  1. Queens v Inverness

Could be beans on toast and a night in front of the telly for Mrs. Naysmith after that ! Actually, I quite enjoyed the game today. We set up and approached the game very similar to Ayr (H) and produced some entertaining attacking football to be enjoyed. We really should have been out of sight with the number of good chances we created before JR changed the game. I was both surprised and relieved to see White and Austin on the bench today but boy, did they make a difference when introduced. Fair play to JR as he must have thought we have nothing to lose, let's go for it and see where it takes us.
  2. Queens v Inverness

We did have a very experienced and effective one of those but he was let go. Another example of poor Management by Naysmith with no credible striking option available from the bench or to cover injury/suspension.
  3. The Queen of the South Thread

He has been unable to conceal his anger in numerous interviews and openly criticised and blamed players on several occasions. I only have this second hand but am led to believe that after the East Fife match to which you refer he was far from happy and in his comments to the media stated that his weekend had been ruined and that he was not able to fulfil a dinner date with his wife due to his reaction to the performance that day and that he had let the players know this too. That is absolutely pathetic and I repeat, shows a weakness in character and self control. If your work, whatever that might be, affects you and your family in that way then it's time to try something else.

As regards the game itself I thought it was a hard-earned point. As expected, Ayr were much slicker than us with much more possession and more goalscoring opportunities but we stuck to our task and gained the reward for that. I really enjoyed the experience yesterday as it reminded me of days gone by. A dank, grey November day floodlights on and a greasy grass pitch at a traditional old ground that I first visited around 50 years ago. The support was great yesterday and so much better to have a terracing to use than a soul-less all seater.
  5. The Queen of the South Thread

Just before we scored Naysmith was having a right go at Doyle for something but Doyle was giving it back too. However, Naysmith's comments to the written press confirm what has already been alluded to. Shock, horror - fans disagree with Managers decision and let him know about it ! He really should be above reacting to that or letting it affect him in any way - it's been happening all the 50 years I have been watching football and will continue long after I have gone. I do not agree with vile, personal abuse but absolutely believe that fans should be able to articulate their views on the Manager, players and their performance, no matter how crass or ill informed those views maybe - everyone is entitled to their opinion. Anyone in Football Management should be well aware of what happens and be professional enough and have belief in their own ability to ignore and rise above it. For a Manager even to react to that, let alone the sarcastic tone Naysmith has employed shows a lack of character and self control. Based on his mood and comments in various interviews since he took over I have long suspected he had a weakness in this area. A good Manager - not just in football - cannot be effective when he is not calm and in control and able to demonstrate leadership to those he is expected to motivate and get the best out of. Let's just hope everyone in the Old Stand remains silent on Saturday and thereafter.
  6. Ayr v Queens

Absolutely spot on. After the Ayr (H) performance I thought Naysmith had finally seen the error of his ways or perhaps been given some advice from within to start playing some decent attractive football for us to enjoy. Sadly, it only lasted 2 weeks and he reverted to type. The tactics employed in recent away games will not work against Ayr - they are too good for that - and will only result in wave after wave of them attacking and scoring freely. We need to go out from the off, as we did at Palmerston, and look to take the initiative and build a lead. That's what I would like to see but if it results in a 'doing' then so be it. I would far rather we go down having a go than sitting back and taking a beating. I suspect whatever we try tomorrow it will be a very daunting task as Ayr are on a great run right now and will be desperate to atone for that humiliation at Palmerston.

Sadly, I am going to have to but with good reason. My memory has just been jogged by 'Show Racism the Red Card' publicity. Recently at Firhill after Partick had introduced their late subs there was a clear Racist comment by someone behind me. I turned around but was unable to identify which individual in the group had descended to such a disgusting level - if I had been able to they would have been reported to the authorities. I guess they will know who they are but will not feel ashamed in any way or else they would not have uttered the unacceptable comments in the first place. This proves we still have a need for this campaign.
  8. The Queen of the South Thread

Good to hear Danny Carmichael starring for Cumnock Juniors in a MOM performance. Felt really sorry for him when leaving last season and wondered what would happen with him. After starring with us he got his 'big' move to Hibs but then all went wrong through injury. All the best to him and if he stays with Cumnock he will be joining up again with Burns and McKenna, Oh to have those 3 back at their peak !
  9. Queens v Ayr

At the moment, Ayr have got what we have experienced in recent years - a real buzz and feel-good factor around their Club. They should enjoy it as long as it lasts, just as we did. I'm not getting into any " who is the bigger Club nonsense" but I think there are a lot of parallels between the Clubs as we have both had long periods in the doldrums interspersed with periodic , relative success. Somerset is, and always will be, my favourite away ground - probably to do with THAT Cup-tie n 1976 when we took 2,500 and witnessed heroics from the late, great Allan Ball. It is a traditional, old fashioned ground like Palmerston and generates a great atmosphere. Should be a very entertaining game on Saturday.
  10. The Queen of the South Thread

I reckon that too but Naysmith is on record as saying those are not his instructions !
  11. The Queen of the South Thread

To quote the late, great, James Sanderson " were you at the game today ? " Whatever his name, their number 9 was a nuisance all game but then again to cause our defence a problem may not be the greatest recommendation !
  12. The Queen of the South Thread

Well , well , not much has changed. Passed off the Park for the first 35 minutes by a very confident and comfortable on the ball Stranraer side whilst we continued to punt it aimlessly long, Last season Naysmith said those were not his instructions and that the players were deciding to do it. I cannot believe they choose to defy him so repeatedly and can only deduce that he is actually authorising that approach. Time after time Bell - as Murray was last season - was in acres of space on the right but we chose to bypass him and lump it up. On the rare occasion we did try to find him it took 2 or 3 passes to get there instead of 1 resulting in Stranraer defenders having time to mark up. As I said, they were much slicker and sharper in their passing than we were. I really was hoping Naysmith would have sorted out our defensive frailties for this season but that first 35 minutes was appalling and the remainder of the game we looked dodgy every time they attacked. How on earth are we going to cope against decent Championship teams ? We will not be able to give any of them a 2 goal start and still come out on top.. I do not believe a defence containing Robinson, Hamill, Dowie and Higgins could perform any worse than what we witnessed today. Still, the Manager knows best. Lyle would still offer much more than Dykes ever will - still too easily outmuscled and lightweight. In actual fact, I was much more impressed by their number 9 - Layne I think - and since we are looking for a striker I would strongly consider him. Great pace, good touch and general nuisance all game. Indeed several of their players were very impressive. Credit to their Manager as - apart from crazy 5 minute spell - they looked well organised, disciplined and very comfortable playing football the way it should be played - something Naysmith has failed to do since he first arrived. Obviously , pleased to score 5 and win the game but we will struggle all season against better teams if we continue to defend like that. Dobbie and Harkins showed their class but we cannot rely on them to get us out of such a mess every game.
  13. The Queen of the South Thread

According to the papers today Stirling is not in our plans with both Dumbarton and Ayr interested. If this is true why on earth did Naysmith sign him in the first place ? Yet another example of his poor management skills - he would rather ditch people than work with them to get the best out of them. It seems the majority of fans thought he had something to offer but was never given a decent chance. Will this be another contract that has to be paid up which we can ill afford ?
  14. The Queen of the South Thread

An opinion, but based on what ?
  15. The Queen of the South Thread

Hugely disappointing . Your wording suggests that is all down to the player himself but if I have got that wrong then surely you would have to agree that it was down to extremely poor judgement by our Manager in not selecting him when fit and available and playing him up front with Dobbie - hugely intelligent, talented partnership.
  16. The Queen of the South Thread

Let's hope we sign him up then ! Probably would with a different Manager at the helm. It's just nonsense that ' he's done' . I always thought he would continue as he is still fit and smart enough to pla y regularly. He has been disgracefully under utilised this season by Naysmith, he is the one that should be going - hopefully still time for that to happen. If not staying with us , my money would be joining up with Beany at Dumbarton. Wherever he is all the best to him.
  17. Queens v Inverness

Absolutely nothing to play for but I hope all supporters will recognise the significance of 21st April game. The opportunity to pay tribute to the legend that is Derek Lyle and what will be his last appearance for us at Palmerston. It's a real shame that his finale is taking place amidst a dreadful home run - and season - but I hope many can put that to the side and come along and create a bit of atmosphere for his farewell. Of course this is dependent on him being selected but as there is no other purpose or meaning to this game whoever is in charge - if they can't work it out for themselves - should be instructed to start Del and take him off with about 5/10 mins to go to receive the applause he so richly deserves for his outstanding contribution to Queen of the South Football Club over many years. I am sure every fan would want this to happen and boy, do we deserve something to stir some positive emotion within us at this difficult time So, 4-4-2 with Dobbie and Lyle up front and hopefully a goal or two for the man himself.
  18. Queens v Inverness

Wasn't there yesterday but that is spot on for all the games I have been at and indeed for most of the season.
  19. Doonhamers v Bairns

I don.t think we are either good enough or deserving of a play-off place this season but it's important to keep going. Dunfermlines next 2 games are Livi (H) and Falkirk (A) both of which are loseable. If - and it's a huge if - we were to win our next 2 we would be back above them. Morton have Livi next which is another huge game. If Livi were to continue their great form then we would be right back in it. It has been - and still is - very difficult to be motivated to go this season ( worst since relegation) but I like a midweek match, have time off work and the temperature looks to be rising so I'll give it a go. I have a vision in my mind of what I would like - hope - to see tomorrow but fully realise Naysmith will probably not have the same one and will come up with the usual fayre. With Dobbie and Dykes out , Del has to start alongside Todorov with Todd fulfilling the 'Russell' role on the left. With those two up front, never mind going up the middle, we need to get crosses in the box for them to get on the end of. It has to be 4-4-2 tomorrow. We all know the defensive frailties so I'm not going to go there and concentrate on the offensive threat. I know this all seems like 'pie in the sky' but I have to cling on to this hope to get me along tomorrow. I would llove for this to happen and produce a stirring home victory for a change but more than likely Naysmith will do his usual to frustrate and disappoint the fans.
  20. QoS v Livi

I would never resort to insulting language like that. I think you will find my comments re. Naysmith are DUE to facts and results - and his approach to football - not "regardless" of them. To disrespect Gordon Chisholm in that way after what he led us to is absolutely disgraceful. Dobbie could not have been benched for Europe had Chisholm not taken us to the Cup Final in the first place !
  21. QoS v Livi

    Disgusting and disgraceful comment.
  22. The Queen of the South Thread

If the system is there then I guess we should use it to our potential advantage. However, it seems too easy to resort to this. I thought the point of having a squad was to cover injuries. As I understand it, we have one striker injured - Dobbie- which leaves 4 available if you include Dykes, which our Manager certainly does. That is more than ample numerical cover especially given we only usually play one strker anyway. The game has become ridiculous with the excessive number of subs allowed and various loan systems. I wish the lad well but imagine our Manager will invent some elaborate plan that will detract from any attacking threat he may possess.
  23. Who will be Brechin's first?

Totally agree and I have everything crossed for 28 April.
  24. QOS V League Leaders

100% correct, He has to go .
  25. Queens v Dundee United

Having missed a few games due to various circumstances but probably underpinned by my desire and enthusiasm to attend being continually 'ground down' by this Manager's approach to playing football, I decided to go last night. I thought perhaps he had 'seen the light' given the win at Dumbarton and the return to the starting line-up of Derek Lyle. This led me to muster up a degree of positivity pre-match only for it to be blown away on the journey there as I heard on the radio that Rankin was back in with Lyle dropping to the bench. This team selection quite clearly signalled his intention and usual approach. Of course, he maintains that he does not set up defensively and sets out to win every game but I have to say that not having a striker of Lyle's quality on the pitch and then packing the midfield with journeymen devoid of any creativity greatly diminishes our attacking threat. It just didn't work with Thomson trying to play just behind Dobbie. Thomas was decent and scored a cracker but was completely anonymous 2nd half in particular. Dykes was his usual self - contributes nothing and looks lazy and uninterested - and was hugely to blame for their equalizer. He 'showed' for the throw-in and was promptly challenged and ended up on his backside allowing them to break and get the cross in. It never ceases to amaze me how someone so young, fit looking and athletic is always so easily beaten and out-muscled by any opponent he faces. He seems to have no strength and/or skill to hold on to the ball. Of course he is not totally to blame, our defence is absolutely useless. How can you let a striker play ' keepie uppie' in the middle of the box unchallenged like that ? The likes of Thomson and Aitken or Boyd and Clark would have dealt with that so differently. Brownlie is absolutely useless and needs to go at the end of the season along with several others. Fergusson was decent when he came on - Dykes could learn a lot from him - and Lyle proved again what a good finisher he is. Albeit they were both offside, even the Manager in his post match interview acknowledged Lyle's ability. Just a great pity for everyone that he has not utilised that to its full potential this season. We lack quality on the pitch and in the Management of the team. A major overhaul is required for next season. We are nowhere near good enough for top four and never have been this season. The only thing that will motivate me to attend the remaining games will be the prospect of seeing Derek Lyle in a Queens shirt for the last few times ever. The only positive from last night - and it was great to see - was the sight of Danny on the pitch kicking a ball in the warm-up.
