever garbage reboot we've got this month are mostly terrible. There's a lot of good stuff out there if you're prepared to look for it.

  5. Kettlewell is probably in my top three favourite County players of all time. He wasn't as technically gifted as Brittain, Lawson, or Vigurs but he made such a difference to the team with his style of play and work rate. One of those players who probably deserves a lot more credit than he gets: he played in all four tiers and never looked out of his depth.

It was a shame things didn't work out as County manager. But I'm quite glad to see him getting another opportunity at this level.

Probably the joke about vasquez being mistaken for a man when she's doing pullups is deemed offensive

    I'd forgotten about that.

The actress who played Vasquez now runs a lingerie shop in LA.

It's probably to do with the actress being "browned up" to look Latino.

I don't really see too much of an issue with warnings before films - particularly on streaming services. If you go to the cinema then there's a BBFC warning before every film anyway.
