I remember being at an Airdrie game approximately 15 years ago and they were going round with plastic buckets asking fans to contribute to prevent them going bust, a  few weeks later they did.

We will give you the 32 pence back next to time you visit  Airdrie if you want..

I get what you're saying but this is the same St Johnstone who appointed Steven MacLean who had precisely zero management experience at first team level. Same with Robson at Aberdeen, with Naismith at Hearts, Hammell at Motherwell, and that's just the last 2 years. Numerous more guys who have been given jobs with no criteria other than 'played for the club' and some vague 'highly thought of' nonsense due to taking a youth team. Or being the beneficiary of a new manager bounce when standing in for a few games.

If all of the above can get those jobs it's bizarre that someone who has actually got a CV (albeit quite short) with some achievements on it is seen as a risk.

That said, I don't disagree with you that that is how clubs would view it, but it just seems weird to me.

The Premier is just a massive clique, as you say St Johnstone appointed McLean a total disaster , everybody knew it,  same with Motherwell when they appointed Hammell and Ross County the same with that maniac Adams..   They seem so ingrained in just getting the money, I would like to see those chairmen try and make their club competitive on 100k prize money a season, that we had to do for years in League 1.

What a brilliant day Saturday was. I wasn't that excited initially after the draw was made, but on the day itself it was fantastic having what felt like, and ultimately was, a big(ish) cup tie at the stadium. And as others have said, a fully deserved win against an established Premiership side. Nice that that's becoming a bit of a habit! Frizzell was the best player on the park, Telfer and Hancock were outstanding as they have been for months, Fordyce was never troubled by that big dumplin' Kimpioka or Stevie May and shoutout to Watson who ably replaced Megwa* and McMaster who came into the side after a few weeks out and strolled it. When we take a lead and maintain our shape I'm not sure I've ever seen an Airdrie team look so comfortable on and off the ball. St Johnstone never looked like scoring and I'm not sure Raith, Inverness, Morton or Queen's Park, penalty aside, did either. I'm buzzing to play Hearts. We shouldn't get carried away. It's the most difficult tie we could get outside the Old Firm but, they're not infallible and I'd fancy us to give anyone a game at home. More than anything else I'm looking forward to the sense of occasion it will bring to the town and the stadium. Hearts have never played competitively at New Broomfield so should bring a big crowd through. I just hope it's Saturday at 15:00 so we can really optimise the crowd and that sense of occasion. I could tolerate Saturday tea-time but Friday, Saturday mid-day, Sunday or Monday would be shite.

My only worry after Saturday would be I hope Gabby and Gal's knocks aren't too serious. If they are then we'll need to bring in another forward or hope Lyall can play upfront because if we have to rely on O'Connor for any length of time we're goosed.

Class to see Megwa at our game and celebrating with the players at full-time rather than up at Forfar*.

A lot of talk of the Hearts game being on the box,  24k you get for it,   If it is somebody said a Monday night is a possibility also (BBC showed last season on that night). It would highly affect the crowd,   I am hoping a for a 3pm Saturday and get a big crowd in,  24k is worth roughly about 1200 fans,  you would lose more than that off the crowd on a Friday or a Monday..

If we stay in the league quite comfortably, I'd be surprised if he was still here after the summer. Unless he is desperate to carry on playing of course.

Rhys is doing and has done a fantastic job,  I just don't think the bigger clubs would take a risk on someone doing something completely different,  they are too set on their ways of survival and negativity, look at St Johnstone a poor negative side who could easily finish 7th in the top league this season..

Hopefully he is here for a few more years ,  enjoy this time being an Airdrie fan,  look at the next 3 games,  Partick at home, a televised Semi final at Raith and a possibly televised Scottish Cup 5th round tie at home to Hearts,   it sure beats Clyde, Peterhead and Montrose respectively..

Nowhere near, £24k per team. Same for Viaplay.

Prize money for getting knocked out in round 5 is almost £50k though, in comparison to the £20k we will just have got.

Maybe I am getting mixed up with the old sky money...  24k is nothing special if you play on a Friday or Monday night...

It was the game talked about a few pages back with regards to Cardle signing a pre contract. He won a penalty near the start, we had to sub our right back after half an hour because he was getting absolutely rinsed. After the game McIntyre told the Airdrie manager "Glad we won't have to play against him next season!" and that was how the Airdrie gaffer found out we'd signed McDougall and Cardle on pre contracts.

Was a good goal by Bayne to win, the draw for the next round had already been made and it was Aberdeen at home.

😂 Right, so Dunfermline fans have spent hundreds of pounds on Airdrie scarves, to then burn them after the game? Christ.

I remember the bother, I can't say I remember the scarves burning.

Remember back in those days we struggled to get scarves ourselves in the then under stocked club shop,  they must have been acquired by fair means or foul, it was hardly a funeral pyre FFS,  did happen though,  irrelevant now right enough, just things you remember.

  7. Was running late to the game yesterday and decided to pay at the gate, joined the queue and somebody in front shouted,  this is the pie queue pal, halfway to the main gate,  might seem joking now, but I had to have a double take...   Which brings me on nicely to the catering,  why oh why do we only have one stall open for near on 1700 fans,   Back in League 1 when sides brought 50 odd they quite rightly had the pie stall open for them,  why not for our own fans, a one point at half time yesterday one of the queues was doing the eightsom reel..     reading the saints thread they were far from impressed with the catering and service also.

Maybe something for the SLO to bring up..

Can't remember the Dunfermline game either. But I remember the Spartans game, the pitch was completely waterlogged for the whole second half, not sure how the match wasn't abandoned, it was farcical.

I seem to remember it was a midweek game after a typical postponement back then,  we lost 2 - 1 to a looping Graham Bayne header late on,   There was a bit of bother after it in the car park across the road, I seem to remember  some Airdrie scarves being burnt by the busload of Dunfermline fans,   didn't go down too well ....

In any case it’s maybe a bit out the road if the club are trying to grow their fan base. Would imagine some people may not attend as regularly if the stadium isn’t as handy for the motorway and closer to the city, decent transport links and easy to drive to.

Were the plans not for the Colin Weir Training ground to be in Kirkintilloch anyway at the old water works down from the stables pub restaurant.

The choice of highlights for Sportscene was embarrassing.

It was very hard to do, but sportscene made St Johnstone look The better side.,  lol...    And not many excuses given by the pundits,  although McFadden wasn't on it..

Brody Paterson confirmed on loan , meant to be decent 👏🏼👏🏼

Remember Airdrie signed him on loan from Celtic in January window 2 years ago,  very good going forward,   lots of potential seems to have lost his way when down at Hartlepool,  would think he would be a solid signing and he probably still has a chance to play at a higher level,  think he is a Kirkcaldy boy but don't hold that against him.

    Cheers, what was the attendance?

Not having a go but I thought there would have been a bigger home support. Was that about typical home support size?  Airdrie have been going well and must have fancied their chances beforehand.

1672 Airdrie,  our crowds this season are up about 30 percent than recent seasons,  averaging about 1300 home fans in League games, last couple of seasons round about 1k roughly,  on paper it's not great, but on our dark days of 6 or so years ago we were lucky to get 650 home fans..    like yourselves it's a modern 10k stadium and smaller crowds make it look worse,

A few of our fans including myself felt we could get a result today,

  13. So the Saints didn't go marching in then,   all quirks aside ,  both sides have as good as each other in the pre match banter stakes..

1032  St Johnstone fans  today, really impressive support and your team let you down, it's not easy or cheap to follow football teams these days,  hats off..

Good luck for the rest of the season and hopefully relegate Ross Co and that moron Adams,

This is the best Airdrie team I've seen in my lifetime supporting Airdrie. I'd argue that this team are better than the one we had where we finished 5th in the championship in 2005 and that Rhys McCabe is the best Airdrie manager since the 2002 era.

We can all talk about what we want in the draw etc but we completely played a team off the park in a higher division, who's manager previously managed the national team.

What a difference in how everyone was feeling on the 30th December at half time during the Queens Park game to just now!! ♦️♦️♦️

Absolutely agree,  this is the best I can remember the 90s were great but a different type of football,  we are playing it the way it should be played,  frustrating for us old hats at times though..  Young new fans treasure these moments with your old dads etc....

We will all look forward to the highlights tonight,  just keep the head when we get little praise and the big bad plastic pitch is made the reason for super saints defeat..

I know it’s been shelved for now (and almost certainly forever), but I was really hoping that the training ground that Colin Weir was going to be building us would include a pitch with a stand to host the women’s games, as well as youth teams and that.

There is a modern stadium similar to Peter's hill Park doing absolutely nothing in Kirkintilloch, probably just waiting to bite the hand off the highest bidder.

I'm sure the departure of Megwa has accelerated the search but it wouldn't have been so significant if Ballantyne was fit as him and Hancock in the full back positions are more than decent.

Yip, it is likely we could be weaker as it will be difficult to get someone on the same level as Megwa but Cammy & Murray's return to action is absolutely vital also, so lets hope there is no complications with there rehabilitation.

Totally agree, we shouldn't be leaving anything to chance,   with Megwa recalled, I would imagine Fellows would be recalled from his Loan spell at the Rovers to provide cover,  not great but you have to use what you have at your disposal....

Don't think we will be seeing Cammy and Aiken match fit minus complications till about early March...

  17. So what midweek do you think this game will be played,  next midweek saints  are playing, the following week we are in a semi on the Friday,  it looks like the only available slot will be 6 or 7th Feb just before the next round is due..  to be fair that will be the furthest we have been on the Scottish for 20 odd years..

I don't agree with this, but just heard due to a ' big club' coming to town, we are hoping to coax as much money out of our visitors as possible,  probably due to Perth and surrounding areas being one of the most affluent in Scotland..

Parking is apparently being priced as 5 pounds per car,  7 pounds if you rock up in a tractor..  and also 5 pounds if you have a Tory supporting sticker on your car window,(seems fair enough to me)

Once you enter the stadium and you manage to avoid the bird shit stained walls (don't want to damage the tweed remember) why not queue up for an eternity to buy a reasonably priced steak pie at 5 pounds, washed down by a variety of hot drinks(bring your own salt though). After that please take to you preheated seat and enjoy the game...

Forgot to add,  the seats aren't actually preheated it's just the locals who will clean the seat with their ass , waiting on the laird's arriving,  hopefully Finbarr and Conaghan will get the beasts fed early enough to throw us a couple of shillings...
