  1. Aye, Allan Boath, a Dundee lad (IIRC had relatives in Forfar too) played for us ‘77/78 then emigrated to NZ and became an international for his adopted homeland. I think he played against Scotland in the ‘82 finals.
  2. Already mentioned in the first post on this subject, keep up.
  3. Simon Vella was a Maltese international when he joined us but I can’t remember if he got a call up during his time with us. I did wonder if Marvellous Marvin did but his international career ended long before he was a Loon.
  4. Don’t get excited, it’s a soulless place, the original Bayview was a cracking wee ground. I remember last season being there and entry is cashless but the pie shop is cash only
  5. Yeah the standard is probably a low as I’ve seen in over 40 years following the Loons. Today was the worst yet, Spartans players rolling about screaming, two absolute stonewall penalties not given, he was conned by them from beginning to end.
  6. I’ve just watched the highlights, maybe should just call them lights , and I didn’t have a decent view of the penalty incident at the time but trusted the ref got it correct despite the protests from our players. Never a penalty in a month of Sundays. Unfortunately the highlights don’t cover Robson’s first yellow, his second was harsh but not ridiculous. The Bonnyrigg second goal, again the highlights don’t show it clear enough for me to have a proper moan about it though I was certain watching it live that it was offside, not by much but that doesn’t matter. I can be the grumpy old man that I am and complain that neither Rose goal should have happened but did due to poor officiating, which is technically true, but the bottom line is the better team on the day won the game. On our day we can beat anyone in this division but our days have so far been restricted to the Angus derbies in the cup. We desperately need a performance and a win, next week away to Clyde is our best chance but I’m not confident.
  7. Agreed but they had the personnel to make wholesale changes, we currently do not. Formation can be tweaked though.
  8. Very true, we haven’t seen any in action. I have no idea how good Jay Kennedy was ability wise but I’ve heard his attitude was very professional
  9. Sounds like TheClosingArguement was chief boo boy Halftime booing was embarrassing but at full time plenty of it was directed at the ref
  10. The ref was poor, shocking decision from him at the incident where Seb got hurt and his idea of ten yards, don’t get me started, six steps then three half strides each free kick. Elgin were a bunch of cloggers who happily time wasted for a draw half way through the first half. A poor toothless performance from the Athies () today.
  11. I’m definitely shouting out as loud as I can this afternoon “c’mon the Athies!” When I was a wee boy in the ‘70s Athies was in common use, nobody resisted it then, it only stopped being used frequently in the early ‘80s when our then commercial manager, Brian Rankin (scorer of the second goal in the ‘78 semi) coined the Sky Blues name as being more commercially viable than the Loons. Most of used the term The Loons all the more in resistance to Sky Blues. Despite my first sentence in this post, I’ve never been a fan of The Athies, always preferred The Loons. One term that really gets my goat though is “Forfar FC”, we are Forfar Athletic FC, The Courier (which I no longer read) were the worst for printing Forfar FC and the Sky Blues on their pages.
  12. I have three wishes for Saturday 1 - three points and no bum squeaking moments in the dying minutes 2 - current Loons’ optimism over this game doesn’t come back and bite us on the 4r5e 3 - no nasty tackles from screaming opposition players resulting in wrongful red cards for our players (that game last season still haunts me)
  13. The ref was poor, plenty diving from the Stenny players, combine the two and you don’t get a decent decision from the ref when there was a robust sliding challenge. The ref was poor for both teams, saw Wedderburn lead twice with the elbow but the Forfar whiny bitches turned out to be man enough to just get on with it rather than screaming for pity like the Stenny guy with no name on his shirt did when he fell over with no contact.
  14. Can’t disagree with that, I’d add that the two best keepers in the division were both playing in that game. Your big centre half (no 5) really impressed me, tough call between him and Morrison for best performance yesterday but I think the Stenny man shaded it. Both teams have a bit of improvement to see but can’t not see them both challenging for promotion
  15. We just missed out on promotion last season after a dreadful start/first half of the season with a poorer team than we have now, why shouldn’t we be challenging big time?
  16. That number 6 chose mediocrity and money over being part of something special. Likely relegation as opposed to likely promotion.
  17. Back in the day there was plenty heat in the Forfar Brechin matches, running battles on the terraces, I remember Archie Knox as player manager coming onto the terraces at the cemetery end at Glebe Park trying to calm the situation. It’s not that many years ago, ie in your lifetime, that there was a big flashpoint when me and my Dad and our cronies were pelted with coins and pies from the young team at Brechin, we stood up and they it. I’ve never experienced any real bother with Arbroath, there’s been occasional minor conflicts in the past with Montrose. I’d say it’s a greater rivalry with Arbroath in that beating them is more satisfying than other derbies but it’s not hate as such. The thing is I have good friends who are proper supporters of at all three of the other Angus teams. I know the Mug Man has a real hate for Brechin
  18. That late disallowed goal, looked an OG so couldn’t be offside…
  19. I was messaging a colleague, who’s a Montrose supporter, after the game, he said he would love Montrose to sign “pineapple heed” as he called him. I personally highly rate Roberto, one of my favourite players right now, I think we’re very fortunate to have him and all his colleagues in defence, we need to be strong at both ends of the pitch, the strike force is getting there, the defence looks like it could well be the best in the league.
  20. I noticed that Mr Doncaster was in the stand at the Alpha Projects Stadium Station Park on Saturday
  21. I was informed the mint colour and design are bespoke to us
