  1. I have heard it said the walls for a seated stand were marked out on the terracing opposite the enclosure some time ago and I would like to see it there - I am sure it will happen one day. Keep the enclosure as it is.

Capacity wise, looking at the Montrose game from 2007, our biggest crowd in recent history, there is room beyond the 2000 that were there that day - but not sure the enclosure would get an official capacity that was especially high nowadays without added safety features. Again, I am sure these are in hand. It's great to see the ground really kick on from where it was. Also sad that we have lost some great people who did so much for the club and did not live to see it.

Very true, lot of panties getting wetted over nothing 😃

Think it's more the farce of denying promotion to long-standing clubs because of the absolute circus the LL has become, allowing this sort of nonsense - BSC's licence for a start. Get your own ground in your own town and find some fans. Then apply.

Is there beef between the podcasts? I'd also never heard of Open Goal but have listened to the Terrace a couple of times. Could the Terrace lads take over The Caledonia Braves for a Podcast Derby?

Wonder what's the most hipster non-league club out there for them?

  4. Anyway, congratulations to Broomhill Sports Club sorry BSC Glasgow sorry Broomhill sorry Open Goal Broomhill for making Chris Ewings' shower look less tinpot than you. And to the Lowland League, what a bunch of relegation-feart chancers you are.

  5. The West of Scotland League and South of Scotland League (for all its history) might be better off being under one roof - also simplifies the play off. This isn't new thinking but some sort of regionalisation of the very bottom tier(s) would allow for that. St Cuthbert - who already use Lanarkshire-based players - and Threave on field are roughly on a par with those clubs in the new Division One and could work their way up over a few years, the others more comfortable at the level of Lanark/Lugar etc.

OK, you win, let's call it a miracle and I look forward to watching the film........

The only players with any predigree at either Premier or Championship level are Fyvie (sorry, omitted accidently), Logan, Megginson, Reynolds and Vigurs. Could add Draper as well but he has barely featured this season for them.

  7. Absolute end of an era - been listening to Sportsound since the mid/late 80s and remember his predecessor Derek Rae taking flight to the USA in'94 opening up the hotseat for RG to take over. Met him a few times over the years and a good guy - can only wish him all the best for the future but on personal note, sad he won't be the sound of satudays any more.

Apologies if this isn't the right thread for this question, but it's something that has been fascinating me more and more since I started following non-league fitba. Do you think Scotland is the only European nation that has all of these decent teams that are tucked away in the lower reaches who could cruise up three or four levels quite comfortably as we are now seeing with Cove and Kelty? I grew up down south and now live in the US so never really learned much about lower league fitba, only really following the Shire as they meandered their way ever downwards (my Dad and his Dad were both Shire fans). Now I see teams that are ostensibly lower in the pyramid pecking order but are a lot stronger than most Tier 5 clubs - BoD being the latest team to ascend and who would bet against them winning the HL next year?

I've also become more familiar with English non-league now that my local team down there, Southend has slipped into oblivion. There's nobody in the lower reaches there who you would fancy to sweep through a few divisions. I don't believe there's another nation in Europe quite like Scotland in this respect, so what is it about the Scottish scene that fostered such strong junior/amateur clubs who were capable of beating professionals? Any insight on this would be much appreciated.

Simple answer is there was no pyramid until the last decade, with the bulk of the Juniors only on board in past few seasons, and non-league was split between Junior and non-league Senior, with the Junior clubs being from predominantly populated areas and the non-league Senior clubs (Edinburgh area excepted) being from rural areas and simple force of population meant Junior sides were stronger as there were more players and fewer part-time options for guys from Ayrshire/Lothians/Glasgow in the national leagues. A lot of the Junior clubs formed after the Scottish League was created so have been outside-looking-in from the start. Then again, the first 50 years of the Scottish League was so tumultous, there are Junior clubs that played at national Senior level originally either as original or follow on clubs.

    TL;DR evolution in isolation.

    In my opinion!

With those prices it’s the equivalent of an L2 side getting 300.

Good to see that you have got the lights in.

without massively derailing the thread, it also has to be considered that there was no substantial club income from  April 2020 until Jul 2021 due to the shutdown. The club have done their best at this stage and there's still things that can be done but it's all off our own back as opposed to help from council or from a ground byout etc.. on topic, will be interesting to see where Clyde settle in Glasgow.

Excellent about the floodlights. The pre-portakabin "toilets" are a bit embarrassing for a club getting 600 plus every week.

It will be all that was in the budget and I am sure will be upgraded in time. For all the crowd sizes, £7 / £4 doesn't exactly rake it in at the gate. The improvements drastically improve Newlandsfield from where it was at the turn of the year.

Pollok have no seats or floodlights, no car park and recently brought in a portable toilet as their facilities consisted of pissing behind the covered enclosure. Really poor considering their crowds.   Essentially they've invested nothing in the way of improvement to their ground for yonks and this will hold them back if they want to follow the likes of Bonnyrigg up the pyramid. I believe they have plans for floodlights and their pie stall is absolutely outstanding. But that's it.

The toilets are licence compliant whatever your view on them.

    As for no lights...
