The New Raith Rovers Thread
Broken Algorithms replied to Hank Scorpio's topic in Scottish Championship General Chatter
I'm sure all parties are relatively happy with how things have worked out. He'll feel that when he gets a chance to break into the team at Thistle, he can do the same as he did with us. He'll be on more money with them and has the safety of a longer deal. We struggled defensively both before and after he left so it's much of a muchness, but time will tell whether both James Brown and Ashcroft change that for us. -

He got on last weekend right at the end of their match. Other than that, he's not featured afaik. -

What's that got to do with our current board? Fan action ensured he never played, and then a year later there's a takeover with new ownership who have pursued a far more engaging approach. Still, best of luck with the current approach of your current outlook of desperately trying to cling on the coattails of St Pauli. -

If they wanted to improve fan engagement, all they had to do was to come along the A92. -

Story of our season. Almost every person who has signed has commented that Potter sold the club to them. He's been an excellent addition to the staff. -

It was mentioned a little while back on the podcast by Duncan we had a chance to be big stack bullies in this league given our circumstances, and this feels very much the case. I don't doubt this is a deal we've been looking at for a good while and I think from the outside it gave the optics that we'd miss out by virtue of getting James Brown in. You're now looking at a back line of Dick - Watson/Murray/Ashcroft - Brown. I've no idea if there's any truth that Murray needs surgery, but if so this is a really good move. This season is absolutely laughable compared to last campaign where we were 3 lads on the bench and half the squad injured at the end. -

Said as much last night. I can't recall a season when I've supported where one team has had near total dominance. We were a few Mehmet wondersaves away from having 5 wins. -

I'm sure if you asked Dumbarton or Ayr fans about Kevin Nisbet, they'd have told you he was a useless forward. The same goes for Ryan Hardie at St Mirren. I wasn't impressed by Fotheringham in his very short loan with us, but he clearly gained a lot of confidence with Stirling and kicked on from that. Had you told me a couple of seasons ago he'd be well ahead of Ethan Ross in terms of Scottish football, I'd have laughed in your face. -
Ayr United v Raith Rovers

Do they still do the train direct from Edinburgh to Ayr? I got that one down and back from said Barry Smith game. Abject misery. -

In fairness, we've been to Greenock and Ayr so many times over the last few years. When it's been a larger game (see Barry Smith waiting to change from a 4-5-1 at 3-0 down) we've taken decent supports. I'd expect Saturday will be a larger support than usual. -

Most of us were up until about 2am. Should be said that there was a serious discussion about recording last night immediately after the game. -

Yeah that's fair, but I think the landscape changes quite quickly with these sorts of things. Ashcroft kept getting into Dundee's starting eleven, and if you chuck in the speculation about what's happened behind the scenes with Millen it might be we've seen Brown as a better alternative. On paper, Turner ticks all the boxes. He's a good player who was in the Championship team of the season last year. For whatever reason, he's not seemed to fit in to our system. The return of Stanton only amplifies that - if we try to shoehorn in a player who has been ineffective for one who has been very effective then it'll no doubt raise very large questions. I think it's been a case that he's been available and we've still known we'd get some form of defensive cover in. -

We've got Keith Watson back now, and added a player who can play across the back. It's been dispelled numerous times but contrary to popular belief we've got a wage budget which I'd expect is fully utilised now. I can't imagine we'd be looking to add another centre half in. -
We spoke a bit last night on the podcast (shamelessly plugged in my signature) about it, but this must be one of the guest times in a good number of years where we've had literally every player available to pick.

Must be rough when your older fans can talk about games against Barcelona, while your younger fans are beefing with clubs from Fife. -

In fairness, the Press tend to run 90% of their interviews nowadays with "Speaking to Raith TV". They'd be as well just putting a QR code on the back page with a link to the pre or post match interview. -

Amazed Chalmers isn't in the first category. There's a running joke among our fan base that he's like watching a player from a charity match in a senior game. He looks like a pea hearted shitebag. -

Almost like he's been found out in a division where he's not grinding out results against part time teams and winning against Falkirk.
