County vs Killie, 20/08/22
The Great Stagsby replied to Sensible Soccer🏴's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
Considering we scored 1 goal for every 10 minutes we were a man down, I expect the Killie fans are secretly pretty relieved Callachan wasn’t sent off earlier. -
What is the most important position?
The Great Stagsby replied to Sortmeout's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
I think if we pull everyone’s thoughts on this together nobody’s going to argue with the suggestion that the absolute ideal would be a totally reliable (between the sticks) goalkeeper who also chips in with 15-20 goals per season at the other end…? -
County vs Killie, 20/08/22
The Great Stagsby replied to Sensible Soccer🏴's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
After a couple of encouraging but ultimately fruitless performances against two of the top teams, followed by a dismal showing against one of the more beatable teams in the league, we really need to take something out of this to avoid too much negative momentum and battered confidence. That's a rut we don't want to be in. Bare minimum a point required tomorrow to avoid that. Get all 3 and I think the first 3 games fade into relative insignificance. -
I can’t comment on the game itself, the over all balance of play and whether or not the result might have been harsh on Alloa… but it sounds odd (to me anyway) suggesting County only secured the win in the 94th minute, considering we were ahead from the 18th and kept a clean sheet.

The General Ross County Chat Thread

This has just come up elsewhere as a reminder from 5 years ago. Apparently, we had a bad season - glad to say this is my abiding memory from it, not the bad stuff! -
I've had a quick look at the form table and predicted results for the last 3 rounds and it leaves me with a table looking like this at the split: 4th Livi 43 5th Hibs 41 6th County 40 7th-10th Dundee United, Motherwell, St Mirren and Aberdeen each with 39 points. I certainly think the last 3 fixtures are a big ask for County, but we are one of THE form teams from Hearts down and Aberdeen are one of the worst. I feel a bit like we're "due something" against Hearts, and at home we have a chance. 4 points from those 2 without taking anything from Celtic (never say never wish us against them though!) might see us clinch top 6.
-
…who do you think would win? Personally, I would like Ross County to win - and I would dare to suggest we are probably due such a result against Livi. They continue to pull some cracking results out the bag, though, so it wont be straightforward. A tough one to call, but call it I will. 7-3 County (or thereabouts).

Dundee 0 v Ross County ? - 5/2/22

It’s spelled touché. -
I wasn’t sure whether to put this in the terrible journalism, General Ross County chat or Arbroath thread, kind of fits all 3. Amazing result tonight… if I’d known they were playing in Dingwall, I’d have gone along…

And yet, still too much. -
As the County faithful know by now, how the team do depends an awful lot on whether or not I am there and whether or not I get hospitality. (2.33 points per game when both those boxes ticked; 0.6 points per game when I’m not there at all). All is in order for this one, so let’s say 4-1 County, RCC with at least a couple of them. BRING IT. *Please forgive the grammar in the title. When my dog woke me at 1:30am, it suddenly came to mind that I got it wrong. My instinct is to correct it, but I feel equally strongly that the original version is significantly more aesthetically pleasing, so I’m going to leave it as it is.

I may be missing something… are you suggesting that somebody using a spare ticket to take their mate to a game is somehow an example of an absence of financial fair play…?! -

Do you ever pay in to a game? Between 1995 and 2020 I paid to attend 346 games, from which we took a total of 72 points. This new system is better. -

Well, well!* independently of the P&B community, and without any chasing on my part (honest), the call we’ve all been waiting for came in this morning: I’ve been invited to hospitality. I now fully expect County to take at least 2 points from this fixture. *No pun intended. -
Thanks to friends with spare tickets, I have made it along to 4 games at the Global Energy stadium so far this season, and I will be there again for this one. When hospitality has been included, we have picked up a mightily impressive 4 points from 2 games. Without hospitality, a measly 3 points from 2 games. So forget your team selection, tactics, thoughts on the opposition, etc… the key question ahead of this one is: Who’s buying me dinner?

Declan Drysdale, central defender signs on loan from Coventry City. ETA reading more, I think his full name might actually be “Declan on loan from Coventry City Drysdale”, as that is the story of his last couple of seasons, always to (often significantly) lower leagues in England. 22 years old. Hopefully he does well for us…?? Also lifting of restrictions on outdoor events is apparently likely, which would definitely be welcome. -
It really doesn’t seem that long ago that fans across the country (including our own) were, for weeks on end, pretty fairly asking the question of whether Regan Charles-Cook had ever actually seen a football before. A fine finish yesterday, oozing confidence and composure. His rise to stardom has almost been as remarkable as St Johnstone’s fall from grace.

Don't see a match thread for this yet... redirect me if I've missed something. The most important statistic of the season to date, is that in the 3 games which I have made it along to, Ross County have picked up 7 points. I WILL ALSO BE AT THIS ONE, so I fully expect us to take at least 2.33 points from the game, thus extending our good run of form and our progression up the table towards safe mid-table mediocrity. (If any fellow Staggies wish to fund my attendance at the rest of the season's games, there may yet be a chance we can push for Europe.)
