We shouldn't schedule any league or Scottish cup games midweek. There are 40 Saturdays between 27 July and the end of April '25.

Berwick played at least 4 league games midweek before the leaves fell off the trees, and have had several free Saturdays recently. After filling up those free weeks where possible, use midweek for minor cups, replays and postponements.

Cramming in games early leads to injuries and does nothing for cash flow.

The amount of early midweeks is a real bug bear by the end of September we had played 17 league and cup games.

The chap that presented the Andy Forbes trophy was his son of the same name, is that right? I was struggling to hear when he was introduced.

Think I heard it said that he was a goalie and coach in his time, I take it that is the same person mentioned in the Jubilee Athletic article in Saturday’s programme?

Yes that was Andy junior he was a coach with us and Kelty, his son also played for our 20s. He played for quite a few Fife clubs sure it would have been him @Cowden Cowboy can confirm as he wrote the article!

From what I saw in the games against Hearts B, Cowden have the basis of a very decent team.  Haven't seen you against anyone else but if you can find consistency then you'll be top 6 (inc B teams) next season.

Need to improve the home record too much draws.

Hi Cowdie, what a talent you have for spinning all things into a negative. What are we thinking about failing in the Playoffs, will we go bust. Sorry to disappoint, totally focused on the positives of at last makingit  to the SPFL.

You have got me wrong i've no gripe with EK from my reading of Kelhearts post was he was talking about clubs in general and my reply was about clubs in general not EK.

From the people i've met from EK they seem decent guys and I hope you do make it as it would make to top end of the LL more even.

End of the day every single club without doubt would welcome that sort of investment so no point in being the jealous type just is what it is at every level of football

    Well done East Kilbride

All depends if its loans by benefactors who may eventually want it back.

From memory Cowdenbeath had just over 300 (including a few away fans but not many) for the Friday night home match against Hearts on the windiest winter night you could imagine.

I said at the time I would welcome them trying that now and again. A late summer Friday evening with a nice bit of weather could attract a decent crowd.

    It was 303

Cowdenbeath played Hearts B both home and away on a Friday and I for one enjoyed both of them, nice way to end the working week, especially winning both of them. 😉

I didn't mind playing at AP on the Friday gave me the opportunity to watch another game on the Saturday.

At the end of the day the clubs only have to play on a Friday there once a season. The same sometimes happens with the Shire if Falkirk have a home game on a Saturday.

I think the addition of a weight supporting plinth, steps etc would kinda kill the appeal of these. Bound to add a fair bit of cost.

It's not a terrible stand really and things could be made more workable.

    1. provide terracing behind at least one goal,  and possibly at north west side of the ground. That removes the need to provide any standing on the east side.

    2. Build a walkway behind the stand.

    3. provide facilities right round the pitch, especially on north side.

You just need to look at new central park on how to turn a old non-league ground into being SPFL appropriate.

It would be good if they stepped the banking behind the goal maybe would have to leave it without a roof due to people in the houses maybe objecting.

There is a walkway behind the stand where the toilets are could maybe do with another toilet block with the bigger crowds they are getting now.

  9. 2 hours ago, Burnieman said:

Yeah agree with that, although you can already walk behind the "main" stand, that's where the toilets are and accessible from both ends.   Terracing at the north end and down the side to halfway would be enough for Spartans really and as you say, stick in toilets and maybe another pie hut open for bigger away supports.

They have a 2nd pie hut at the side of the stand at the banking end use it when there are big crowds.

That or nearer the pitch, it's set quite far back, meaning unless they're down in the corners, anyone standing against the rail is blocking the view for those at the front. Not ideal for those with limited mobility in particular.

It's not a bad stand or a bad ground, I just think there are better options.

Aye it would have helped being closer to the pitch.

Agree.  These modular stands are great for getting seats into place quickly and reasonably cost effective but a lot of them could be doing with going on a plinth/platform so the front row isn't staring at the pitshside barrier.

Suppose it was alright when it opened and they were in the EOS but now their in the SPFL they should be looking at some thing bettter.

  12. 7 minutes ago, Burnieman said:

Yeah the problem is the barrier is maybe 10 foot outside the footprint of the seats and you need to give people room to stand as well.   I guess they could cordon the whole area off and shove people round to the other stand, although for Spartans games that's normally the away area.

They should have built a stand with more elevation.

I thought Zac was one of the ones who had extended into next season, but clearly not. Can anyone remember who has? Has Robbie agreed for next season?

    Robbie signed for 2 years.

No, it's a total waste of time and probably more about PR in the community - appealing to a group that have no interest in supporting Stranraer anyway.

I think they're largely self funding, but the accounts show about £3000 per year spent on the team.

If it takes even 0.1% of attention away from our actual team it should be scrapped, in my opinion.

Cheers often wondered as you say waste of time if no progression to the first team.

This is my fear. Berwick,  Cowden and East Stirlingshire at least have geography on their side in terms of catchment areas for recruitment, and they've found it hard enough.

Its all hypothetic, but dropping out of the Lowland would mean the end of the Reserve side too. Unless we somehow were allowed into the WOSFL.

Do much players progress into the 1st team

Same old shite, just a different season. Nobody was asking for miracles, just to see a decent effort and an improvement this year. Not much to ask for given the horrendous years we have had to endure and seeing our decline into football obscurity.
While  I fully understand the financial constraints that Cowdenbeath FC have to deal with I would still expect us to be able to produce a team who can at least reach the top 8 in the Lowland League.
I hate having to say this yet again  but we definitely need a new manager and some fresh thinking. Time and again we have appointed managers who just aren’t up to the job. He definitely sounded like a better fit, up and coming, knew lower league football etc but it just isn’t working out.
If most of this squad have been retained for next season, then we are fucked.
The positive noises about promising players and players who are great guys are all well and good but the team on the park are actually garbage.
You can keep giving out the  positive vibes but it just isn’t happening on the pitch.
    Get it sorted.

I would say we have been better than last season 4 points better off with 4 games still to play. We can still finish 8th, your minimum, we are 4 points behind the side in that spot currently and play them on Saturday.

Home form is the problem with 8 draws if we had won even half of them we would have been in a comfortable position.
