Aye, defo this.  A real shame and genuinely one of my favourite players to wear the diamond.  An enigma sometimes, missing open goals from a yard, but then turning in goals like against Bohemians coming in from the wing, Overhead kick against Clyde or his worldie against Kelty.  He's given us some incredible moments, at League 1 level mind you, but he done it in a diamond.  He's still only 29/30 so still plenty time to become adored by another set of fans.  I can see him ending up at a decent paying EK (if they get into L2), he can carry on his extra part time stuff, decent wage, 15 mins from Giffnock (I think that's round about where he stays??).  Whatever he does, he'll go with nothing but best wishes from me anyway.

Calum Gallagher exactly as you say,  my favourite goal of his, was his last minute headed winner at Falkirk and his celebration after it,  a frustrating player most are to be fair,   looking at his body language the last few weeks and even his muted celebration at winning the cup,  suggests to me he has something else lined up

It was literally the definition of an utter shitebags tackle.

I have kept my council on this since the game, news there in person and it looked a 'good' yellow bordering on a red at the time,  watching it back it was a shocker we don't need to see someone carted off just to justify it,  it should have been a red, McMaster got away with it,  as the game was live on TV (are us and Ayr big time) everything gets scrutinized,  that's their job,  do not have a problem with Stewart, Brown or any of the TV saps...

Are Airdrie fans getting a little precious,  no one likes us we don't care,  and I couldn't give a flying f*** what others think about us,

I am far more concerned about how easy a limited Ayr team have managed to take 12 points off us this season,  as we get ready to go to another of  our 'bogey' grounds as we continue our recent quest for the promotion playoffs..

Megwa certainly had his poorest game to date in an Airdrie shirt to date but not sure I'd be dropping him with Ballantyne's fitness still a bit off although I'm a huge fan. Watson has been excellent recently at CB but always has an error in him no matter what position he plays.

Lyall is beginning to frustrate the life out of me, talented yes, but other than his performance against Arbroath he's not doing nearly enough. Absolutely anonymous in the 1st half last night and can't keep dipping in and out of games. With Telfer not having his performance either last night, no one else stepped up though.

Still early days for Hemfrey but clearly not as comfortable as Rae on the ball and I'm really concerned about him on cross balls, and not just the 2nd goal last night. I'm still prepared to put it down to lack of game time but I'm a tad worried.

An absolute certainty to me that McGill or McGregor will play against Arbroath on Tuesday, maybe even both in which all of sudden is our biggest game of the season.

On to today's matches and I will be keeping a big eye on Firhill. An Inverness win would tighten the league even more and heap pressure on everyone up to us especially as they have Arbroath at home the following week.

Hard to disagree with anything the league is still crazy and a bad week could have us in the mire,      regarding the keeper I thought we was commited and dealt with everything pretty well,  I actually thought it was a great cross and header for the second goal, should he have stayed on his line, possibly....   I don't know about Rae situation but I would be surprised is he is not back on the next 2 or 3 weeks,  although season will be about done by then.

Not really at it tonight, injuries catching up with us and thought we really felt Rae being absent tonight, we dont play it out from the back nearly as effectively without him in goals. Not panicking about league position as I think we'll be fine but would be good to get a win on Tuesday keep a bit between us and Inverness, especially if they dont win tomorow.

Don't know if you were at the game or not,  but I felt at the game, Hemfreywas decent enough with a few decent saves don't think Rae would have done anything different, if you let teams fire crosses in all game , there will only be one winner...

Congratulations on a hard fought and ultimately deserved win. A really entertaing game, I dont think the second half got close to the tempo and quality from both teams in the first half and as time passed you always thought a setpiece or penalty would end up deciding it, stonewaller given by the ref, not sure why the defender needed to do it given O'Connor was running away from goal.

Congratulations on keeping the trophy in Scotland too, the spin some detractors might have put on it if it had gone to Wales could have been a huge annoyance.

McCabe has that team massively overachieving for the sum of its parts and he must be a huge target to a top flight team for his next move.

And if you could all keep buying the team celebrations drinks between now and Friday night, that'd be great as well. Cheers.

First half as you say very entertaining, TNS seemed to catch us for pace early on,  no idea how Watson's challenge that led to a goal was not a free kick and a booking, our right side with Ballantyne literally just back from injury and young Gallagher who was playing out of position due to injuries etc,   You could tell TNS were a front foot team,  they had no centre halfs or organisation,  Todorov had them all roads first half with McStravick in behind,  first time we have really played that way,   Second half was %football and over the 90minutes I thought we shaded it,

McCabe looks the next big thing or the next Ian Murray who was fast tracked after success at Dumbarton,  Rhys has to be careful IMO,   a bigger budgeted side in the championship is probably his natural progression,

Look at Goodwin at Dundee United a limited experienced manager who has put together a bigger bunch of mercenaries since the Expendables,   Could Rhys sort that mess out with the attitudes and egos on show there,  personally I don't think so...

He is on an upward trajectory, he will move soon enough I think Airdrie might or I hope have him again next season..

  6.

There is a souvenir 68 page glossy programme on sale for the Cup final..

This is available through a website of Ignition Sports media,  cost is £5 plus £3 postage.

No doubt will be on sale at the game as well,  We dont get to many finals, one to get pulled out the drawer in 25 years..

I'd probably agree with that lineup except I can see Donnell getting a chance in the starting 11.

If he's starting McMaster, I can't see him starting Gav Gal at the same time.

Would like to see more of Donnell, he look decent coming on against Raith in the Semi.

Agree he looks quietly effective but painfully slow,    Centre mid will be crucial, McCabe ideally plays there only if Cammy is fit,   McCabe drops to centre back and midfield becomes a bigger issue,  young players like McMaster and G Gallagher will need to step up,  I think they can, not too creative though.

Match officials looked at the artificial surface at the Tony Macaroni Arena at 9.30am, with an early decision taken to call off the game due to a frozen pitch.“

Games in the top flight with grass pitches and undersoil heating were played that day.

Do we still call pitches grass when the surface is 60,% caked sand and dirt

Same as Saturday a feel Liam in behind toddy which worked well

McCabe will replace Lyall, Ballantyne got to replace Megwa

can still see Lewis maybe atleast making the bench hopefully

It looks like we will have limited options for Saturday, personally don't Ballantyne will make, which makes for a positional change or two..

    Shaping up something like..

    Hemfrey

    Watson RB

    Hancock LB

    McCabe CB

    Fordyce CB

    McMaster DM

    Telfer RM

    Frizzell LM

    G Gallagher CM

    McStravick F

    Todorov F

Cannot see many other options unless Lewis and Gabby can get patched up..

  10. Looking forward to it,  I think this will be a decent final,  TNS looked good in the semi and stifled a decent Falkirk side and have a long unbeaten run to defend,  Declan McManus plays for them,  a striker that most clubs would love to have, and he isn't a regular starter for them..

Like all games the first goal will be crucial, they look very well organised..

Ticket sales are slow, expect a bit of a rush closer to the game though,.

One of the things we will have to control is the pressure of expectation,    a lot of our fans expect us to turn up, sword them and applaud like demented sea lions as Rhys parades the Spfl Trust Trophy around the Falkirk stadium on the back of a white charger.....

PS.  Airdrie and finals with teams that play in green and white hoops don't normally end too well..

  11. The great debate. Grass or plastic,   we live in a constantly moving world with hi tech being the norm throughout every part of society,  but we are still happy to pay (overpay let's be honest) to watch Football on a 'grass pitch' with 40% grass on it the majority of the season, the rest hard caked mud...   Or you can play on the latest gauge of an artificial surface, the same surface players mostly train on during the week,

But I am not a member of the elite SPL where not for the first time Dundee have been the victim of an 'act of god' and has to cancel a televised game due to an unplayable surface. Dundee eh must have it's own micro climate,    haud on,  there is another pitch 100m away at Tannadice that's like a bowling green, (well it was 2 weeks ago) with a team in a lower league who even if they win their league will not even earn a fifth of the prize money Dundee will earn finishing 6 or 7th in the good old SPL..

We can moan about the 400k Doncaster earns etc, there are clubs throughout the pyramid who are putting our top clubs to shame with the state of their grass pitches,

With the generous prize money (compared to the rest of the leagues) surely the league can insist that if they want a no plastic rule in the SPL , then every club must have an amount of money put aside every season for pitch upkeep, relaid start of season or through the season as required,  Aesthetics.are important in football, better players might want to come, better TV deals could be sought,   have we really tried anything different apart from moan about everything,  the good old days of Scottish Football weren't that great if you remember....

Back to the main point if you want Grass make sure it's on the pitch, or it not really a grass pitch...

    OR.

As a lot of fans think when Livi and their 'dreaded pitch' go,  and Dundee United and their very decent facilities come up,  the drawbridge will get pulled up , with a 2 fingered salute to the rest of Scottish Football......

Didn't really have a great deal to do.  Could have done nothing about the first goal.  Would need to see the second again but it seemed like there was some uncertainty about who was dealing with a ball into the back post with the result that nobody did, which may be a consequence of the keeper and defence not knowing each other yet.  I don't recall much else he was called on for that wasn't pretty routine stuff.

To be fair, to the keeper, he saved us just before the equaliser when one of the many misplaced first half passes by Fordyce was intercepted , crucial save that could have put us 2 down,

As you say Lyall was excellent throughout closely followed by Telfer,  McMaster continues to disappoint, when under pressure he tends to go into his shell and gets very negative and panicky and doesn't offer an out ball ,   when we are up comfortably in games.he.is a different player ,    Rhys rates him highly though...

A very good important 3 points,  last week's point in Inverness looks massive all of a sudden..

  13. To be fair you gave us a s much as we could handle for 35 minutes,  up front and wide players is decent enough and have our defenders are really tough game throughout,  but your defence and midfield are painfully slow,  Little looks done and TOB who everybody admires was poor again..  Bird up top looks a decent player..

ICT look a club with a lot of issues going on,  surely must have an outside chance for 9th

That’s the Dundee United game moved to the Friday night. Think we all saw that coming as it was the obvious candidate out of our remaining fixtures. Bit frustrating as they could have brought a bumper crowd with them if they’re still going for the title at that point.

    IMG_4107.png

So that's our last 2 games of the season on Friday nights,  as you say the United game could and probably still will be a decent money spinner especially if United have the chance to win the league that night,  it's hard to be to critical as all these games help the club gain publicity, which was basically zero in the barren years of League 1.

If we can't get someone in on loan you would think there must be someone around the youth set up that could do a job, what's the script with Gow's accademy type thing, not heard anything about it for ages? Presumably someone is in goals for the reserve team who, despite the results. could play?

There is a lad called Cade Melrose who is the reserve keeper, he has been on the bench a few times this season, don't know anything about the lad,  The reserve team have been getting hammered most weeks, so probably not a fair assessment in a struggling team,  Pruntys boy Liam is the under 18s keeper...

Would still think we would need a loanee to get us by if possible.

    I’m not so sure.

We’ve not had it this good for a very long time. Next year Rhys and Dycey will be a year older (very obvious I know) but at some point we won’t get away with having 2 key players also being the management team. That will hit the playing budget.

A lot of bigger teams are having issues this year. Thistle with a need to rebuild last summer, Pars spending on infrastructure and then suffering injuries, Raith trusting Ian Murray to out attacker other teams 🤪

I agree finishing 8th or above is a brilliant achievement.

IF we somehow get 3rd or 4th, it might be a one off and so I wouldn’t be seeing it as a free hit but more as a once in a generation opportunity to sneak a promotion into the top tier.

The last accounts I saw (to end of June 2022) had us showing about £360K of debt and the club technically insolvent and so dependent on money from PH to keep us going.

We’ve had a really good run since then, play offs, big increases in prize money through league position and cups this year, Devenney to CP etc. but if we could sneak even one season in the top league would be massive financially - debt free and better placed to compete even if we come straight back down.

In the past Livi and Accies have done it, so I’d be hoping we could hit form at the perfect time and a bit gutted if the chance passed us by.

Next season could be tricky if we lose the loanees and some of our top performers (Hancock, Telfer, Frizz etc.). I’ve thought that every year since the takeover and it hasn’t happened so hopefully if we are in the Championship again next year we can continue to build.

Wild to at this stage that League 1 and the Premiership are probably equally likely outcomes! 80% chance it will be the Championship I reckon!

I am not a financial expert (just ask her indoors).   We are having a decent season financially,  just getting promotion and finishing 8th in the championship we will get double our prize money from last season, that with 100k prize money from Scottish Cup not including gate money from saints and hearts games,  a decent run into knockout stages of League Cup, and a possible 40k to come if we win the Trust Trophy,  I don't think we can maximise much more out of the playing staff, they have exceeded expectations this season,n and let's not forget a 40 percent increase in home crowds alongside increased admission prices,

Sounds good doesn't it,  it is still pretty perilous,  for us to increase all players wages by 100 pounds a week, say from 500 to 600 (no idea our wages just an example) that would mean a playing budget increase of roughly 250k per annum .....   For all the hopefully many tears to come of Championship football it looks like our crowds and relevant income will always be at the lower end of the league,  which as Colin says this could be as good as it gets for a club our size....

For all his previous faults, PH is at the controls and since he has taken over, he has done a pretty damned good job..

I've never heard of this happening.

    It must be very rare.

With modern surgery that operation seemed to be very successful.

Does anyone know of this happening before and the sportsperson coming back again?

Young lad with a real talent, I wish him all the best.

It must be incredibly difficult mentally.

You get so close to the light at the end of the proverbial and then bam.

    Awful 😔

Lewis Vaughan at Raith has had 3 or 4  ACL ops in recent years,  don't know if same knee etc..   but was before and still is a quality player at championship levels....    Good luck to the lad,  saw him a few times in a poor Peterhead side and always had a touch of class about him..

  18. 1 hour ago, Kenny_m said:

Is 43 points enough to finish 8th?

    I think so, just!

Yeh I would think 43 could get 8th,  the league is still their to be won not for us sadly,  that's my next point if DU or Raith want to lift that trophy and get promoted, they have to win football matches,  if they could go on a run it lessens the points available to the bottom sides, and with everybody else cutting each others throat,  40 like it normally is could be the safe zone...  People always said how good and close this league was and is,  it is in a different world to League 1 which after Falkirk leave will be a total barren wasteland.....

  19. 2 hours ago, Ferguson said:

Read it once more and try again.

I said I'm all for players leaving a bit on each other, and at no point claimed we're not overly physical. I pointed out your 2 completely made up incidents, which you've conveniently ignored to argue a point I've never disputed.

I will rephrase it,  you are quite happy for Morton players to be over physical (your words). But get a tad upset if opponents get over physical with Morton players..

Is that fair enough comment......  Where's Oakley off to next season ( recovery permitting)

  20. 6 minutes ago, Ferguson said:

Ah yes, the cynical challenge on Lewis McGregor (he twisted his knee trying to turn) and the 'clip' on Oakley (he was knee'd in the back with no intent to win the ball).

All for physicality and players leaving a bit on each other, kneeing someone in the back knowing you're never winning the ball is just cowardly, as was his horrendous foul on Crawford in the first 10 minutes.

Ah yes, your players do seem to like to leave a bit on opposition players.

82 league bookings so far this season,  the highest number by any team in Scottish Football so far...surely that is indefensible....
