  1. Not saying it's likely, but would United not just be a case.of Beerschot not paying the full fee? They paid an initial low figure, there would be instalments then the add-ons etc. Insituations like this,as you've said in the previous message, all that would be written off by United and. We'd just get the player. They wil want that from a third party to cover sell on fee and other clauses/instalments to United.
  2. Celebrating is one thing, running onto a pitch, when everyone knows you can get a hammering for it and has been the case for decades, to celebrate moving from 5th to 4th is a bit OTT. I said the same thing when we beat 10 man Ayr in the cup. If that had been Dundee or Aberdeen for example most of the fans on the pitch in Dingwall would have been ripping the pish. I also said on the other hand, some.of the reporting of this has also been OTT.
  3. I'm not a fan of smoke.bombs either. I have to be consistent amd rip into our fans for the pitch invasion. Had any other club done that we'd all to a man be ripping into them for embarrassment of acting like they'd won the league. We do have a number of fans that seem to invade the pitch at the drop of a hat, like beating a lower league team in an early cup round etc. I know it makes me sound like a total buzzkill, I'm old enough to remember proper pitch invasions all be it as a child, but at least it was for something memorable, final day saving from relegation, league winning etc not moving from 5th to 4th and having 1 less Euro qualifying round. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for big celebrations in the stands but and was jigging like mad following the game via twitter in a train back to Dundee, but I'd be a total hypocrite and be looking through tangerine optics to go the pitch invasion was all good. Having said all that, there was no malice, no truely bad behaviour, no aggression towards County fans or players so it does seem strange the reporting of the event from some journalists that was horrendous scenes of hooliganism. I'd expect better, fans will view it tribally, us good, them bad, but experienced journalists should be better (Iknow, I know!). Anyway here's to closing the gap to third and a cup next year!!!
  4. I think that was a different Hearts meltdown! Think that was Ian Brines needing the rules.explained to him and it was Zaliukas sent of in that occasion. That was also very funny!!
  5. The one where he was sent off for argueing with his own fans was very funny. You could always tell he was heading for a red card as he became more and more agitated & erratic on thr pitch.
  6. There wouldn't be enough of our players in the box to capitalise, and if we did get the ball, we'd want to take 3 touches & try to set someone else up!
  7. What gets me is there is no chat about Ryan Jack's disgraceful leg-breaker on Levitt, the shoulder charge on Niskanen in 1st half or McGregor's off the ball on Harkes (maybe because he does that type of thing so often its just "normal"). There was also the Rugby Union hand off, the usual lack of consistency in decisions which is just the usual we "diddies" have to put up with. That Graham hand ball under the old (proper) rules that fans, players,.pundits etc. didn't understand then it wouldn't even be a discussion. The ball is heading out of the box, no attacker near him and no movement towards the ball. Current rules if it comes off another part of your body first then its not a penalty and as you point out, I'm not sure it didn't.hitnhis chest first.
  8. The only "good" thing about it was when we were drawn I immediately said to my.other half "will play Celtic", and when The Fun™ were drawn, guessed Rangers*. No point asking me for predictions, that draw was easier to predict than someone's answer to a 50/50 question. Better going out at Tannadice rather than losing to these buggers again at Hampden. At least it will allow us to concentrate on the league!! Having said that, c'mon United knock these buggers out (please, just once?)
  9. The big problem is the budgets. If we get a good team, we get a good first 11, with some decent backup and youth. Those 2 have a good first 11 AND if they get injuries/suspensions get to bring in players of equal standing to replace them so don't end up weakened. Also the fact us "diddies" have to play them 4 times means that in general they will always pull away in ways that only playing each other twice wouldn't allow if a challange of sorts was put in. No getting away from it though budgets of 17 times greater than the 3rd largest budget comes into it, although having a little less of an "already beaten before taking the field" attitude would help as it is only 11 v 12 in games between them The cups is where we can win, but the decisions we have all had to face over the years against either, never mind the ends farce, means it is difficult.
  10. It's not just in the league though, the 2008 League Cup final was near enough as bad as the McCurry Ibrox game. Referred by known RFC fan Kenny Clark. The tackle on Kalvenes by Broadfoot was "assualt" and then the two handed "rugby tackle" by Carlos Cueller on Kalvenes in the box. Both no foul given.
  11. Taking it well... Did they really think singing "Tony Watt is a w****r" on and off for 60 minutes he wouldn't react? Shitehousery is one of his specialities.
  12. I thought McNulty started well, it appeared he had dropped out,.but his movement definitely kept the Motherwell defence busy and created space for Niskanen and Watt. I'd agree that Watt & McNultyare worth sticking with. The link up between them in the 1st half I thought was good.
  13. 1 I don't think that's fair representation of the recent posts at all, and if truth be told a little bit facetious. The recent comments have all been regarding the seriously poor play for the previous 13 league games in general. The " repeating the same thing again & again & hoping for different results" management we've had served up has been seriously poor. Last night's game, while not brilliant, showed promise and return to more of the quicker, pressing , more direct passing game that got us points and doing well earlier in the season. Most folk in this thread really wanted top 6 & improved performances over last season. With this squad and fees paid that is entirely realistic, I suspect Europe etc is just the usual jest and ambition rather than expectation. He has done well, it doesn't mean that everything he does is brilliant and doesn't make mistakes. Benji has done this a few times recently where a save has pushed the ball straight out to the feet of an attacker, see Ross County & last night did exactly the same thing. If an outfield player 1st timed a clearance straight to an opponent who got a shot away ( scores, had it saved etc) they would have a bit of criticism, its the same thing. We all appreciate you can't stop the ball rebounding like that all the time, but you can see a slight change in "style" in those situations that might be Benji it might be the coaching, it might just be bad luck. At the game I thought it was Benji's mistake, on the highlights, maybe he was just unlucky. It is something a goalkeeper would be trying to avoid happening though. But it is entirely reasonable for folk to discuss it, it has been picked up on every United forum.
  14. Tonight, while not being perfect, was a massive improvement over what's has been served up recently. We moved the ball quicker, we went forward with purpose. I thought Niskanen was good. You could see what he brings when given the chance to run at the opposition. Watt was good too, as was McDonald who seemed a calm influence in the centre of the park. I thought he allowed the others around him play. Graham though, for some one so young and after a torrid time at Dunfermline which could have knocked his confidence has been excellent recently. If we can keep the basis of tonights game in thr way we play going forward we should be OK. It certainly gives us something to build on & hopefully helps Courts see that we can take a game to the opposition and not be scared to attack.
  15. I agree. I have no issue with us keeping the ball, but you need variation to the play otherwise ot becomes predictable and easy to defend, you need to be able to mix it, playing fast or early to stretch the opposition, slow it down to take the sting out of the game at times, encourage the defending team to come out to create space. We don't do that. Its slow, slow, slow all the time, and the way it's done looks like they have no plan or idea what to do if its not working.
  16. Liam Smith in the Tele... The 3rd or 4th interview with a player or Courts about this since the Saints game. It states "after 3 games without a goal" which spectacularly misses the point, its been near 13 games, witth this slow, direction-less, no shots play. It is this that is the fans frustration. Also he states... “You are obviously aware of the noise around about you but I think, equally, you know you’ve got a job and know what you’re meant to be doing,” Smith said. “Passing the ball from side to side, it gets frustrating from the stands but we know in ourselves we are doing it with purpose." I wish someone would explain to us mmere mortals what that is because from the stands it looks like its slowing play down and helping the opposition get back into position closing off all space, rather than stretching them and attempting to win. I understand passing it sideways and backwards is necessary sometimes, but its all the bloody time.
  17. Mark Ogren has given Tam Courts the “primary objective” of making Dundee United a top six Premiership club – and keeping them there. Despite the fact United moved up a place after Saturday’s draw with St Johnstone, their run of one win in 11 league matches has seen some fans turn against the Tannadice boss. Addressing the appointment of Courts in his strategic report of the club’s annual accounts, Ogren described his head coach as the “outstanding candidate” to replace Micky Mellon last summer. But he also reiterated the main aim he has been set for this season and beyond. “When the role became available he was the outstanding candidate who was interviewed by the board,” said Ogren. “Tam’s remit is to continue with the club’s key vision of developing home grown players for the first team as well as cultivating a long-term game model across all teams and age groups within the club, with the primary objective of attaining a regular top six Premiership league position.” Ogren added: “Due to the principal activity of the company, the revenues of the business are inherently linked to the on-field performance and success of the football team. “The performance of the team in previous years led to the company making significant financial losses, which have required substantial investment to maintain the company as a going concern. “The principal risk to the business is therefore the possibility of the team being relegated to the Championship again. “The owners and board are committed to providing the required funding and infrastructure in the club to maintain it as a competitive team and going concern in the Premiership, and also to provide the platform to enhance the team’s prospects of a top-six finish and qualification for Uefa competitions.” There are currently only four points between fourth and ninth places in the Premiership, with United sitting sixth.
  18. I've never been a fan of the split from day one, its not the imbalance in home/away because lets be honest, some teams will play better away from home fans depending on how the season is going, its more the fact that, as has been mentioned before, it can stop teams in form from pushing up the league towards the end of the season & protect those not doing so well come the sharp end. This is going to be a very unpopular opinion. I'm not a fan of the play-offs here or in England. I know folk talk about the excitement they bring but its the unfairness of them. How we can justify letting a team who finished 4th in Championship, for example, be promoted instead of the team that finished 2nd is unfair. There have been 36 games played, if you've finished 3rd or 4th you've failed and don't deserve the chance. By all means a playoff between 2nd top & 2nd bottom I'm all for that. I would love a league where we only play each other twice as this would, in my opinion, allow more of a potential challange at the top. Down side to this is the amount of teams required to make it financially viable, could potentially bring in too mmany"meaningless" games. This was the same problem that brought about the Scottish Premier League back in the mid seventies. We are never going to get a consensus on something that will work financially, sponser wise, or supporter wise, it allways feels a bit that'll do as a compromise no matter what we do, sadly.
  19. According to thr Tele's twitter Biamou has a thigh injury that scuppered his move. Also looks like the accounts are out up until end of June 2021 (covering season with no crowds or hospo), wage bill up to 132% of turnover, but opeprating loss down from £3.19 million to £2.27 million. Ogren looking at turning a profit in accounts up to June 2022. Those would include Shankland and Smith trannsfers.
  20. I'll be there on Wednesday, after all you can't boo or criticise if your not there!! Threatening the young lad that if he doesn't behave he's having to use his season ticket and sit through another soul destrying 90minutes. All seriousness, not looking forward to this at all as the evidence does not suggest we'll suddenly revert back to being purposeful on the ball or moving it quickly. The chances of us scoring aren't good. Interestingly we have scored more points over the last five games than Motherwell (5 v 2), although god.knows how with the standard of play. 0-0 bore-fest
  21. There are stories doing the rounds be's either injured again or he's cleared out and no one at the club can reach him which is why his move to Cambridge fell through. Who knows though.
  22. This for sure . It will show that there was maybe more to Mellon's leaving, is there intense pressure from above on them after, that makes them feel they cannot take a chance or start second guessing themselves? Mellon's change to eye gouging boredom was after losing to Killie & Rangers 4-0, Court's after losing 5-2 to Hearts.
  23. Really obvious to me..earlier in the season, you saw the plan v Rangers and you started to see an attacking , pressing style form. From Aberdeen onwards it is as clear as day, he has them passing, ordered to be cautious, pass.backwards,. don't take a chance. When possession is lost get back behind the ball, don't dive in, stand up (celtic at Tannadice one of the worst examples of this). Midfielders coming back and sitting on the central defenders, that's not in the instinct of players , and not where Levitt plays normally. That is under instruction. Everyone back behind the ball at cornners and free kicks, that's under instruction. Every game they go out with the intensity of a training game. Maybe he needs to up the pace & intensity of training? There are one or two players that you can see on the pitch starting to get frustrated as hell.
