  1. Nairn St Ninian's Women 3-3 Ross County Women. The Showfield, att 40. A cracker of a finish. St Ninian's had taken the lead about an hour into the game through a magnificent mishit, a shot from 25 yards out that came off the foot like a pitching wedge and chipped the keeper. Think Phillipe Albert against Man Utd, if he'd actually meant to blast it. County stormed back and had a 3-1 lead as the game went into injury time, but the home side kept upping their intensity and battled their way to a deserved draw with a couple of very late goals. Nairn St Ninian's are one of the very few clubs in Scotland whose men's and women's teams share a grass pitch. It's a very basic ground right beside the A96, and a lovely place to spend a couple of hours on a sunny Sunday afternoon in spring.
  2. Workers who face the public do get spat on from time to time - not office workers, you've brought that it to soften the blow, I'm talking about police, healthcare, transport workers, hospitality staff. I would definitely equate that with a footballer and would expect them to show some restraint and not lash out. If they did retaliate I'd expect them to be seriously disciplined. I don't think the fan is more at fault, Scullion lost the right to claim that when he spat back. But FWIW I think the fan should be banned indefinitely.
  3. As the league table shows you have an even worse team; you obviously don't have better fans; and you have no ground at all so are playing on a plastic pitch in front of 6,000 empty plastic seats in a two-sided stadium miles from your home community - wherever that is - looking onto the loading docks of two supermarkets. Are you really comfortable throwing stones in that glass house?
  4. But he *is* a footballer. And if someone spat at me during the course of my work I definitely wouldn't react in kind. If I did I would expect to be fired for gross misconduct. Sadly people who face the public like police, train conductors etc get spat at often enough that spit kits are a thing. They don't get to overreact.
  5. Every time an Irish player boasts about how humble they are I think of this. https://youtu.be/KzUKcXxbU4U?si=Jdt4sjf28N5iJzHx
  6. Roy Laidlaw's son and Greeg's cousin. Hurricanes are top of the table with 4 wins from 4 and beat Crusaders in their last game. Definitely one to watch.
  7. I'm not talking about mitigation, I'm talking about step three in the decision process - what was the degree of danger. https://passport.world.rugby/media/j5senlan/2303-update-head_contact_process_en.pdf Edit - and that's what the review just decided.
  8. I don't think it does. It needs a high degree of danger for red and I don't think there's enough force in the contact for that. https://passport.world.rugby/media/j5senlan/2303-update-head_contact_process_en.pdf
  9. I don't think there's enough force or degree of danger for red. Makes no difference though, he's gone until this is over.
  10. There's a lot that could be said here, but bottom line for me is that since Nigel Owens retired the standard of refereeing has collapsed. Owens always said the hardest bit about refereeing, the key to it, is knowing when not to blow the whistle. Wayne Barnes is the last referee above the level of acceptable. They're a self-perpetuating shower of weirdos. Refereeing at club rugby level is much better and there's a remarkable disconnect between them. To take one example, at club level they don't stand for that elongated ruck nonsense you see constantly at pro level.
  11. That line out penalty is a spectacularly terrible call. I can't even imagine what he thinks he saw.
  12. Random Matches You Went To But Were Moved To A 3G Cage Half An Hour Away After You Last Checked. Bonar Bridge v Thurso. Or not. Arrived to find that, a couple of hours earlier, the game had been moved to Dalmore Park in Alness. I've been there before and have no interest in watching yet another game at a school's 3G pitch for the sake of it, my back-up plan of Clach A at Evanton was off too, so I went with the missus for a walk at Dornoch instead. Apparently Thurso won 4-3. This was Bonar Bridge's last home game of the season so I'll need to wait until next season to see a game here. Looking at the pitch it's hard to believe it ever dries out. And Dornoch is a great place.
  13. No. We never play two good halves. We're going to be shite in this one and get hammered. It's how it's been for years.
  14. So much this, and Ireland have obviously spent a lot of time working out how far you can push referees. If they'd got anyone other than Wayne Barnes in the World Cup knock-out rounds they'd probably have won it, but he was the one ref immune to their charms.
  15. It is by far the best live football on cooncil telly in the UK. And smart to have the same slot every week, you don't even have to check fixtures.
  16. They've done the same with the women's competition, with the 5 tournament's after this year's being hosted by Morocco. I don't think they've said what time of year they're holding either the men's or the women's. Teenagers playing an international sporting event in summer in the desert seems questionable.
  17. The site is awful. Constantly get this - shows availability, but no matter what number of tickets you choose it says they're not available.
  18. Only Cat 1 and Cat 3 restricted view, but whatever number of tickets you order for those Cat 3s it says they're not available.
  19. Keep trying. It just worked for me. Only category where I could get seats together was Cat 1.
  20. Yes. Barca's cap is €200 million, vastly lower than Real Madrid's. They're currently at about €400 million, meaning they can only sign players if they offload an existing player, and they can only pay the incoming player 25% of the what the outgoing player was on.
  21. They easily meet the cover requirements for entry level though, which is fine for the Scottish Cup and as far as the Lowland League, between the 3 stands there's definitely more than 100 covered spaces. But it would be very expensive to meet the other criteria. A bit mad that Women's Champions League games have been played there.
  22. Stranraer SOS 1-3 Queen of the South (reserves), Potts Cup semi-final, Stuart Binnie Arena, att. 140 (ish). This 'completes' the South of Scotland League grounds for me for the third time, having completed them a few years ago at Abbey Vale, then again last season when Lochar Thislte moved to their new, proper home, and again because Stranraer SOS are settled here at the Academy. The facility, with a very good 3G surface and a small running track outside the viewing area, is named after an apparently much-loved PE teacher who recently passed away. QotS started much the better team, far more technical ability and pace, and when they went 2-0 up in less than 10 minutes it looked like a battering might be about to unfold. But Stranraer dug in and battled, and found success in balls into the channels for their physical and capable number 9 to hold up and chase. He got one back for them before half-time and the second half was more competitive, but the game was done when the visitors got a third and a Stranraer player picked up a second booking. Very enjoyable stuff for a Tuesday night.
  23. It's not licensed because of the distance between the changing rooms and the pitch, and no separation between players and spectators. There might be other issues like toilets for spectators. Plenty of licensed grounds have no seats at all, like Bo'ness. For Entry level you just need 100 covered spaces. They've changed the rules for Bronze and they'll now need at least 500 covered spaces, including at least 100 seats, but that only affects SPFL clubs.
  24. Are you asking if he wants every amateur league in the country in the pyramid? I think it's reasonable to draw lines at various levels of the pyramid, in different places in different parts of the country to reflect the populations and football traditions, and say above this you need to meet certain ground and club criteria. It's reasonable to draw a line that clubs won't get relegated below because it would drop them into semi-organised, social football. What's not reasonable is telling clubs that meet the criteria that their part of the pyramid is full up and they need to wait until an existing member club dies.
