Fantastic run Lanark are on. I wonder if the success of the management team will make other clubs look at the amateur ranks for options in the future?

Would be a surprise if Cupar didn't win it from here.

1 Team in the East Cup Final
1 Team in the West Cup Final with another playing in the Semi Final
2 Teams in the last 8 of the Scottish
The League select winning 16 v 0 last weekend
so you post is just another negative comment about the SPAFA
So let me balance your negativety
your beloved Cally have only 1 team left in all the nationals / district Cups
which make the decision for those teams to move Leagues even more bewildering considering the reasons given
A couple of good teams doesn't make a great "league". There is also an element of luck in cup runs - there's still a Greater Glasgow Team in the later stages of the nationals.
The Titanic is sinking but you're still trying to shuffle the deck chairs mate.

It's a shame to see what was the best league in Scotland a couple of years ago now essentially disintegrate into a Youth league.

The reason the defence is a problem is that ever since the Club started in the Lowland League, we have never ever had defensive midfield players able to protect the back 4/3. I have been at 99% of the games, I know what I have seen.
The idea we can just outplay teams is a fine conceit , when it works, great, when like today it doesn't, gubbed.
We 100% need to add will to win , as well as pretty pretty football. If we do we will be in L 2, if not probably not.
There are no guarantees in football or set way of playing/formation/style of player that guarantees success. If there was, everybody would be doing it.
The reality is what Mick and Si are doing has consistently brought great results this season with blips like yesterday attracting negativity being a victim of their own success so far.
The playoffs won't be easy but EK have every chance.

Are there any noises around interested amateur clubs stepping up?

It was a surprise to see Garrowhill beat Drum Utd so comfortably as well.

Castlemilk OBC into the morning setup would be wild.
The way the wind is blowing we will be left with The Caley as the only decent afternoon set up.

A smart move imo....
Are there any current afternoon clubs who are moving into the new morning set up?

I get the intention of what you're meaning to say, however that's an unfortunate turn of phrase you have used. Ashfield are where they are on merit for their performances and results on the pitch, and have every right to be there amongst the big spending teams around them, as have the likes of Blantyre, Shotts, Glencairn and Petershill.
Indeed.
I tipped them to do well at the start of the season but I thought they would just miss out on promotion but at the moment they will be really fancying their chances. Johnstone Burgh to win it and then it's a lottery after that (for me).

Ashfield manager has done some job on the budget they have. They have no right to be in the mix against a lot of big spending teams around them.

I actually think it looks very open and a lot of teams will fancy their chances.
Castlemilk are favourites but not unbeatable.
Drumchapel United are dark horses. Already beat well fancied Annbank in The West Cup a couple of weeks ago they'll fancy their chances again anyone at home.

Castlemilk and Gartcosh surely won't stay in that league now?

The Greater Glasgow has also started up a Morning League for next season. It will be interesting to see how many of the current (afternoon) teams if any decide to move into the morning set up?

Will the SPAFA fold or try again next season? They're essentially becoming the Greater Glasgow League (with less teams) in real time.

What a job Daryl has done at Lanark. Have a good chance of actually winning the league.
Would be some achievement from the position they were in when he took the job.

The issue is that by preserving their own league they are only hastening the demise of Saturday afternoon football. Even with these two additions they are only at a status quo compared to the beginning of the season in terms of total clubs. Merging, with teams of a similar standard all playing each other would have given the whole amateur scene a potentially much brighter outlook. Circling the wagons from the caley (which has for more years than I can remember deservedly been lauded as a superbly ran league) is only delaying the inevitable I fear
Agreed.
The teams moving to The Caley does not address the fundamental issues of why Saturday Afternoon Football is struggling.

Got to win them though, & still six points back if they do. Just can't see it getting interesting. Hope I'm proved wrong though.
Tranet seem to be a bit of a bogey team for Mick. You'd fancy them to take something off EK but they aren't as consistent as EK against the other teams.
League will be over if EK beat Tranet when they play.

SPAFA is finished.
The Greater Glasgow has brought in a Morning League for next season also.
I think very soon the only afternoon amateur league left will be The Caley.

If that's the case you struggle to see how the SPAFA can survive?

St Pats and Campsie Minerva joining The Caley.

Notre Dame the eighth. The league is still going strong with 68 clubs so not facing challenges quite as big as the Saturday afternoon leagues.
I can see them in the Development Section of the SMAFA? Looks like they have moved leagues. Makes sense as they were getting hammered every week.

Yeah I don't think it was a big enough step up. Not much upside joining Clyde just now looking at where they are and the work needing done.
If he runs away with the LL and wins the playoff for EK he will be in the running for League 1 and Championship jobs in all likelihood.

The Ashfield Gaffer came from Harestanes.
Kennedy at St Rochs from West Park.
Hopes at Drumchapel from Possil YM.
Obviously Mick at Darvel and now EK.
Daryl at Lanark.
They've all had differing levels of success but successful in their own right.
