  1. Good shout. Had a quick google looks as if the rule was changed in 2014. Must have three goalies in 23. My apologies Gordon. However he's not getting away that easy. He named three LBs in the 23. Also he said Tierney was playing because Robertson had a achilles injury so why put him on the bench? Anyway that doesn't matter, very strange decision leaving Burke out of the 23 after playing in the previous two matches. Can't be often a player's boss has phoned the international manager asking for the reason for his omission. Especially a foreign manager taking the time to do this. Yes he was definitely in the stand watching the match. Apart from leaving him out that was another of his managers gripe that he wasn't allowed to come home to prepare for this weekends match like McKay.
  2. Yes I've posted a few about this on the 'Gordon Strachan' topic. You are allowed 12 on the bench. Couldn't get my head round this either. Strachan said he wasn't experienced enough for this match! (McGinn who came on, is?) Starts him in the previous two very important matches, then leaves him out of the 12 subs named. Subs bench included two sub goalies. When was the last time and how many times has a team at any level required to use 3 goalies in the same match? Hamilton is also experienced? . I know McKay was ok to leave but not sure about Naismith but Burke was in the stand. Burke's boss has phoned Strachan asking him the reason he wasn't in at least the 12 subs when he started the previous two. He phoned as he couldn't understand it either. Obviously like me, was there another reason? Also he was unhappy that Burke like McKay wasn't allowed to return to his club early. Wish I knew what was said. I hope Strachan had a good answer and not sarcastic one!! Imo there is certainly another reason and nothing to do with lack of experience.
  3. My main point was explaining the coaching term. (Neither does McKay! )
  4. It's a coaches term. For instance Michael OHalloran also runs in straight lines. It means they don't have a high level of ability to drop a shoulder or more so have a trick to go go either side of the opposition player. To give you obvious examples in different eras as I don't know you age. George Best, Jimmy Johnstone, Willie Henderson, Barrie McKay and James Forrest don't run in straight lines. They have the ability to consistently beat a player on either his left or right side. So Robertson? was injured but he was on the bench when there was a fit LB on the park and another fit LB on the bench. My point is that but he leaves a player out who he started in the previous two matches and covers another position. Imo I am in no doubt he was left out of the squad for other reasons than his ability.
  5. At present very pacey. However inexperienced, runs in straight lines, poor touch, doesn't drop a shoulder and doesn't have a trick to go past defenders. Not convinced he can finish under pressure. Hey but he is only 19. Strachan to leave him out of the squad after starting him v Malta and Lithuania suggests there must be a story behind the omission. He listed two left backs on the bench.
  6. You are so wrong. Read the posts. They are so different. (No offence Tedi coz mine are coaching/match analysis. Pretty boring )
  7. I have little doubt that it would be about £20k a week. Rangers need much more experience and more solid CBs. Managers of prominent clubs must get success every season or they will not survive. Two seasons is not short term. Rangers fans/Warburton don't want a 4/5 year plan they want to try and compete against Celtic now. To sign a young CB on 10K a week would probably be a £750k transfer. Which £750k signing would be a substantial improvement on Keirnan or Wilson? Also the fact they are paying £750k now and £750k next year for Garner tells that there is little/no money left. It's easier for Rangers to pay a higher salary on a monthly basis as they don't have the money for a transfer fee.
  8. I don't know for sure the reason yet however Aston Villa are not going to say he failed a medical as they want him off their payroll. When a player travels the distance to have a medical and apparently has one, the salary package is already agreed. Would you really have a medical then quickly after it say you are not signing because of family reasons? Rangers budget is small compared to Celtics however they would not have paid for travel and a medical then say they can't afford him! Imo it's either a failed medical or a late call from a club offering a much better deal! Mo Johnston comes to mind. Anyway well done Warburton for his effort. Rangers are moving in the right direction. Mosni and McCulloch comes to mind!
  9. Good football humour from Barton. It's always more funny when it's possibly true. I can assure you the Celtic players will be laughing as well but not in front of him.... well not the fringe players! Heard Rodgers was spotted shopping with his young girlfriend. Appears the tan and teeth have worked! I'm sure Rodgers will have a chuckle as well When a youngster is released apart from disciplinary reasons it's because a decision has been made that it is felt he will not enhance the team's performance in the future. They are not released so that older players can be signed! Also Murray Park is not just used for the youths to progress Rangers are not a club who can have a 4/5 year plan to consistently challenge Celtic. With the poor team McCoist left, playing the last 4 seasons in lower leagues and with a much lower budget and no champions league to entice players Warburton is doing just fine. Rangers fans realistically know to win the league is 'almost' unachievable this season however next season....
  10. Agreed with your thoughts and I actually feel that the three goals were poor defending. Fans shouldn't be fooled that because it was an EPL side that's why the goals were scored. I would expect Celtic, Aberdeen and Hearts at least to have exploited the same space given, as teams did last season. My main concern is we all knew the frailties of Rangers defending last season. You would expect from early last season, work on the coaching field would have been done weekly, however as late as the last match of the season a cup was lost due to very poor defending. This tells me either the players in certain positions are not good enough and/or the formation needs changed. I appreciate the season hasn't started yet but last Saturday's defensive performance to me showed no sign of improvement.
  11. I think most would agree with that however that's not our concern. It's the manner on how we gave Burnley the opportunities to score. Most agreed that the back four of last season had defensive weaknesses and that was in the championship. Unless signings are made this week it may well be the case that the same players will be the back four on Saturday. Over the season I feel it wouldn't be as strong as required.
  12. Regardless how good Burnley are, the goals Rangers lost were down to Rangers not the quality of the opposition. The position of the individuals and unit was extremely unprofessional and whatever Warburton's budget is, and I am not complaining about his signings ( tho not sure about Hill ) I am deeply disappointed that with less than a week to go we have not sorted out the defensive frailties both as a unit and individuals. Still he still has a month to make signings to rectify this and I'm sure he will be trying 24/7.
  13. I've just read some of your previous posts. Pot and kettle come to mind!
  14. All staff are legends! Wait until I see Tam the kit man. He will laugh his head off! You have every right to call whoever you want a legend. I appreciate you are still in celebration mode. As said enjoy it and good luck with your promotion quest next season. I genuinely hope Hibs get promoted.
  15. I've been quiet since the final rather like Mark Warburton. First of all congratulations to Hibs they thoroughly deserved their victory. Stubbs tactics and Hibs players performances spot on. As I posted prior to the final I was fairly sure that they would go with a 3-5-2 as it worked well at the previous match v Rangers. Warburton didn't have a plan B however slightly in Warburton's defence he neither had the players on the park or bench to change Rangers formation to stop Hibs dominating. Embaressing defending at the corners however the quality from Henderson's delivery and both headers were 10/10. I suppose I have to comment on the pitch incident. Imo the whole episode was embarrassing, shameful and disgraceful and it was disappointing for the Hibs players not to enjoy the usual 'lap of honour'. I'm past caring who should take most of the blame, however, anyone who got involved should be severely dealt with from, depending on the incident, prison or bans from future matches. I'm taking nothing away from Hibs however I think we should be careful how and when we use the word 'legend(s)'. Inverness, StJohnstone, Hearts, Celtic and Dundee Utd have all won the Scottish Cup in recent years. Are they legends? Not imo. Muhammad Ali is a legend. RIP. As for Hibs fans enjoy and celebrate the win for as long as you wish that's what winning cups is all about.
  16. Learn quickly. The vast majority of the posts are about slagging other posters. Very little on the formation or tactics of teams and don't disclose you've been to Largs for your badges or even an ice cream!
  17. Hibs are well capable of winning this final. Finals or other matches we have all seen one team get the luck and the other not. If that luck swings Hibs way then even more so they have the quality to win the match. Again I hope both teams finish with eleven so not to ruin the match.
  18. It goes without saying Hibs players will be on an all time low after failing to get promoted or even getting to the play off final plus the ridicule from the media. However unlike Rangers on match fitness they will have benefited from the play off matches and then with the week off. Like most finals the first goal will be important to both sides. Recently both don't find it particularly easy to score from open play and both defensively can be suspect. I felt Hibs got their formation right (3-5-2) in the recent 3-2 win and tho they have reverted back to four at the back I think they may go with a 3-5-2 again.
  19. There is little doubt Rangers approx £2m budget? will be more than other clubs. However no disrespect to other clubs if fans were asked the vast majority would say Hibs are the team they have to top to win the Championship. Last season Hearts budget was I assume not near to Rangers £6/7m but that didn't matter as they had a better squad mostly already in place and as I have already said it was no surprise to me that the comfortably won the Championship. I see Hibs similiar with many of this season's players in place from last season tho I admit not as strong therefore will not be as consistent. I do take your point Hearts consistency was remarkable and probably Rangers, Hibs or the eventual winners of this years Championship will not reach Hearts points total. We will have to wait and see.
  20. Tbf a lot of good points from many posts and I do prefer talking football tactics rather than the politics but that is virtually impossible when Rangers is the subject. We must all agree nobody would have thought it was possible what has happened to Rangers over the last three years. I never thought for one moment that King was going to be a ' Rangers sugar daddy' but one thing for sure whatever he said to convince the majority that the past board had to go had to be said. This is a very long process. There is little doubt Rangers financially imo are really struggling. Listen to the interviews and look at the calibre and cost of the player they have 'bought' for this season. I recognise it's very early however I am more than happy with the appointment of Warburton. I mean this genuinely. He is changing the way they play for the better and new fresh players have come in and unlike last season will be better coached and more enthusiastic. He has virtually to sign a championship winning squad with an inadequate budget ( it will be interesting to know at the end of the transfer window, the amount spent and savings on the wage bill compared to last season) Do I think the calibre of player being brought in is going to have the quality to win the Championship? More than difficult. Hibs have a more settled squad and will have learned from last season. Hearts were my favourites last season and Hibs are this season however it will be tight however taking Allan out of Hibs and placing him in Rangers midfield would certainly give the helicopter pilot a problem. Both teams and others will have to achieve Hearts consistency or fail. Warburton squad this season should have been started when in Division two however the difficulty is, its the Championship Rangers need to win.
  21. I agree with your views and to move forward to the level of Ross County and Partick is a good target. Murray was doing everything that's why Malpas was brought in but you must agree a few months is not long enough to see a noticeable improvement. Yes I agree no matter what, when fans stop buying season tickets the manager is usually the first to go! Rightly or wrongly that's the name of the game.
  22. Raith were crap at all these things corners, set pieces, throw ins and defending and still beat Rangers in two important cup ties! Gawd what would the score have been if they were good at these things! Btw corners, throw ins are set pieces. Lol!If you are so knowledgeable and noticed this tell us what they were doing wrong? McGurn was not shat on and I'm sorry this is professional football the fact he is a fans favourite means absolutely nothing to a manager! Tell us also what was your expectation in the league this season. I'm sure you expected to beat Rangers at Ibrox in the cup! Something Inverness failed to do when they were sitting 2nd top of the premier!
  23. This frequently happens with most clubs. There is no doubt fans and players have the power to get a manager the sack!
