  1. There was a player called Douglas ( Dougie) Birrell played with the BU,s. Not sure if it was the same player.
  2. There have been bigger events than that in our history. Some still remembered, some long forgotten.
  3. If that was the case, I would have to agree with you.
  4. Glasgow replay was at Saracen Park, home of Ashfield.
  5. Think it would be Wums. Bo'ness man, lived in Grangemouth, was also a referee. Could be wrong though.
  6. I too tip my hat to passed and present members of the committee. In answer too your question, is it better today than it used to be?. Age has caught up with Newtown Park and more and more money is required. Cabins do look out of place but money dictates, but those same cabins have generated funds for the running of the club and upkeep of the park, ie. sponsors lounge, pie hut, united club etc. In recent years a new enclosure has been built, old stand removed, new roof over dressing rooms, along with maintaining and feeding the park. All money raised by Bo'ness United F C. It was because of all further improvements needed that inspired committee member Robert Snedden to look into where other moneys could be found, hence the formation of the NPA. Therefore to say that if it was left to Bo'ness United FC. we would be left with a crumbling stadium, you are well off the mark. Incidentally the BIT OF GRASS you refer to is one of the finest playing surfaces in Scotland.
  7. Had it not been for committee members of Bo'ness United FC. raising money, improving and maintaining it over the last seventy odd years, there would be no Newtown Park to talk about today. That should never be forgotten.
  8. I did not refer to any club in particular but was considering clubs in general. Still think it is an unfair rule.
  9. If unlucky in cup draws, enough to put some clubs out of the game. Very bad rule.
  10. Decent to great. He would have to be some player. Decent to good perhaps but great, never.
  11. Another week passed and still no new forwards on the horizon. Very disappointing. In the local rag, the Manager seems to be quite happy having got passed Crosssgates in the past weeks but no mention of the lack of goals from the forwards. Very disappointing. When both centre halves are among the top scorers it is blatantly obvious that something is wrong up front. Does he have a scouting system in place, does he have good contacts in the game? both serious questions.
  12. Yes they did, but don't think they have ever met in any other competitions.
  13. A bit late for the big turn around you desire. As for the ageing back four, this was evident at the end of last season and has not been addressed, therefore it should not come as a big surprise after the first game into a new season that age is catching up. A little early to be too critical and perhaps the Manager can make something of his new signings. Time will tell.
  14. Correct and as it should be. Had there been no Bo'ness United in the last 73 yrs. there would have been no Newtown Park During those years any improvements made, have been due to hard working Committees over the years, whether it be by raising the money by success on the park or fund raising and last but not least the faithful support given to the club.
  15. Thank you, it looks like it's going to be Fair.
  16. I may be old fashioned but I have to say I am going to miss the Juniors. Having looked at the fixtures for next season I see nothing to excite me. I have read the financial benefits that are available in this so called higher grade, but is money everything? I know that the following season and thereafter, if promoted the fixtures will improve but without the Scottish Junior Cup and the hope that, this could be our season to win it again, it is going to be a pretty poor affair For this I blame the SJFA. who have never tried to improve .the junior scene, but have just sat back and said, this is the way it has aye been. The result of that is that clubs like ourselves and Linlithgow have been forced to move away. The Holy Grail of this level is to progress into the fourth division of the senior league, but is this what Bo'ness United needs? I don't think so. When you consider that the entrance fee would increase to £10 or £12 just watch the gates dwindle further than they are at the moment. Give me the Juniors any day. Sorry if this sounds pessimistic but it's how I see it.
