Obviously the Dark Side are back in the same league as us next season so done some digging re derby fixtures from the past as knew there was an imbalance. The top 6/bottom 6 split has been on the go since 00/01 season which means there's only 3 Derbies guaranteed. In this time, there's been 9 times when Dundee and Utd have been in the top flight together. As a side note, when Celtic and Rangers and Hibs and Hearts have been in the same league, its been alternated every season re who gets the 1st home game.(which therefore guarantees 2 home games).

In seasons 00/01 & 14/15 Dundee have been at home first. In the other 7 seasons(01/02,02/03,03/04,04/05,12/13,15/16 and 21/22)Utd have been at home.7 seasons out of 9.

The other season we played in the same division(Championship in Covid season of 19/20),Utd also had 2 home to our 1.(albeit this couldn't be helped, although you would think the next time we were in the same league they would redress the balance.2 years later we were and they never).

If this was happening in the 2 other derbies there would be uproar as these games are the biggest earners for both clubs.About time our board grew a set and pointed this out as it's a big deal.Got a feeling it'll be Utd at home first again next season due to the pitch shenanigans.

Dont want to speak ill of the dead but that was down to that      Eddie Thompson when he was on the league’s board. Talk of sporting integrity…

    Car. Even with the restrictions?

Yes. The restrictions are North of Dens Road up to Clepington Road.

Fairmuir Park and Graham Street are other areas. Both probably half a mile from Dens and close to the Kingsway dual carriageway.

Sharp has decent potential. Had shockers when he first got his chance but has settled down and I'm quite comfortable with him in goal now. I have him in before Legzdins and still young. McCracken my first choice.

I hear about Robertson and he probably needs to go out and get regular first team games. I'd play him v Celts in a middle 5 to start for his energy and aggression to ensure we are in it 1st half (and then have a fresh Cameron v tiring players 2nd half), don't think comparing to last time where a middle 4 were just overrun is fair on him.

Would rather see Mulligan in before Robertson.

I think I’m about the only Dundee fan who rates Sharp , I think he’s a great shot stopper which is primarily his first job , dealing with crosses can be worked on , and his distribution isn’t any worse than the rest of them , just feel there is something there to worked on , he’s gonna make a decent career for himself

It’s as much to do with spreading the wage bill around the different areas of the pitch as much as anything else.

If we sign McCracken then we don’t really need a 3rd relatively experienced keeper unless we can get him out on loan again to cover a fair bit of his wage.

Then there’s a couple of decent sounding keepers coming through from the young age groups. The 16 year old keeper who’s been away on trial to a few English clubs obviously has a lot about him and you’d like to think if he signs full time with us he’ll been knocking on the door of the 1st team squad in the next year or 2.

Could definitely see an improvement in Sharp after his loan spell especially his kicking.

Robertson looked like an amateur at Parkhead, if you watch it back he loses his man every time and is nowhere near the level we need to progress. The boy can trap a ball and find a pass; his overall game is league one/lower cHampionship. We need to move on from players like him.

As for Bakayoko i'm okay with having him as part of a four man strike force next season which couldn't also include Pineda. Bakayoko has scored 6 goals and assisted 5 which is an average return. Sometimes he looks like he can't be arsed. I suppose we need a bit of continuity so i'll take Bakayoko, Boateng, McCraacken and Dodgson from the loan deals.

    Thank you.

Bakayoko’s work rates never bothered me. His hold up play could improve though. Lots of bad touches when you’re looking for him to hold it up.

Another that’s improving and learning the game up here. Starting to rough up the defenders during games which is nice to see.

I think Main at his best was better than Bakayoko but whether he'll ever get there again is debatable.  We can probably get better than Bakayoko, but he's absolutely someone I'd at least want in the squad.

I think Beck is well out of our reach and I'm not sure we'd struggle to replace Costelloe.  If we can sign McCracken, Boateng and Bakayoko then that would be a tremendous start.

Dodgson, Mellon, Donnelly and Robinson I could see the logic in signing but I'm not sure we'd miss any of them.

Mellon looks a player. I’d 100% keep him next season.

  8. Lamie plays for me. Would play him week in week out.  Him and Portales played well together.

If Donnelly was to play it’s in place of Dodgson. Donnelly’s use of the ball lets him down. Not sure he’s any quicker than Lamie tbh.

Would be daft to change the starting 11 after a really good performance.  Bring on Main and Mellon or Mulligan for the last half hour if all is going to plan.

In my experience it's Dundee fans that mention United in the 80s. Trying to turn it into something that is meaningless.

We can chat about the 90s if you want? How about oh...94? How about something more up to date say...2010?

You lads needs to STOP bringing United up. Let's chat about Dundee and their cup wins. I'm a middle aged man so I wasn't born to speak about it anyone else remember it?

Who’s this bell end 😂 piping up about 1 trophy in 30 years 😂😂

21 years is indeed a long time, although I’m not sure United have exactly been a leading light on the European scene in recent years.  I genuinely don’t know the answer so it may be quite recently but when did United last reach the first round proper of any European cup?

Be the 80’s like everything else 😂😂

This may not be popular with a lot of Dundee fans but I believe McCowan’s overall contribution this season to the team has been better that’s that of Greig Stewart when he was at Dens.  That’s not in a criticism of Stewart.

I genuinely wouldn’t swap McCowan for Cantwell, Dessers, Dowell or Silva and that’s not just based on last night’s performances.   I have no idea how much those four players cost.

You’ve got it absolutely spot on. Greg’s goals were exceptional and he was great to watch but let’s not forget the not tracking back and leaving his fullback exposed side to his game.

McCowan has been fantastic since Tony Doc came in. Probably our player of the season.

Several Dundee fans coming in here to gloat despite there not being a single Motherwell fan on here , or in the real world, appearing to be even remotely annoyed we missed out on the top 6.

I suppose when you’ve spent 15 of the last 20 seasons in the seaside leagues and 40+ in the shadow of your neighbours you’ll go over board about scraping a top half league finish! 😂

    Then there’s reality.
