Read a pretty strange article regarding Tierney today, I cant actually find it now to link. But the suggestion was basically that Tierneys lack of game time this year has nothing to do with whats now being asked of his position. And all to do with him being homesick!? Seems a bit off the mark to me as last season playing as a more orthodox fullback he was performing very well. Could there be a bit of truth in it tho? Is he sick of the jellied eels and pie and mash, and longing for a deep fried Mars bar?

Yeah I'd say my post was pretty clear and that were doing well defensively. On paper its now our weakest area tho. We want to improve so thats a big area we could. I know this is a crazy idea, but imagine we conceded less.

Except thats not the way it works, teams aren't forced to have only 2 really good centre backs and nobody else. I dont think I could name a national team who have 2 top class centre half's and nobody else. Theres nothing wrong with saying were struggling at centre back and could really do with some coming through. Don't get me wrong I think its one of Steve Clarkes main strengths and our backline have performed probably above expectations. Especially recently. But we don't have one centre back playing for a top team, and it would be great if we could.

He used to annoy me but look at it more as jokes than trolling. Some of them are pretty good, some not so good. Same kind of deal as @Barry Ferguson's Hat And in fairness he gets a bite nearly every post from the only poster who seems to be unable to detect any form of humor. Theres only one poster making the forum unreadable and it isn't the guys posting one line jokes. Its the guy rewriting the same 5 paragraphs and posting them continuously.

Its not even as good as that, im sure what im about to say isn't what you were meaning. But those minutes don't even equate to 8.5 games in terms of getting gaining and maintaining form and confidence. In comparison to playing 90 mins of football would do. Hes done remarkably well for us considering that. But we want and need him at his best. Hopefully he's out of there in the summer. Arteta has made an arse of him, and he's also made an arse of himself blowing the league.

At the end of the day it doesn't really matter where we feature compared to other nations. Theres noting wrong with seeing and discussing how we could do it better. How can we improve is for me a perfectly reasonable and expected discussion you would have on a forum dedicated to Scotland. I doubt Belgium are sitting there going "were sorted let's nobody talk again about youth development"

Yeah I'd agree with all that, I think he's potentially just below that elite level. Possibly a great signing for a Newcastle or Aston villa. But it would be great for him and us to make that kind of move and show what he can do. Possibly even he would get the chance in a more advanced position.

I dont think you read me saying it wasn't serious, or couldn't or shouldn't affect his form. Or have a negative effect on him. It might have been a factor in his lack of appearances earlier in the season as well. The only joke I made was at my own expense.

He came off the bench so he's clearly fit. Thats a pretty brutal kick in the teeth for him. Clearly arteta just doesn't think he's a good fit for the system.

Other than as you say not being strong enough. Being that he was completely 2 footed it was obvious he could play right back. Also his coaches mentioning that he can play either side. But centre back is a completely different skill set, and not to even mention more suited to players with certain physical attributes. Hes not been exposed to playing in that position by any of his clubs. Id say for good reason. I could see him playing right or left of the back 3, but in a 2 you would be leaving him absolutely exposed. If when hes older he fills out and actually plays that role then why not. But the Scotland team is about winning games not giving players experience in different positions to progress them personally. If he is going to make a positional change id think the more obvious and suitable one would be him in a midfield role.

We both know hes not ignoring me, he makes every move i suggest. Won't be passing on the Hickey at centre back tip tho. And wouldn't even consider playing Tierney at centre back with 2 central defenders.

I never seen the game so I can't agree or disagree, watched that pass about 10 times its brilliant vision and ability to pull it off. What I would say tho is bear in mind hes still a young guy who's not got that much experience in the league (his Norwich stint was a disaster) Who's hardly played for a long time.

It really is an amazing turn around from Gilmour, forcing his way into the team for the most important part of the season. And couldn't have come at a better time for us, were a better team with him in it.

Its been mentioned before, but he does look physically bigger. If you have a look at pictures of him playing for Chelsea or Norwich you can see a noticeable difference. Hes never going to be unit of a guy, but that extra muscle will be doing him the world of good. And also improve his confidence in winning the ball. Its whats hes needed for a while.

Yeah I remember, and its fair enough. I do have a tendency to get dragged into boring pointless chats and lose perspective. I dont mean to, but like I say lose perspective. Ill work on it. I have offered him to pm me many times.
