  1. Had to go back to Page 9 to find this thread, kind of sums up how the season has gone.

A terrible result on the last day of the season on paper but with some mitigating circumstances. On the face of it an 8-1 home defeat to the fourth bottom team is a shocker and there's no doubt Craigmark were the better team on the day and worthy of a 2 or 3 goal win even with all things being equal.

But... we had no keeper for three quarters of the game and played the whole second half with our defensive midfielder unable to run, quickly followed by the left back ending up similarly incapacitated after a coming together as they say. With no subs to bring on it was only going to go one way. No help from the referee either with two penalties against us although the second was pretty clear cut.

So onwards and downwards to the first division next year with some tasty looking ties in prospect against all our nearest and dearest. Savings on travel and potentially bigger crowds should soften the blow a bit along with what must surely be an improved showing in the table. I've seen a few of the teams in the league this season and the standard isn't bad so I'm not predicting a quick return for us, if we get top half I think we'll be doing well.

I suppose it is a mark of where we are that you can go away to Larkhall with a weakened team and come away with a 2-0 win and be underehelmed.

We looked in control in the first half but they were better second half, ironically losing 2 goals during that time. The goals were well taken by Ryan, a young player with a lot of potential who could be so much more with a few tweaks...

A good away crowd again and a tense atmosphere at times, especially after the game when a group of young team stood at the end of the road and threw stones at the bus... as we pulled away a larger group of “more capable looking” thugs approached the bus gesticulating and more missiles were thrown... aye.. well done Police Scotland...a red light in the town centre and more young team and a few more stones. I mean, I know it was just idiots but I don’t like it.... the undertones of football in the West has shocked me since I moved back about 3 years ago.... I never fully realised that there is still so much animosity, bigotry and intolerance from both sides. It really is Scotland’s shame and none of it is in my name..... wouldn’t it be great if everyone was harmonious? You can say I’m a dreamer... surely I’m not the only one?

The end of another season when I doubt if I have seen 10 Candy games so I’m not in a position to comment too much... except... Congratulations to the players and staff for their efforts and achievements. The report card reads “could do better” but when you realise that Raheem Sterling’s is obviously the same judging by his post cup final coaching then you realise we can all improve and so we should.

No big written piece today but sometimes things excite me and last night didn’t... that’s ok... because if you take anything from football then it should be the preparation to feel flat at times. Maybe it’s the end of the season blues... or greens.... or maybe some neutral colour...

The Candy are 100 years old next season... happy birthday to the old lady of the Garngad..... despite everything and maybe because of everything, I think I’ll always love you.

    Mon the Candy!

I was disgusted to hear of this, both sides have these hangers on who only come out for one thing but the real fans know that these louts are nothing to do with the club. It is a social problem rather than a football one and Larkhall suffers from it more than most places.

I don't speak on behalf of the club but can say that the vast majority of the people of Larkhall are decent and would be appalled by these acts.

Was speaking to someone close to the club today, seems they were gutted. had set up an area in the car park for the Candy support but there was an issue with a pipe that was fitted recently and it either backed up or burst and flooded the park. Obviously there is history between the clubs so if they are having to segregate fans etc its the same plava for 200 as it would be for ten so theyve probably took a big hit losing todays game as I wouldnt imagine as many Candy supporters will travel on a Wednesday night, that said I wouldnt be surprised if there were more.

Lost a good few bob that the club can hardly afford, personally I think the arrangements were a bit ott given the lack of anticipation of the game and hence probable crowd size. The St Roch's supporters would have gone over to the other side opposite the shed anyway and they could have come round for pies etc without any hassle.

The last time they were at Gasworks was a whole different ball game with it being a promotion decider and winner takes all, this would have been much more low-key.

That tells me it can be done, People just have to think it the box on this idea. Just think An ideal oldstyle junior park hosting a potential all Ayrshire fina packed to the gunnels tense cup final atmosphere, no big gaps or empty stands. Fans near to the players.

A bit of jiggery pockery with the access gates, install mobile portacabins, mutual agreement with Morrisons on parking area and bam you have a decent cup final audience at a football ground.

I'll now await the same few to quickly find an excuse not to do it.

The fans experience is probably one of the last things they consider, if indeed they consider it at all.

The deal has been done, the money sorted, health and safety passed, police OK with it, TV planning done etc etc.

They're not going to start again from scratch because the majority of fans would prefer another venue.

I posted earlier on about the Larkhall game getting abandoned at half time due to the weather,it wax actually due to the linesman going over on his ankle,it's a pity as well because I thought we could've taken Girvan in the 2nd half with the wind helping us

Thought it was a right good game and could have gone either way in the second half. It would have been interesting to see how the new vesion of Thistle reacted to the setback of the equaliser just before half time. As you know some of their reactions to setbacks haven't been too great this season so it would have been good to see how they coped.

That doesn't make any sense at all, why then were the referee and linesmen out at half time bouncing the ball on the park to see if it stuck?

And why were they running about, if the ref had done his ankle he'd be hobbling not running.

More than a coincidence that they were soaked and cold and like another poster said, one of the linos could have reffed it with club officials on the lines, they are meant to be qualified referees.

It was last season they were over for Celtic match and there chaperone had something else came up so he asked me to take them to see St Rochs instead so I took them to Glasgow Perthshire v St Rochs then I got a call on Thursday evening to say they were over again and wanted to go see the Roch so they came down to Dalry yesterday .
Good lads can barely speak a word of English but can certainly drink lol

Glasgow Perthshire, probably the only German tourists to ever visit there, not one for the mainstream guidebooks :)

How did the St Pauli thing come about mate, I know they have a thing with Celtic but wouldn't have thought they'd know much about Scottish junior football?

I have never heard so much rubbish in all my life. Come back to me when you have the stats from Larkhall Thistle’s games from that season and how many Mushet started. Him and Reynolds played a massive part in their promotion that season. How many games did Mushet start that season?  And how many did they win? I’m pretty sure he was the only addition that season and they got promoted from a league they had been in for 5/6 years?.. he must be a terrible player.

Duncan Sinclair took over a Arthurlie  with 5/6 average players from the season before and added as much quality as he could. It was obviously going to take time but they’ve got a team capable of competing at the top end of the league. I think if you asked most Arthurlie supporters at the start of the sssaon they would be more than happy with that?..

This game is all about opinions however please get your facts right before belittling players on a public website.

Interesting to note that's your first post but nonetheless I'll answer your points.

"get your facts right" - virtually the whole post is facts. I could go to the match reports and come back with numbers but Mushet was in and out the team. Reynolds played left back. Thistle were on a 12 game unbeaten run, etc etc they're all facts. I don't have anything against Mushet or Reynolds - as I said Reynolds had a very good season, in fact I voted for him as player of the year. Mushet big and solid and a good defender when he learned how to head a ball. But these aren't facts, they're opinions.

"I’m pretty sure he was the only addition that season" hmmm you seem to have a good knowledge of Thistle - maybe an ex-player?

"belittling players" aye right, I've said repeatedly I have nothing against them and they both contributed a lot to to Thistle especially Niall Reynolds but even if I had, the whole point of the forum is to voice your opinion and I voiced mine. You said it was rubbish and that's your opinion and you're entitled to it.

As for the Arthurlie side of it, I don't know I've only seen them once this season (against us) and the clips from the Glencairn game. Arthurlie lost two goals in that game that were both straight down the middle where I would have expected my centre halfs to be. Hence I made the comment about their lack of pace. If the two of them have been great in Arthurlie's other games and have propelled them to the top 3, fair play to them and to Sinky for sticking by them, as I say I wouldn't know.

But to suggest that the addition of Mushet was the reason that Thistle got promoted after 7 seasons in Division 1 is laughable, there was a team spirit that came about from Sinky and Tam being there long term with players who had played together for 5+ seasons and had gelled as a team - Gracie, Brown, Innes, Canning, Jack, Reynolds, McKeever, Kelly, Reid from memory but a few more too all played a much bigger part in getting Thistle promoted than Mushet did.

    In my opinion.

I’m guessing your something to do with larkhall... and it’s great how you slag off Mushet and Reynolds in this comment.. this was the centre half pairing that got larkhall promoted and have taken arthurlie to 3rd just now in one of the hardest leagues out there.. and other thing glencairn didn’t do anything in that game apart from there 2 goals arthurlie hit the bar twice and were the much better team throughout the game apart from 15mins at the end

I'm guessing you don't know much about Thistle or the promotion campaign, Mushet was in and out of the team and Reynolds played the whole season at left back. Thistle were on a 12 game unbeaten run (10 wins) then Mushet came back into the team and they lost at home to Wishaw, the following week at Neilston he was dropped but he came on at half time with the score 2-2 and Thistle lost. That's not to say he neccessarily cost them the games or that he wasn't any good but he had no pace then and it's two years further on. As for Reynolds he had a very good season, but at left back.

But feel free to come back at the end of the season when the two of them have  helped take Arthurlie up.

Very disappointed not to have taken the 3 points after being 2 goals up.  If Slicks shot had gone in rather than hit the bar i don't think Glens would have come back from it.  Personally i think it's the best game i have seen this season.  2 teams going at it from start to finish .  At 2-0 up with about 15 to go Arthurlie gradually were pushed further and further back and the inevitable happened.  I thought it was a great game to watch.  After their comeback to deservedly take a point Glencairn are a sure thing to go up.  Good luck to them and hopefully we can continue to get stronger and join them next season.

Just watched the highlights of the game there, great video btw, well done on that. Crowd was a bit disappointing, I thought there would have been more for a game between two teams going for promotion.

Can't see Arthurlie having a realistic chance of going up with a central defensive partnership of Reynolds and Mushet though, they have a combined total of zero pace but are both manager's favourites so I take it they play most weeks. Both the Glencairn goals were right down the middle where better or faster centre halfs might have dealt with the threat.

Glencairn play some good football at this level though and looked to be worth at least a draw from what was shown there.

  12. I wouldn't exactly say that the win has been coming, we've been rotten for most of the season but we seemed to have stemmed the tide in the run up towards Christmas with only odd-goal defeats in 5 out of 6 games making the gubbings in January at Kilsyth and Benburb look more like a blip in our gradual progress.

I predicted last week we'd get more points on the board and a win or two so didn't take long to come to fruition.

A 0-0 draw in your last match is hardly 'in form' although certainly an improvement in what has gone before. However a win has to come sometime and today would be a good day to start.

    Whooosh :P

I know mate, one draw after 20 odd defeats isn't exactly in-form, hence the the tongue-out emoticon

Anyway that's a draw and then a win, it's getting nearer to in-form - unbeaten in February!

    St Roch's (10th) v Whitletts Victoria (5th)

    Your thoughts ?

Surprised at the number of people going for the in-form Jags to get beaten by a mid-table side :P

  16. Great performance today from the lads and has been said it could and probably should have been a win. I was in two minds at the end, happy to get a point on the board but strangely disappointed that it wasn't all three. The game was there for the taking and a goal we got disallowed was blatantly onside.

Looks like a different prospect playing Thistle for the rest of the season and we will difinitely pick up more points and even a win or two.

As a Roch fan that's the one game that worries me .
The easiest thing is to say comfortable candy win but I'm reliably informed that we have never won at the Gasworks and I sure regardless of what's gone on and previous results the Larkhall boys will play this like a cup final and if we turn up expecting to win then we might end up with egg on our face.
Anyway looking forward to my visit in a fortnight I expect it will be packed and be a smashing game .
Just hope one of you lads on here send me over a cuppa tea and a bridie lol emoji106.png

It won't be packed mate, the plight of the Thistle this season and the fact it's a league game will keep the home crowd down. Maybe a few more than normal but nowhere near packed.

The best we can hope for is that the weather keeps up and we get a postponement, things might be happening behind the scenes and who knows we might get some players in, a rescheduled midweek game for the light nights with us having picked up a few points before it would probably see a much bigger crowd.

So much for the 'new manager bounce effect' then bud.:(

Ps.I'll be doing a double check on the freezers next time I'm in the Larky Iceland shop. :)

Not so much a bounce as a dull thud as the team hit rock bottom

Unfortunately it's become a sub plot within the league as the other teams compete with each other to see who can score the most. The way the Benburb coaching staff were roaring to get the ball back and go again after every goal you'd think it had been us who were winning.

    Well maybe not :(

Just to also clarify some of the issues that keep arising on this site.
We are at present looking to arrange meetings with our council regarding every issue that not only away supporters but our own supporters feel are important for the club to move forward.
We will continue to push towards putting plans in place so that Huntershill can in time be a ground that every supporter looks forward to visiting.
We ask for everyone’s patience for the remainder of the season and in time we hope that the council will agree to our proposals and help promote Rossvale fc within the semi professional level of Scottish football.

If you could say for definite that there were plans in place for some sort of improvements however gradual, most people would be on your side and support you as it's obvious you haven't got money to make sweeping changes right away.

An issue I have heard other clubs have with you is that you pay a nominal sum to the council for the hire of the park for two hours then the rest of the money you raise goes towards players, hence your progress up the leagues. Other clubs have the running of their facilities to pay which leaves them a lot less in the pot for players, when you couple this with the match experience at Rossvale that is where some of the resentment is coming from.

No pie hut, no bar, no cover, no terracing, no atmosphere. Think that covers it

Unfortunately these community facilities seem to be the way ahead for a lot of junior teams, including eventually my own.

Any team that has its own ground in a sellable location is vulnerable to a possible ground buyout, albeit with some of the replacement grounds being at least a bit better than the rest (Carluke, Petershill for example)
