Having had a flick through that thread reminds me why it don't go on there. Loads of folk conflating the training pitches with the academy which isn't helpful. The pitches should save money in the long run, unless they train at EEP then there are costs and time implications, once we have our own place we can train 24/7 365 if we do wanted, I would hope that would help players in recovery and the help develop younger players with more time on the training pitch. In terms of the academy, we have pretty much always had one, I don't think the FEFA model worked particularly well because most of the other clubs couldn't fund it. Obviously for pro youth the old firm Hearts, Hibs and Dundee United will probably be our main competition and will take the best youth prospects unless they have a tie to the club or can't commit to traveling outwith the west Fife area. I think the academy has been successful enough in the past for bringing through players that can play a part in our squad, it hasn't been so successful in making sellable assets which obviously needs work. Matty Todd probably the only significant asset currently in the squad from out academy. Whilst McCann may have some interest I don't think anyone is paying £100k+ for him currently. However if you have aspirations of top flight football then you have to have an academy to get the solidarity payments, so once there it would cost you £250k not to have an academy, and I get we aren't there nor are likely to be there next season and probably not for a while yet. But the investors clearly want to get to the top flight and if they want to pay for an academy and training site then I don't think it would be wise to dissuade them from it because hopefully long after they have gone both should still be working well.

You would have to have a pretty inept contractor to leave water in an undersoil heating system before concreting over the top of it. It is possible to have weather related postponements on an AstroTurf pitch but there are less of them than a grass pitch.

I think it points more generally to how poorly the SPFL and SFA run Scottish football. The SPFL would say they are run by the clubs which is technically correct but their is no obligation for the clubs nor the SPFL to involve fans in any decision making. The SFA don't even have the clubs arguement to make and yet have no obvious fan engagement. We are a quarter into the year and yet Supporters Direct Scotland still have "Happy New Year" as their lead article which doesn't feel very relevant. Yes we all make it difficult and the fans rarely unite but there is no one drawing it together to even attempt to have a unified voice. Aside from the fans, Airdrieonians and Ayr hold the Championship rep spots at the SPFL so any moves from those clubs would obviously carry more weight.

That's the problem though, many artificial pitches are down far far too long. Queen of the south and Falkirk both had pitches down beyond their expected life span, well beyond in Queens case. Would imagine Raiths would be replaced this close season or next? I think teams drag the arse out of it and that's the problem, also what do folk do with their old pitches would be good if they were donated to local uses that could use them but I suspect they end up in landfill.

Would be quite funny if Raith won the league and then couldn't go up.

Until the SFA improve the customer experience of their shit, and unnecessary, intervention then of course all those involved will be criticised. No wonder people are critical of the decisions made when most weeks the vast majority of people watching the games will be watching live with no replays nor explanation from the math officials. What kind of idiots run our game when they rolled this out and thought that the people watching the game live don't need to have any idea what is happening nor what is being looked at. The fact you can't hear the referee discuss what law is being applied nor see the issue so such an easy fix and yet seems beyond the clowns paid significant amounts of cash to run our national game is beyond me. Until we can get an AI review referee that can make a near instant decision to assist the on field officials then it should be shelved.

Can't see Brown would have been tempted by Arbroath. It was clear as day when Campbell went the squad was a mess with limited time and presumably money to sort it out I think it would have been a stupid decision for him to come to you guys so early in his career. If you go down I don't think Jimmy Mac is too bad an option to get you back up. Obviously the golden manager of that league is Allan Johnstone either way if you go down next year should be a open field for promotion.

The match day programme for last nights game had it already listed as a 2-0 victory with McCann and Holmes double. The win was clearly a stick on, there was no need to doubt it.

Away from all the excitement at EEP tonight Jake Sutherland and Ewan McLeod have gone out on loan to Crossgates, reasonable move for them to get exposure to senior football.

Seen some truly awful defending this year with our perma-crocked back line but United tonight looked ever worse than we did. No idea how much Gallagher is on but it's far far too much. Same with Watt and Moult, hilariously bad the pair of them. As poor as United were Jak, Kane, Todd, Edwards and Walcott were so so good. Makes a big difference to have a squad to pick from but McPake changing it to a back 5 was a massive mistake and totally gave up our midfield dominance. Allan looked good but him and Chalmers in the middle are a complete liability. Said last week that United should have punted Goodwin ages ago. Presumably he goes tomorrow to get someone who knows what they are doing to get them over the line.
