I agree with you, but I’m not one for trying to belittle clubs based on their finances, everyone works hard to keep their respective clubs going.

I am not sure what the solution is with this, something needs to give somewhere.

The point I guess I was trying to make is that clubs paying only expenses will get replaced by clubs that have budgets more in line with what tier 4/5 would naturally pay and the more promotion/relegation places there are, the quicker CSS, Gala, Gretna, Vale, Edinburgh Univ, Caley Braves, Stirling Univ etc will get replaced. Put in the likes of Darvel, Talbot, Pollok, Tranent, Linlithgow etc the expenses only clubs will struggle to outmuscle them. I know there are clubs who are punching in LL and that's brilliant. But increased competition will make it difficult for them. Status quo keeps the inevitable another few years down the road.

  2. Utterly predictable - but when half the league don't pay anything other than expenses, can they be blamed for trying to stay relevant at Tier 5 a wee while longer? That said, hope the next big Scottish draw for one of them is away to Golspie on a Monday night.

I remember speaking to Billy at Keppoch Park during a U16/17? game in which his local Possil YM was involved, and him remarking that he wouldn't mind signing the boy with the ginger hair playing up front for the opposing side for his Perthshire team. The boy was Stephen Pearson who will be 40 later this year,so Billy has been there for at least 23 years, and likely longer.

To add to that, documented evidence he was in charge of Shire in 2000-01:

  4. Despite Pollok's success this year, we have needed to call upon the 20s on occasion with the following all having made appearances from the bench:  Thomas Haggarty, Kamil Krol and Jack Grimshaw. Kieran Davis, Tiger Lawson, Keelan Braonan and Ross Shaw have also been on the bench.  We also have two first team regulars eligible for the 20s in Matty Grant and Jonny Lyon, while Jordan Moore played for both before moving on to Cumnock. Seems to be working at Lok at least. We are using our U19 SYFA side to pad out the numbers in the 20s when needed and have signed direct from it since the season started (Miguel Kamgna Jr for one).

Was there not a Bearsden club who were supposed to be appearing in Division 4 this year but had to pull put due to being unable to find an adequate ground?

Westerton United. The story iirc was they thought they had secured a ground share but then circumstances changed. Zero idea who the proposed share was with.

    Glasgow Uni I think?

Bearsden would be a non-starter for identical reasons as I described above with Jordanhill...those leafy established middle class areas can mobilise and organise very effectively when there's a proposed development they don't agree with. The area's happy enough to have West of Scotland play rugby there and tolerate Milngavie Wanderers playing up at Staney Brig in the middle of nowhere, but I'd imagine even a small actual football stadium being planned in the area would have the various residents' committees and so on lose their collective shit.

Strange.  Superleagues started in August 2002, before Pie & Bovril even existed, and I didn't discover this place until something like 2008 or 2009.......I'm not even sure the old email groups existed then either.

the email group was on the go late 90s.

That should be the decision of the clubs, if they have capable 2002 and 2003 players who are ready and show real potential, the clubs can use their own discretion as to how best and quickly to develop them.  The weakest of weak arguments from a completely out of touch SFA.

I also notice Benburb are seeking answers to why players born in 2000 can still play in SYFA U-21’s when they are in fact U-22.  Seems a real anomaly and a question they deserve a proper answer to.

21s has always been like that though and is effectively 21 and under. A leftover from when it was Juvenile? There was an U25 Juvenile (secondary juvenile or something? Sure one ran til quite recent times in central belt)
