  1. The converse of that is that a new Manager with different approach and methods may get the best out of the players available. I think MB was being 'savvy' in giving his side of things , passing the blame to players and not himself. At the same time sowing a seed with some supporters that some players are letting the Club down hence leaving a negative vibe even after he is gone. We need the positivity of Jim McIntyre to motivate and breed confidence. That's how you get players onside, so to speak, not by berating them. Management in any industry is multi faceted and not one size fits all which I suspect is Marvin's way.
  2. A little bit unfair on the Club there , I think. I don't think Marvin is the type to be forced to do anything he doesn't wan to. I think he knows how dire the situation is and the consequences and wanted the opportunity to put his side of things. Can you imagine the reaction if there had been no interview ?
  3. If Bartley had not wanted to do that interview he would not have done it - decision would be his not Club Media. Sounds like he wanted to get a lot off his chest.
  4. Just watched Bartley post match. Very reminiscent of Steven Mclean's last one at St. Johnstone. No way back after that.
  5. Wow. Not an unexpected response. I am not offended in the least. You haven't read carefully, let me clarify. You referred to a particular area of the ground as "pathetic" because they do not get out of their seats in response to on field events. I commented that some people MAY have a health condition as a contributory factor and cited my own situation as an example. There could be numerous other reasons but it really doesn't matter - people have the choice whether they get up or not , whether you like it or not ! As stated, I am all for a bit of singing and atmosphere and encouraging youngsters and strongly believe the Terracing is the optimum location for that. If I was going to take offence at anything it would more likely be your last line. It seems you are trying to tell a supporter of 55 years to get lost - shocking !
  6. I don't regard myself as an oversensitive person and don't mind a bit of humour but I think these comments are disrespectful to say the least. To label people who may have health conditions as ' pathetic ' is unacceptable. Would you rather someone had a Heart Attack - just to demonstrate some passion to you ? There is nothing worse than seeing that a game and the sadness it brings. I am not able to go as often as I used to - certainly not in the colder winter weather - but when I do I have to behave differently than I used to between 1968 and 2013. It was an automatic reaction to jump out of one's seat when we scored but I have to stop myself doing that now. I do manage a light handclap but not for too long ! I think you were trying to indicate that the football is for everyone including youngsters but in doing so have turned it on its head to marginalise the ' old and infirm' . I have always said and believed that the Terracing is the best and proper place for singing and creating an atmosphere.
  7. We need to get the process moving asap to have a chance of rescuing the Season. Need to have a new Manager in place for Hamilton (A).
  8. Don't remember many - if any - dissenting voices when Gibson and then Bartley were appointed. Seems you are always looking for ' a stick to beat ' the Board with.
  9. Has Gibson picked up another mysterious knock ? Surely not !
  10. Seems a number of Clubs, on both sides of the border, who see themselves as underperforming and not being where they expected to be at this stage of the season are taking action in the hope of remedying the situation. For some it will work and for others it may not - there are no guarantees. We are in a really difficult position - whether to stick or twist - as it would impact financially I imagine to change Management team but can we afford not to ? We played Alloa (A) at the same point last season and were well and truly thrashed. I suspect many thought Gibson should have gone after that debacle. However, he got a reaction and we stuffed Montrose 4-0 the next week. That was a false dawn though and just delayed the inevitable 2 months later by which time , as it turned out, although there was an improvement we were left with too much to do in too little time to make the play - offs. As far as I am aware , after the Alloa defeat last Saturday, we have less points and are lower in the League than this time last season. Can't speak for the BOD but certainly from a fans point of view I think some are looking on a game to game basis whether MB should be retained or not. I don't think that is a healthy environment in which to operate or to foster a positive culture. We all want to get points on the board but even if we were to beat Kelty - no mean feat given recent record - would/should that be enough to keep MB on given what happened last season after beating Montrose ?
  11. Three homes games and seven points out of nine have changed the mood at McDiarmid Park since Steven MacLean vacated the manager's seat. While it doesn't always come off, St Johnstone have looked noticeably more forward thinking since the club legend departed. Less scared of making a mistake, more roused by the challenge of staying in the division. After this battling win, they move off the bottom for the first time since 2 September. The above taken from BBCSPORTSCOTLAND. As it says , it doesn't always come .off but in reading that I couldn't help think of the parallells to our situation - although thankfully we are not at the bottom of the pile. The phrases " more forward thinking " and " less scared of making a mistake " resonated and - given our dismal Home record - the prospect of "three home games and seven points out of nine" is very appealing to say the least. Like most, I want the current Manager to turn things around and bring the fans some cheer, especially at Home , but it just looks and feels like that is not going to happen. I am sure St.Johnstone fans wanted McLean to succeed but it clearly wasn't working and they plumbed the depths in what turned out to be his last game and looked to be in a desperate situation. Who - and where - is our 'Craig Levein' ?
  12. You are spot on Otis. I too am from that generation and remember both very well. Some say the Rangers QF may have been nearer 19,000. I suspect both games may be remembered more for off field issues than on as we were well beaten in both. Hearts brought over 10,000 and I guess Rangers must have been even more. It was the seventies and the 'hooligans' tended to dress in Bay City Roller style - none of your Designer gear in those days ! Graffiti was also big in those days and I recall HMFC - in maroon paint - being sprayed on what seemed every building in town. It was particularly vivid on the light blue wall of Fleshers - right opposite the Police Station ! Inside the ground, the Rangers game seemed much worse. Bottles and cans were constantly flying across the ' Covered End' and I felt really sorry for the Police Officers there in the middle who bore the brunt. There was a dividing line of about 4 to 5 wide from top to bottom who were really struggling to keep control and what seemed a constant procession of people being removed from the terracing and walked round the track and down the tunnel presumably to a waiting van or two. It's a shame not a lot to talk about from either game. Hearts were comfortable winners if I remember correctly and Rangers absolutely blew us away - they did win the Treble and had a really good team. Having said that, given our form and previous Cup victories I think we did go into that QF with some degree of hope and expectation that we could compete and run them close. Thanks for rekindling great memories.
  13. I don't have evidence either way , just an opinion. I think it was Derek Johnstone I first heard coin the phrase " It's all about opinions" on Super Scoreboard.
  14. Wow! Never realised you had contacts ' on the inside ' . Naughty player though, for telling tales ' out of school '.
  15. What evidence do you have for such a definite response ?
  16. Spot on. You cover the issues that concern me and probably majority of fans. One thing Bartley has stuck to though concerns young Gibson. I couldn't believe after he came in he said that Gibson was playing too much for someone so young and needed protecting. He has certainly made sure he plays much less but not so sure about protecting him. How can a young player be injured so much when he hardly gets a start ?
  17. My mind goes back to 05/06. Everyone wanted Ian Scott to do well but it just wasn't working and he was sacked end of October . He only had half the points Bartley has but had a marginally better Home record and did not lose as many games in succession as Bartley has. When it comes down to it, Home form matters more than away both financially and for fans to be more forgiving. We are in a very difficult situation.
  18. They certainly are not. They have backed the last 2 Managers with funds for recruitment. Sadly, both Managers haven't got it right. You may well have been around in that era, I don't know, I certainly was and can assure you there is no comparison.
  19. We wouldn't need to take advice as we have implemented it successfully ourselves in the past.
  20. I would really like to know what evidence you have to make a statement like that - and if so how did you get it ? You may well be right, of course, but without seeing payslips I don''t know how !
  21. It doesn't. I realised a few hours ago. I think because we are League 1 now, I forgot the play-offs in the League above have an extra layer.. Seemed exciting at the time though, we really should have held on at Falkirk.
