  1. Re us being the only Scottish team to beat Man City in a competitive match , this is very commendable.......however we are probably the only Scottish team to have lost to the mighty Bury in a competitive match (Anglo-Scottish Cup I think it was. around 1980?). We were in the Premier Division at the time whereas they were in League Division 4 (or Division 2 as it is now known). That kind of puts things into perspective!
  2. I remember going to Firhill to see us play in October 1975 and the fog was so thick that it was farcical. No way the game should have gone ahead but we won 1-0 and the only way I knew we had scored was the reaction of the players. On the way home the bus driver (this wasn't a supporters bus, just an Eastern Scottish bus from Buchanan Street bus station) took 3 wrong turnings on the way back to Airdrie! Happy days!
  3. It was Pat Mc Cluskey who died last week. Re Tommy Walker, he taught for a time at my old school, Caldervale High in the mid 1970s so presumably as a teacher he would have had a reasonable salary and pension if he remained in the profession. Unexpected events can happen in life however so there could be any number of reasons why he has had to make the decision to sell the medal.
  4. Stainedpants, I preferred the matches at Frockville to those at Bloomfield.
  5. We are not from "weegie world" we are from Lanarkshire (although what constitutes most of what is now Glasgow City Council area was once in Lanarksire). I am most offended to be called a "weegie"!
  6. Though it would have been nice to have got through to the next round, the priority for us has to be to get into the promotion play offs ,if not to actually win the league which would be a bonus. I am putting yesterday's result down to a "bad day at the office" and it will be forgotten in no time at all if we perform well in the league.
  7. Re crowd at Motherwell Cup game at NB in 2007, BBC Sport says crowd was 5924. Crowds exceeding 8000 at NB very rare. Think we got one against Celtic in our 1-0 League Cup victory in the late 90s when Marvin Wilson scored from the spot. Not sure that we have ever had a full house (i.e 10000) not even when we beat Morton in 2004 in our championship winning season.
  8. Nothing against big Nat, I'm sure he tries his hardest but if he had been taken off much earlier - and to be fair to Nat, that is Murray's call ultimately, not his - you wonder if we would have hammered Forfar by even more? Either way, I was delighted with the overall performance and the fact that we managed to come from behind to get a convincing win. Wonder what odds a bookie would have given you at half-time for a 4-1 victory for Airdrie?!!
  9. Football has helped me get through some hard times in my life, especially after my Dad died. Used to go to all the matches home and away with him. He died mid way through our championship winning season in 2003/04 and my Mum died five weeks later. Just into the new year however we went on a great run of form and I went to all the midweek games and Saturday games watching the great talent Wullie Mc Laren at his best. Our great performances culminating in winning the 1st Division championship helped me greatly to cope with my loss and it was particulary sweet beating Greenock Moron (not a spelling error - deliberate) towards the end of the season as my Dad had the stroke from which he died the same day as Moron beat us 6-1 at home earlier in the season. Although I must confess that football doesn't mean as much to me now as it did when my Dad was with me at the matches, I am grateful for Airdrie for helping me through what was an extremely difficult time emotionally.
  10. One of my rare appearances at a match today and I have to say that Hawkshaw was just about the only ray of hope (excluding the keeper) today. Other than those two we were dire and deservedly lost to a team whom we would have hammered not so long ago. Shows how low we have sunk.
