What a win, can’t believe how poor rovers were, was really expecting a peppering 2nd half but can’t remember Rae having a save to make. Sure this will give the boys plenty confidence for next week and the semi at starks next month. Another win for the apprentice over the master

I know we’re looking for squad additions this month but also think any extensions could be crucial too, as sides around us will be looking to make moves as contracts run down. Would be looking to tie Hancock, Rae, Ballantyne & McMaster down to longer deals as soon as we can - certainly all players that could move on to other teams at this level and above. And what about McCabe & Fordyce? Am I right in thinking the two of them are only contracted until the end of the season or is there a bit of “gentlemen’s agreement” about their situation do we think?
Arrivals… well we definitely need wide players and I think another striker wouldn’t hurt if we’re going about thing with two up front now. Maybe even a forward thinking midfielder if we can, but don’t think there’ll be a wealth of options for any of those positions.
I’m led to believe McMaster signed in a new deal early on in the season, no idea how long for but was past the end of this season anyway. Agree with you on others Rae and Hannock key players to get signed up.

This has crossed my mind also as I didn't think he was too terrible against Thistle. Maybe he is departing in January.
If I remember correct McCabe done the same with Jamieson last year, knew his loan wasn't being extended so what would've been his last 3/4 games he was an unused sub, good chance it's happening with Gabby and O'Connor.

Think we need to be realistic here, what is the likelihood that 3 championship level players are without a club in January?
There was 2 available until a couple of weeks ago who've to Raith and Morton, both we could've been doing with.

Any decent pubs in Airdire for a few pints before the game, preferably showing football?
West end bar or Cue here. Cue here about a 15 min walk from stadium and just up from train station if your getting train through.

Call me bitter but I blame Andy Ryan for costing us promotion that season.
Or you could maybe blame covid since it got the league stopped in March?
Anyway, match preview stating that Cammy Ballantyne faces a spell on the side-lines huge blow.

He’s just not good enough for the championship. That’s it really
Not sure what games you've been watching but he's been more than fine, 4 goals and 3 assists in 12 starts. If you think Gallagher is our biggest problem then your way off it.

McGill I'll give you, he looks lost in the championship but the ineffective Gallagher has more goal involvements than Craig Wighton, Lewis mcCann, Callum Smith, Mikey McKenna, Tony Watt and Dylan Easton, and is currently level with Cudjoe at Utd and Lewis Vaughan.
There's a lot of words I'd use for Cal Gal, ineffective in this team isn't one of them.
Great post, still can't believe the stick a small number of our fans give to Gal. Best striker of our modern era!!

No, snobby because of the comments you made about ‘ooooooh enjoy watching 4-4-2 hoofball!’
Grow up
Haha awfy defensive you's Arbroath lot, chill out man bit of banter.

Some Airdrie fans seem to have turned into insufferable football snobs that think they play like prime Barcelona - not realising nobody else cares how many times they pass the ball in a game and that they are playing in the Scottish ChampionshipThink only Mick Kennedy and Si Ferry could rival some of them in the Scottish football snobbery stakes
Haha if you think I enjoy watching us pass the ball sideways and backwards when we're 2-1 down your wrong. Snobby because I'm not a fan of Jim McIntyre and think Arbroath could appoint a better manager? Whatever floats your boat mate.

He was doing pretty well at Cove only got punted because Hartley got sacked from Hartlepool and his father in law wanted him back at Cove - if Cove kept McIntyre we would be in League 1 right now?
Horrific at Dundee yes but a win percentage of 40-45 everywhere else.
Managers always leave clubs by being sacked. How often do managers leave when they’re doing well? Very rarely. Look at Dick.
Maybe he’s not for you but his CV and record has a job like this one all over it.
Game of opinions isn't it, if McCabe left tomorrow and Jim was his replacement i'd be preparing for relegation. Would much rather take a punt on someone younger with fresh ideas. 442 hoof ball inbound for yous lot!

Why?
He’s managed Dundee, Ross County, Morton, Dunfermline and Cove
Why would he not be able to get a job in the Championship? His only disastrous spell was at Dundee. All of his other jobs he’s around a 40-45 percent win record with a title win and a League Cup win included
If not the arse end of the Championship then what level should he be managing at?
He's been sacked from his last 3 jobs, and not lasted a year at his previous 2. Sure he's statically Dundee's worst manager. After his Cove stint he doesn't deserve another championship job.
How long is he going to live off a league cup win? Yogi won the Scottish with Inverness the year before Mcintyre won the league cup, should he be able to walk into any championship job because of that? Not for me.

Can't understand how guys like him can still get jobs at a decent level, fairplay if he proves me wrong but I just don't see this as a good appointment. Fair play if he proves me wrong. Actually clocked Jimmy Boyle at our game on Saturday so the scouting has already started.

Saw this doing the rounds on Twitter. What would be everyone’s team? Mine would probably be -
GK - Josh Rae
RB - Cammy Ballantyne
LB - Paul Lovering
CH - Callum Fordyce
CH - Allan McManus
DM - Marvyn Wilson
CM - Dylan Easton
CM - Kyle Turner
CM - Willie McLaren
CF - Owen Coyle
CF - Alan GowI know it doesn’t ask for subs but I’d probably go for - S. Docherty, Dunn, Frizzell, Varielle, Hutton, Smith, Gallagher. Could argue for Andy Ryan or Allan Russell ahead of Smith and Gallagher but they were both only here for a season (Ryan was technically on our books during 3 different seasons but you know what I mean) so Smith and Gallagher’s relative longevity and contribution to getting us promoted sees them included. Management duo of Sandy Stewart and McCabe so I can get the latter as a player too
Think I must be slightly younger than yourself as a few of them I'm too young to remember some of Gow, Coyle etc.
GK - Josh Rae
RB - Cammy Ballantyne
CB - Liam Lindsay
CB - Callum Fordyce
LB - Paul Lovering
CM - Dylan Easton
CM - Ross Docherty
CM - Kyle Turner
RW - Andy Ryan
ST - Allan Russell
LW - Willie McLaren
Subs - Hutton, Gasparatto, Barr, Bain, Frizzell, Gal, Russell, Smith, Fraser

We'll really need to be on our game if the reincarnation of Pirlo is playing.
Mind him and Rohan Ferguson were going to take over the world
Didn't think McIntosh was bad at the time, steady enough. Miles better than guys like Boateng, Gorman, Daly and Schmidt who we had in at the time, some truly shocking footballers.

I still hold a minor grudge against him for not equalising at Celtic Park that day.
The scenes in the end that day for the penalty save, can only imagine it would've been bedlam if we equalized against them.

Watching the highlights back and seeing a Charlie Telfer f**k off to Robbie Muirhead as he's sent packing has made my Monday afternoon bearable, it's the little things eh

A competitive game for the challenge cup and don't think any team can have any complaints about the result.
One very noticeable point today was Josh O'Connor's performance and whilst I'm are he hasn't played much recently but simply doesn't look good enough. Magic done more in 10 seconds after he replacing him, best if went back to Hibs as he won't feature much for the rest of the season unless injuries dictate.
Brilliant to get through to the semis, rode our luck a bit start of the second half. Agree with O’connor absolutely miles off this level right now, would send him back and try find a replacement in January, clearly had been signed thinking we’d be in league 1 this season and not championship.

Can only echo what’s been said already, was expecting a tough scrappy game with Arbroath happy to let us have the ball n try n hit us on the counter with Hylton n Bird making runs, actually forgot Hylton was on the park.
Solid enough performance from us, done enough to get the win, Lewis Mcgregor so frustrating again glad to see him get the goal but could’ve had a couple prior to it! Much needed win before a couple weeks off the league, still notice a few teams below us got games in hand so hopefully results go our way.1 -
Reported in Daily Record that Darren Young is a big contender, surely he wouldn't leave Stirling for there Rivals!!

Happy to get through, sad that we'll need to visit Cappielow again.
Could be an interesting lineup on Saturday again if Hancock, Fordyce and Megwa are all out, another 3 at the back surely, and still no sign or mention of Gavin Gallagher! Strange situation with him.

Looks a very negative lineup and a don’t lose the game starting 11, hopefully can stop this rot and get something today!

I can't believe this guy is still getting decent jobs in football, the absolute dross he signed for us in league 1 and not to mention what a terrible guy he is. Tried his best to take over the managers job from Ian Murray, it was no surprise we reached 3 playoff finals on the trot after he left.
