Hmm he definitely was tho. Was in a few squads and seemed to be the cover for taa. Played well in his limited time before he got injured and those injuries have hampered him since.

I thought Ramsay had the higher ceiling as he was/is better than Patterson going forward aswell as defensively although both need to work on the defensive side.

Didn't Ramsay have the best stats in Europe for a right back just before he left the dons ?

I hope they both get back on track and get consistent game time, would provide Hickey with real competition for that right back slot.

Id agree tbh, I thought Ramsay looked a better player than Patterson also.

He had so much for such a young player including a lovey right foot. Excellent crosser.

Hopefully he can get himself fully fit and back on form although its looking like he would have been better staying at Aberdeen a while.

"Numberwang" That is very rich coming from yourself and you're obviously obsessed with this Sand Dancer bloke considering you keep calling me that, very weird.

    Try better.

I've been posting on here a fair while and have absolutely no idea who Sand Dancer is🤣

Honestly just stick him on ignore mate your not going to get any sense.

Took you a while to get it

On that i was reading that Doak isn't far away from playing and is back in full training.

Very unlikely hes not going to have much time in matches for his club before the end of the season. But would be an exciting addition to the squad.

  4. Interesting to read it was a South American thing, I had assumed it came from the ajax Cruyff team.

I remember reading Zlatans biography and his frustration with Van Gaal saying "no the 9 doesn't go here or do this, he does something else"

So just assumed it originated from Ajax.

Wow. I made a stupid wee observation about numbers being used to identify players positions. Is there literally nothing that people won't find a reason to fight about?

Personally I dont refer to the positions by numbers. But if others do I know what they mean so each to their own 🤷‍♂️

For some tho its any reason to try and belittle people.

I think this is true. I also think it's one of the reasons why we are better placed now than we have been for some years.

For a long time the Scotland team felt a bit thrown together, with no continuity. When compared with other teams our players were inexperienced at international level, had fewer caps, and it showed. They often looked like they didn't believe they belonged on the same pitch.

Meanwhile successful countries of similar size, Croatia, Denmark etc were turning up at tournaments with what seemed to be virtually the same team, year after year. These players must have gone through form dips, but they kept their place because they were established international players, and valued squad members.

We now have almost a whole team with 40, 50 or 60 caps. I think this has been a goal of Steve Clark,  and I think it makes us stronger.

Yeah definitely theres been more continuity, which is alot to do with the manager and also having better players. But examples given like O'Donnell perfectly illustrate the manager will replace players. The players he brings in to replace them will be judged on their club form.

If you look at the squads of the teams you mentioned there will be continuity but also there will be changes as new players emerge and stake their claim. Just blindly selecting the same players because they have played for years would be a dereliction of duty.

If a striker appears whos banging in goals and playing well at a good level they will be straight in the squad. If a player in any position is performing well at a good level then they will considered also.

I actually buy your underlying point. Why cheapen it with a silly little emoji and a personal dig? The stoic mask is quite slippy, it seems

I do also, there's a balance to be drawn which is up to the manager to decide (and us to debate). But to think club form is not at all relevant is blinkered and blatantly incorrect. Also quite boring.

How else would new players be brought into the team/squad which he has done. Why is Shankland getting a chance? Club form.

He was never brilliant but he was a lot better than he is now. It seems like he is shot - putting him on the pitch in Germany would humiliate him. If his form picks up next season then he should still be considered, but it looks like that will be for a League  1 or 2 club unfortunately.

Yeah he's went backward for whatever reason, perhaps just not cut out for that level 😏

When he first came into the squad he was full of confidence and despite his limitations he was making the most of himself.

He had one of his better games with even most of his detractors in the QPR support conceding so going by online posts. He created their goal. Whilst they are frustrated by his lack of goals, general opinion is that they play better when he's the starter from their three centre forward options, none of whom are regular scorers.

Had a wee look at the comments after the game today. Id say that is definitely not the general opinion.

The general opinion of qpr fans from my research is they think he's absolutely useless.

Not checked these facts but its quite startling reading.

"Lyndon Dykes has scored 1 goal in his last 53 away games for #QPR (vs WBA in April 2023)."

"Since the start of last season QPR's #9 Lyndon Dykes has scored as many goals away from Loftus Road for QPR as Seny Dieng (1).

Dieng is not only a goalkeeper, he also left QPR last summer 🤦‍♂️"

Think we need to face the facts that he's just not a very good player.

  10. 8 hours ago, Skyline Drifter said:

He's certainly better than Patterson but what makes you assume he's not been "sounded out" already? It's not like his eligibility is some startling recent revelation.

Livramento has no particular reason to jump our way at the moment unless he was raised 'Scottish' a la McTominay, which his involvements in young England sides would suggest he wasn't. He's 21 years old. England's established right back Kyle Walker is 33. He'll be competing with the regularly injured Rhys James for the England right back slot soon enough and likely for the next decade. There's no reason at all for Livramento (or Gordon) to be committing as Scottish any time soon if they'd prefer to play for England. Nor Anderson I suppose but he's not as good as them plus he was Scottish through his youth career so his recent consideration to defect the other way was a surprise.

Harvey Barnes is slightly different in that he's nearly 27, has one England cap from 4 years ago and plays in a position where he's up against guys like Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Marcus Rashford for a place. His chances of playing for England are much lower and he has 5 years less in which to do so. However, you have to respect if he considers himself English and only wants to play for them that's fine.

Ok mate, nobody will play for Scotland unless you say so 👍

Aye totally, find it very strange that certain people come on here to try put others down, make fun of their comments especially when their point is entirely valid and make out they are stupid for having a different opinion. Get a life.

Yeah no chance we will see anyone different now unless there is a major injury crisis but I do see it as a big opportunity missed and can't understand why Clarke hasn't tried our various players during this international window.

Im hoping tbh hes constantly assessing his options and decided its best to stick with what he has and what the team knows. Rather than a sense of loyalty to players.

Look at how brutally Alex Ferguson was in terms of cutting players out and improving yearly. And this was guys he had playing weekly for years.

Your conitnued attempt at sarcasm isn't quite hitting the heights you expected are they?

I've tried giving you the benefit of doubt but I think you'll be on ignore like others have done very soon if this is all you're gonna post about.

You've sussed the forum out fast!

Yeah there's a group of people against any football related  discussions. Which I would have thought is the point of a football forum.

Tbh its a breath of fresh air you and some of the other newer posters.

Regarding new strikers. I think the chance for this has past now for the euros. We had the chance to try out some new faces/ideas but instead stuck with what we had. Id say its to late now.

Its not worked recently but hopefully it will at the tournament.

Unbelievable he hasn't been given a go in the squad, he could of been a very valuable player to us if given the chance.

Watching the N Ireland  game I thought about him. We were crying out for someone like him with the ability to do something different and open up their defence.

We were so static, predictable and uncreative.

It looks like he's never going to get a chance under Clarke, which is a mistake in my book.

He could be an important player for us, but without the chance we will never know for sure.

Its a shame as you can tell hes dying to play.

He's a total sasij, not sure what his MO is on here but it's getting tedious

Its that nobody should talk about  the Scotland team or players🤣 i know its pretty weird

  15. 31 minutes ago, Skyline Drifter said:

This is another wild take. You can discuss it all you like but it's fantasy stuff. If UEFA increase the squad size to 26 (and there are no enforced injury absences) then Clarke will call up three from Cooper/Soutter (one of them will already be in), Taylor, Ralston and Jack.

Conway's chances of going almost certainly depend on one of the established three strikers missing out and even then it's possible he'll call McBurnie first. He'll certainly call Jacob Brown first if he's fit by then. If Clarke's already said it's not likely any of the u21's will be called into the Euros squad (which he did) then calling Conway up to the N Ireland game would be pointless.

Barnes has been in the press the week of the international break and reaffirmed his hopes to play for England. He's clearly not planning to defect to us any time soon and the notion that neither Clarke nor Carver have not already spoken to him or his agent is naive (or just deliberate trolling?). Nobody switching country will be appearing in the Euros now. If they were they'd have had to switch allegiance ahead of the last break.

Thanks for letting people discuss it, and its great to know exactly what Steve Clarke thinks 🤣

Discounting Anderson, Livramento is the only one I've heard say anything personal about Scotland. Before the last Euros I read and interview where he was asked if he'd consider Portugal over England and he said something along the lines of "my dad isn't much into football but my mum would love it if I played for Scotland". I doubt that makes it him any more likely to play for us imminently though.

Well its positive and better than "I wouldn't consider scotland"

Should be calling up Livramento, he seemed like the most likely to choose scotland plus we need another option at right back.

I think if he would play for us he would be a great addition, what makes you think he's the most likely to play for us tho?

Goals. Confidence. Fox in the Box. He's the man in form. Young Prospect Wildcard. Call him up. Needs to start against Germany. Let's get this clamor started. Get him capped, tied down - let's see what he can do in the friendlies.

If your frustrated with people discussing potential Scotland strikers on the Scotland pages in the Scotland section?

    Just don't read it.

  19. 1 hour ago, Gordopolis said:

Sure, but with respect to the here and now - as in, the next few months running up to the end of the season and the Euros - he is and will continue to be fairly heavily involved with his club side, not "bombed out" as some are claiming on here.

What you gonna do, thats what some are like 💁‍♂️

  20. 5 hours ago, Gordopolis said:

Wasn't saying it was something to celebrate, was just pointing out that the "Dykes is finished at QPR" narrative is nonsense.

Wether hes finished at QPR or not i couldn't offer an informed opinion.

But looking at the fan reactions to him id guess he's not playing well. He's certainly not scoring often.

So its possible he might not get much of a look in next season if they see it as an area to improve.

That's the only thing in your post I agree with.

Tbh id have Shankland as first pick also.

Which considering its the same guy I watched for a season be pretty woeful for morton its quite something. Hes certainly not any kind of favourite of mine, just the most likely to actually score and play well.
