Frustrating night.  Have to say this total football that Mckabe is support to bring is a myth. All they did all night was the keeper punted the ball up to the strikers and then look for 2nd balls.

How dare we adapt and change stuff after two league defeats on the bounce.

    How. Very. Dare. We.

Uncharacteristic defensive clusterfucks. Presented three goals to Ayr with a bow on them and at the weekend messed about with the defence and it looked like no one knew what they were meant to be doing - by the time we did, too late and two down. We’re honking away from home, struggle to score, struggle when we go behind, so really expecting absolutely nothing from this. Apart from that - all good 👍🏻

Ignore me. You got the other Airdrie. Hard luck lads.

1109 on matchday and no thread. The apathy is palpable...

Feels like another game United should win but will struggle. Airdrie will probably score first then it's just a case if we can pull off another comeback. I don't think Raith will win so we should be looking to increase the gap at the top.

Airdrie have lost last two, I see. Form dip? Injuries? Bad luck? What's the script Diamonds?

Nothing more that a yellow for me here although it’s a terrible attempt to header the ball

Looked like that to me at the time but wanted to wait and see it back before commenting as Morton fans were closer. It did seem an overreaction - accused of a deliberate elbow to a premeditated attempt to injure. Was waiting for him to be accused of snipering him from the top of the cowshed next….

On balance - looks like the three big calls, he got right. Can’t tell the offside so not gonna argue it. More concerned with our defending.

For me when a team gets in a rut the most important thing is to get back to the basics of what you do well and work from there. Don’t overcomplicate things. Questionable whether or not we can call this a rut yet but it’s three losses in a row (including Hearts game in the cup) and while I generally like to remain positive it is most likely going to become four losses on Tuesday night when we go away to the league leaders.

Three of our best players are full backs, that leaves two options: leave one on the bench or play one out of position. You could argue that a back 5 means playing all three out of position, and it’s also a change away from the system we’ve been most successful with. I think we’ve either got to have Hancock partner Fordyce at centre back in a 4, or potentially Megwa although he’s not the tallest, or push one of them into midfield. I was surprised to see McGregor dropped yesterday as I think he’s been doing well but we’re now left with very few options out wide with him picking up an injury. I think Gallagher deserves a run in the team over Toddy as well.

    Rae

    Megwa Fordyce Hancock Ballantyne

    Telfer McCabe Frizzell

    McGill Gallagher Lyall

I think something like that could work. Not entirely keen on limiting Hancock since he’s been so effective down the wing but Fordyce needs a centre back partner and he might be the player best-suited to that. Could try Megwa at centre back but I’ve no idea how that would go. McCabe could drop back to let Ballantyne come inside and Hancock overlap in theory, but that might be overcomplicating things (especially considering since I’m trying to emphasise not doing that and instead getting the basics right). I thought Lyall looked good taking a man on when he came off the bench against Ayr so a wide role could work, but could just as easily drop him into a midfield diamond and play a front two to maintain the shape we’d been using recently.

We do also still have Watson. Yes a mistake against Ayr but that was also in an odd pairing with McCabe.

Obviously would like to see it back again but from where I was at the front of the Cowshed the Taylor Sinclair challenge in first half was a yellow for me. If someone wants to argue that due to things like excessive force, recklessness or endangering an opponent makes it warrant a red card then I won't really argue however for me it was just a bad challenge between a taller centreback and a midget midfielder going for a header and Taylor Sinclair was late and came right through Crawford.

That’s how I saw from my view across the park. Looked a bad 50/50 but accepted some fans were closer and wanted to see it back. Appreciate they may decide not to show it though, and glad your player recovered. Draw at the line at suggestion further up that it was premeditated. That’s just taking it too far.

I think so yeah, though not sure if that’s a specified rule or just what is generally allowed. Was wondering yesterday actually about if Murray Johnston would be allowed to join us on an emergency loan the next time Rae is unavailable even though we already have three Hibs loanees. As you say, it can get a bit confusing.

Unpopular opinion maybe but would cancelling Aiken’s loan due this injury and look to bring someone else in not be better now. Very little sign of him coming back. Not that we give much in the way of updates though.

We have signed Lyall & Donnell and although early days, both have still to impress.

The balance isn’t right - so many midfielders (young and experienced) not contributing enough in the way of goals or even a goal threat - and we bring in even more. We needed strengthening up front and probably another centre half to help Dycey out/cover. No idea why we asked ATS to step in yesterday in a game like that after we’ve not seen him for months (?) - can’t remember last time he played.

The whole quitongo thing frustrates me. The brother made an allegation. Everyone around at the time said they didn’t hear anything. No one was ever charged. Nothing ever came of it. So you can understand why airdrie fans would be frustrated by it all. The two of them are well known to be arseholes. Dealing gear etc.

I don’t know why some Airdrie fans let him live rent free in their heads. Ignore him, move on. The judgement was enough for me. Every single claim thrown out.

Yeah I was the same, could find the league cup and Scottish cup trials as well as last year's overall prize money but nothing for the challenge cup.

Absolutely beyond me that we’ve set up a competition which could result in £50,000 prize money (and the rest from earlier rounds) being diverted away from the Scottish game. Need to bin this format.

Looking at previous seasons in this division you need about 40 points to stay up in 8th place (maybe even a few more in a more tightly contested division), so that's 10 points every 9 games. 6 from 4 games isn't bad, but surely we have to be looking at Saturday as a key fixture for picking up some of those points.

Absolutely - it’s the points against the teams you’d likely expect to be in the bottom half that will decide staying in this league. As many at home as you can and would be happy with a point up at arbroath. Best to take it just one game at a time as it’s going to be an up down season ahead.

Embarrassing the abuse Hancock took in the first half from certain members of our support.  Putting the game into context, totally out of order.

I didn’t hear any of this where I was sitting. But seems a bit shite considering we were trying a new formation and giving a lot of players minutes. Didn’t quite play out like our games normally do but he was good against Dundee Utd once he settled into the match and I think that’s a better benchmark - and that’s with zero disrespect to Stirling Uni. I said to a few people beforehand that they would be no walkover and they weren’t. People maybe thought we’d steamroller them and took that out on certain players when it didn’t happen.

A criticism of mine has been that we try and play passes when they are just not on.

The second goal yesterday was the best example of that. Keeper is on the half way line with 9 Airdrie players in the DU box and he decides to play a tight pass on the half way line whilst being pressured by 2x DU attackers.

I’m all for neat football but the truth is there are times when it’s 100% on and times when it’s 100% not and McCabe needs to convey that to the team. Rae should have whacked that back into the mixing pot yesterday in an attempt to salvage something from the game.

I get that it’s all about being brave (Rae certainly was) but if you’re doing it just for the sake of doing it then it’s ineffective.

As DU fans have pointed out, we play our best passing stuff when going forward. If dominating games is having the ball go between Fordyce and ATS for 10 minutes  a game then I must be miles behind.

There are times we absolutely overdo it, or do it at completely the wrong time.  Should have just launched it back up. There was nothing to achieve by trying to pass it out at that time. Sometimes feels like we’re just running the clock down on ourselves. Similar to Ross County at 3-2 in extra time.
