  1. I've always thought there should be a Hall of Fame spot for great coordinators, even if they failed as head coaches.
  2. His dad said recently that he can't tell Johnny what to do because Johnny is richer than him. I think there could be something to that is some cases. There's a reason basically no adults play the game for fun in rec leagues. It hurts as an adult and is ridiculously dangerous. I used to love playing more than anything else when I was a kid. There's zero chance you could talk me into a game of tackle football right now.
  3. Speaking of the CFL, Duron Carter set a new standard for Wide Receiver celebrations. I'm amazed that nobody on Ottawa laid him out. Saves the Browns 1/4th of the money they owe him this year. I was wondering where he was getting the money to keep showing up at courtside NBA games and destroying rental houses with cocaine parties. Seems they are on the hook for awhile as his contract was partially guaranteed.
  4. Quebec Taxpayers Spent Hundreds Of Millions On An NHL-Ready Arena And Didn't Get An NHL Teamhttp://deadspin.com/quebec-taxpayers-spent-hundreds-of-millions-on-an-nhl-r-1782674922
  5. Tebow apparently brought a man back to life on a flight. A mans heart stopped. CPR, IVs, AED machines. Nothing was working. Tebow leads a prayer and the man's pulse starts back up. I think it's great. I lived in Canada for a bit and of course you meet Canadians here all the time. It seems to me that they care more about the NFL, although the CFL has a hardcore fanbase and the Grey Cup itself is a huge event in Canada. I think it's usually the 2nd highest rated tv show after the Super Bowl in most years.
  6. I'd take a Grey Cup victory. I'm sure it's great times. Not sure if this has been posted before, but it's great so I won't apologize.
  7. The CFL is great and the Canucks have the no. 1 claim to inventing American football . . . . . . but this is an All American USA story. Former Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks QB Tarvaris Jackson has been arrested for pulling a gun on his wife and saying "I'll kill you." Her response according to the police report: "You better be accurate because you ain't accurate on the field."
  8. Quebec should get a team before Vegas. Sucks to see fans who would actually care about their team passed up for the mighty $$$$. I'm not sure about how much attendance you are going to get from the snowbirds supporting their old home town. That was part of the plan for Florida and Arizona, but it hasn't seemed to work out in either of those markets. There just aren't enough Chicago, NYC, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Philly, etc people in these cities to move the needle that much. The one thing that will help Vegas is that as a one sports town they will get all the demand for corporate tickets. We will see how much of these end up used. I could see tickets as part of a hotel package and then the folks heading to the strip club instead of a hockey game. I don't listen to the Herd much anymore, but I would have assumed that he'd be in favor of pro sports in Vegas.
  9. Concacaf was fine until the last two results for the US and Mexico, which were both among the worst 5% of possible results in those games. I'm not sure how much more was expected. Mexicans suck at sports and the US will always be an underdog against at least a couple South American teams even if we reach our full potential as a soccer playing nation. I thought that type of call was associated with Latin America? If a US commentator is doing it he's just copying their tradition.
  10. Scott Adams with the most scorching of hot takes. My face is burnt just from looking at it on my computer screen. http://blog.dilbert.com/post/146307088451/why-gun-control-cant-be-solved-in-the-usa Why Gun Control Can’t Be Solved in the USAPosted June 22nd, 2016 @ 9:17am in #Trump #clinton2016 On average, Democrats (that’s my team*) use guns for shooting the innocent. We call that crime. On average, Republicans use guns for sporting purposes and self-defense. If you don’t believe me, you can check the statistics on the Internet that don’t exist. At least I couldn’t find any that looked credible. But we do know that race and poverty are correlated. And we know that poverty and crime are correlated. And we know that race and political affiliation are correlated. Therefore, my team (Clinton) is more likely to use guns to shoot innocent people, whereas the other team (Trump) is more likely to use guns for sporting and defense. That’s a gross generalization. Obviously. Your town might be totally different. So it seems to me that gun control can’t be solved because Democrats are using guns to kill each other – and want it to stop – whereas Republicans are using guns to defend against Democrats. Psychologically, those are different risk profiles. And you can’t reconcile those interests, except on the margins. For example, both sides might agree that rocket launchers are a step too far. But Democrats are unlikely to talk Republicans out of gun ownership because it comes off as “Put down your gun so I can shoot you.†Let’s all take a deep breath and shake off the mental discomfort I just induced in half of my readers. You can quibble with my unsupported assumptions about gun use, but keep in mind that my point is about psychology and about big group averages. If Republicans think they need guns to protect against Democrats, that’s their reality. And if Democrats believe guns make the world more dangerous for themselves, that is their reality. And they can both be right. Your risk profile is different from mine. So let’s stop acting as if there is something like “common sense†gun control to be had if we all act reasonably. That’s not an option in this case because we all have different risk profiles when it comes to guns. My gun probably makes me safer, but perhaps yours makes you less safe. You can’t reconcile those interests. Our situation in the United States is that people with different risk profiles are voting for their self-interests as they see it. There is no compromise to be had in this situation unless you brainwash one side or the other to see their self-interest differently. And I don’t see anyone with persuasion skills trying to do that on either side. Fear always beats reason. So as long as Democrats are mostly using guns to shoot innocent people (intentionally or accidentally) and Republicans are mostly using guns for sport or self-defense, no compromise can be had. If we had a real government – the kind that works – we would acknowledge that gun violence is not one big problem with one big solution. It is millions of people with different risk profiles voting their self-interest as they see it. So stop acting like one side is stupid. Both sides of the gun issue are scared, and both have legitimate reasons to be that way. Neither side is “right.†—
  11. This fuckin Mexican guy they've had on the pregame / halftime show just picked Argentina after a big speech about how long he's lived in the US and how happy he is here. He said his heart is with Argentina and he's rooting for them. Deport him.
  12. Chris Wondolowski is starting with Bobby Wood out on yellows. Haha. Jurgen has used this whole tournament to troll the USA soccer nerds. For those that don't remember, Wondo missed a wide open goal in the 91st minute during the knockout rounds against Belgium. Wondo's the type that's good enough to be the best guy on a 2nd level MLS team that doesn't attract the top level DPs. He's a goal vulture. What made the last World Cup worse is that he was the last guy picked and chosen over Landon Donovan who would have played the late sub goal vulture role if Jurgen didn't hate him personally. The soccer nerds have been begging all tournament for Christian Pulisic who's a 17 year old who made his debut for Borussia Dortmund last year. I'm not gonna pretend to know anything about a guy who's been in the youth system of Germany, but I've seen enough of USA soccer nerds hyping up the next big thing only for him to suck. Good on Wondo getting a chance to make a new legacy beyond one of the great all time sport's boners.
  13.
