With only three games remaining, and most of the playoff positions etc seemingly decided, who would make your team of the season?

Gk - Mehmet - An absolutely insane amount of clean sheets, while the defence in front of him have done a grand job protecting him, when he has been called upon he's normally been safe and assured. He's also fantastic at time wasting.

RB - Comrie - One of the positions I've really struggled with, Ballantyne had a big reputation but hasn't had the best of seasons it seems and seems to have played left back recently? Smith-Rowe at Falkirk has looked good and I could understand his inclusion, in the end Comrie gets in account of being part of a defensive unit which has performed so well, while his attacking output could be better no opposition winger has had the better of him, very solid defensively.

CB - Benedictus - Will sweep the player of the year awards at Dunfermline, I never anticipated him being such a great signing but he's been fantastic, I don't think he's missed a single league minute.

CB - Donaldson - I'm quite a fan of his, a very good signing for Falkirk.

LB - Edwards - The best LB in the league, a fantastic attacking outlet while also being v solid defensively.

RM - Morrison - A  really good season from him, 12 goals and 7 assists from a wide position is some going!

CM - Todd - What a season from the young man, 9 goals, many of them absolute stunners.

CM - Frizzel - Airdrie have been v good when we've played them and Frizzel is normally at the centre that, it was fortunate for the rest of the league that he missed a few games through injury.

LM - Ritchie-Hosler - I struggled allot with this pick, KRH is probably the best wide midfielder I've seen this season, however there might be a bit of recency bias with that, considered putting Gabby McGill here who I think had played a wide role?

ST - Gallagher - My two picks will seem horrendously predictable here, I've just went for the two top scorers! 20 goals is a fantastic haul. The best part time striker in Scotland?

ST - Paton - 19 goals for Paton and with him being out of contract you'd imagine he'll have a few interested parties. Honorable mention to Burrell who I think had the second best mpg, however McGlynn has preferred Oliver for good swathes of the season, thankfully.

You'll always have biased towards your own players, and I'm sure the RB and LM position will have a few different picks, however the other 9 are set IMO.

Yeah agree with most of this, Fontaine possibly for Donaldson and maybe a case for Gabby McGill on the wing instead of KRH mans been scoring for fun 2nd half of the season from the wing.

I totally agree with wanting the playoffs cemented before that last game but I feel the game will never be meaningless as we need to hand Edinburgh an absolute tanking after the games against them so far and the attitude they have shown to us.

Personally if we've already confirmed the playoffs by the time we play Edinburgh I'm really not interested what the score is that day.

If that Gallagher from Airdrie is available or the boy from Edinburgh Robertson then those won’t be bad shouts one he’s worked with and one that has potential

Gal is part time with Airdrie got a decent full time job in Glasgow area that he probably won't give up, can't really see him going elsewhere unless there offering part time wages higher than us.

Fair summary there I think.  A solid central defence is an absolute must (be it L1 or Championship) and its certainly been a serious weakness yet again for Queens this season.

Agree, there's a good chance Dunfermline and Falkirk both take the step up this season and you would think their budgets would exceed the likes of Accies, Arbroath or Cove coming down (tbf ... I'm not too sure about the level of funding for Cove; assume they are "sugar daddy" funded somehow).  So that should put Airdrie and Queens in with a decent shout at being competitive next season.  Good summer recruitment is going to be key for both clubs I think.  Big summer/season ahead for both McCabe and Bartley.

That is the hope for me personally, as funny as it would be to see Falkirk to fail to get promoted i'd much rather them out the league and 2 of Accies/cove/arbroath down, would be the best time for the board to give the playing squad a backing and really mount a league challenge.

Not been on for a while given the results!!!

Wee word for CGal. I’ve been massively frustrated by him at times in the past. IIRC he had decent chances v Cove and QP last season which he couldn’t take and he was constantly offside. Paired with a running style which is all arms and legs but little pace!!!

BUT I’ve really enjoyed watching him this season. Now able to hold it up really well, playing offside much better and some sublime finishes over the past 2 games which were wasted as consolations

I’d get him on penalties and sign him on a 2 year deal if he’ll have it. Seems a good lad too in interviews.

Yep 100% been consistent for years and stepped it up even more this season in a poorer side.

Can't believe there was a debate on here last season on whether we should keep him or not.

  6. 1 point from 9 in the last 3 games from the positions we’ve been in is a horrendous return and shows exactly why a player manager doesn’t work especially in these bigger games against more experienced sides. It baffles me that no experienced coach came him to help McCabe and sit on the sidelines, Sandy clark managing at east stirling last couple of months, surely we could’ve offered him to come in part time to help a bit of training and be on a touch line on a saturday?

I don’t want to try and Criticise McCabe too much but he said at the start of the season last seasons squad was too big and too many bench fillers that weren’t good enough to challenge the starting 11….. sounds familiar.

I’m still confident we’ll get playoffs I can’t see Edinburgh and Alloa both finishing above us, but there’s no chance we’ll beat the likes of Falkirk/Arbroath/accies/cove over 2 legs. Another season pretty much over for me and a big summer of decisions ahead.

  7. Thought Falkirk deserved there win yesterday based on 2nd half performance, our defence is an absolute car crash and yet again has killed us in this game. Thought the ref actually had a good game which is weird for this league. Actually think Falkirk look better than Dunfermline at present time but have probably left it too late to start playing there best football of the season bit like us last year.

Also that Falkirk tv commentator gives the rangers tv one a run for his money in being the worst commentator in the country, what a hard listen he is🤣

What's the feeling towards McCabe? When he was with us as a player I'd never have guessed he was the kind of character to get into management.

I'm a fan, feel he's done well considering we had no real squad depth the first half of the season. The club said when he was appointed there would be a structure in place to help him but he's had no other coaches come in that weren't already here bar David Hutton who mans the touchline.

Real leader on the park could see that last year that he's well liked and respected, hope he gets another go next season regardless if we go up or not.

I see Josh Kerr has left Bohemians. I wonder if he has something else lined up as it seems to have come out of the blue. Talented player, I'd still rate him above all our centre-halves apart from Fordyce, but just never fit. We had him for 3(?) seasons and barely got a sustained run of games out of him let alone a full season, including the shortened ones. A shame Bohemians never worked out as I thought it was a good move for Kerr at the time.

Actually wouldn't mind him back, but wasn't offered a deal close season so can't see why McCabe would offer him a deal now after a failed spell away.

I actually probably rate him better than I do Gary Oliver TBH. But your point about scoring against the teams around you and your promotion rivals is they key point I think. I haven't checked so it would be interesting to know how many, if any, he's scored against the likes of Dunfermline, Edinburgh, Falkirk etc this season? But it was in those sort of games last season where I think he was shown up as a lower-end League 1 striker. Struggled against Cove, Montrose, Thistle in the cup and, when him and Gabby McGill ended the play-off final as our front 2 we were never going to win it.

Have noticed the same. Especially when it's somebody who comes through the youth system or has another connection with the club or town. Also think there not being a good Airdrie team for about 15-20 years until last season has warped people's perpsective.

Yeah that Thistle game stands out for me, started over Gal for whatever reason and we couldn't create anything up top.

He only scored 3 goals for us last season and they came against Dumbarton East fife and Clyde.

That's it been officially confirmed and it would be tragic for the laddie if he's just back to warm a seat in the dugout.

Disagree with this. McMaster looked fine when starting matches which took a while after his injury. The game's Vs Dundee and Kelty/Falkirk either side of the cup game he didn't do anything wrong at all but he is the first to be dropped when the manager wants to change formation or line up. That doesn't do any good at his age when he's needing a run of games.

He's never had a howler of a game no, but I haven't walked out of a game and thought Mcmaster played really well. As Kenny M said earlier he gets the ball and its 5 yard back or side pass, offers nothing.

Jamieson's best position was through the middle as a striker. (he was wasted out wide)

I wouldn't think Prince or Dixon would be in Rhys's plans to start games, granted that no one has really seen them play.

Even though Gabby can play there it seems to leave Gal & Sal as our only 2 out and out strikers with Sal not really a success at Stranraer and not looking capable of playing 90 mins.

Big trouble if Gal gets injured therefore yes, we could be doing with a striker.

I'd say we need a LJ replacement but get the feeling that Lewis McGregor was it.

Didn't realise he had made that League Cup appearance for us, so assume he's back to shore up the bench same as Offord is. Expect maybe Olusanya might follow Brophy out on loan so it would be 2 out, 2 in.

Think the boy Dean McMaster is going to sign a permanent deal with Airdrie, but not sure if it's now or in the Summer.

McMaster been a really pointless signing so far for us, barely featured and when he has doesn't offer much. Hope it's not made permanent.
