Aye - my three abiding memories of that day were the wind, the running battles and being delighted that I was offered Smokies in the pub before the game :) Can't remember much else as it was a long train day (and the type of cup trip that Motherwell hardly ever get).

These two games (well, one and a half) are also my only visits to Arbroath. Ridiculously windy, abandoned at half time and a handful of young Arbroath fans and a few polis getting chased up the street by the middle-aged men that only seem to turn up for our cup away days. The police totally over-reacted by turning up in huge numbers with dogs and horses for the re-scheduled midweek game with hardly anyone there.

Hit the bar with my third guess.

Fair play to anyone still using shite as their first word. Off to a flyer.

I was pretty similar with my third guess. So near yet so far.

Hats off to those getting it in 2. Some real leaps from their first guess too.
  3. Clearly the motivations for this move are questionable, but tbh I do think the current BBC funding arrangements are an anachronism.
It is not appropriate imo to have a system where people can be imprisoned for not paying for what is effectively an entertainment service that they don’t need or want.
Yes, there is an argument that the BBC’s public service output should be protected and funded through other means.
But I can’t see a valid argument for compelling people to pay for  Bargain Hunt or Strictly come dancing that they don’t want- that’s equivalent to Amazon Prime charging a fee to watch Netflix.
No, that's the equivalent of Netflix or Amazon Prime charging you but you only watch some of their programmes. Which is what happens.
  4. There weren't many of us who weren't excited by the signing. I can only assume the club put him through a medical, decided he was unfit but not injured and decided to go ahead on the basis they could get him fit. You'd have to assume he showed a willingness to get fit at the time but didn't follow up on it.

Even looking back after a few years, I don't think you can blame for taking him on and the fans being excited. Nobody knew McCormick had pretty much retired already.

  5. It’s a common theme though. Lassie at my work said “when did you become a *** c**t”
At least you were polite in your insinuation. Her, not so much.
Shows how some people's minds work, I'm seeing Dundee United!

Anyway, quite pleased with today's effort. Well done to those who got it in two.

Excellent Imperial Stout from Spey Valley and a bargain at £1.99 from Lidl.
Just bought what looked to be the last bottle in my local Lidl on my way home from work- looking forward to trying it. Enjoying a bottle of Orkney's Puffin which I picked up at the same time. Very nice with a spicy aftertaste. f94c6800ade41ba806d1ea254ccf30e5.jpg
  7. He's an acquired taste, obviously, but I thought he was brilliant. Certainly an experience, albeit one that makes Frankie Boyle look like Terry and June.
Only 5 or 6 people walked out after the first few minutes which was apparently less than usual, especially considering his opening monologue that night was all about Grenfell Tower.
I saw him at Strathclyde Union many years ago, maybe nearly 30 so he must be a decent age now. I think there were only a few walk-outs, he definitely sets out to shock from the start. I certainly doubt any student unions would be prepared to book him these days. [emoji1]
