  1. Almost impossible this... In no order: World Leader Pretend Harborcoat Find The River Country Feedback Sing For The Submarine Doing this again, I'd probably put either Losing My Religion or Man On The Moon in place of SFTS.
  2. Felt Episode 4 really picked up. Really enjoyed it. Even Jack Docherty didn't annoy me as much.
  3. All of Jack Docherty's scenes are dreadful. The pomposity of the character is a joke that goes flat after one outing each episode. More of fat cheffie from Gary Tank Commander!
  4. Yeah proximity to Loch Lomond is a good thing about that area but they just seem to have made a meal of it post WW2.
  5. Obviously a wide variety of suggestions for this depending on the criteria. I'll defend poor wee Newton though. Nice location, decent enough range of local shops, scenic location. A few too many boy racers though. I'll also leap to the defence of Lochgilphead seeing as I live here. Beautiful location, even more so when the tide's in. Plenty of services for locals, a few good pubs. Ok, housing's not wonderfully diverse within the town but there are some really nice streets. Dumps I've seen on my travels with few redeeming qualities: Peterhead, Crosshill, Patna, Dalmellington, Tullibody, Salsburgh, Forth, Fauldhouse, the whole Alexandria area (inc. Jamestown and Renton), Port Glasgow, Knockentiber and Muirkirk - it's got a totem pole at one end!
  6. Having been here since 2010, it's a great wee town. Aye it's pish when the mist rolls in but where in't?
  7. Front page news in Lochgilphead this week are the raids carried out across Mid Argyll on seven Indian takeaways, leading to 15 'illegals' from Bangladesh being detained by immigration authorities ahead of their deportation. All three Indian takeaways in the Lochgilphead / Ardrishaig area were hit, as well as those in Tarbert, Inveraray and the two on Islay. With a fine of up to £10,000 per illegal worker pending, I can't see a happy ending. Never made it to the one in Inveraray but they have, it seemed, closed down after 3 men were carted off. One of the Lochgilphead ones had a note in the window stating that for 'some reasons' they'd be shut until Tuesday... Which Tuesday remains to be seen. http://www.argyllshireadvertiser.co.uk/2014/05/16/immigration-officers-swoop-on-mid-argyll-restaurants/
  8. But they'll likely structure it by saying "what were you on at Sunderland? We'll better it!"
  9. Terpstra goes long to win! Wiggo and Thomas pull off a wee surprise by finishing top ten.
  10. So, who can beat Cancellara today? I'm thinking someone from OmegaPharma - Quick-step can do something... you can argue the case for a number of their squad. Boonen's been there or thereabouts in most of the other classics, winning K-B-K. Terpstra and Vandenbergh will both have to go long as I''d fancy Spartacus to beat them in a sprint. Stybar has so much power - his clinching of the cyclocross worlds title in January was awesome - he could be a good shout. I don't think Sagan will be in the final group. Vanmarke was outsmarted in the velodrome last year but I'd fancy him to be up there again. If Van Avermaet makes the final group, he won't win!
  11. Great to see the new site making progress!
  12. George speaks... he's written story treatments for 7, 8 and 9 that will be worked on for future release, starting 2015.
  13. Can't help but think this could be a series of turkeys. I did like the prequels though. So what do I know
  14. You'd have to go along to find out. Having been to a fair chunk of West Junior grounds, I've not really felt I was at a 'mini Rangers love-in' anywhere really, perhaps Cambuslang excepted as they play in the same colours and have a Rangers-inspired crest. I guess there are towns where Rangers have a strong support, but the guys that run Irvine Meadow are big Celtic fans (I think they advertise a Celtic bus on the ad boards? Could be wrong but heard that). team in blue & white doesn't necessarily = mini Gers. The one club I'd definitely say is not a mini rangers love-in is Pollok. I say that because I know the club really well. Yeah, there will be some Lok/Gers fans on the terraces, but there are also Lok/Celts as well as fans of other SPL teams, even the odd Partick fan. But a good number have Lok as their only team, either because they were from Third Lanark families or because they fell away from the Gruesome Twoesome. A big game at Newlandsfield is a cracking bigot-free day out, crowd in high hundreds if you pick the right game, and if you're on the train you can have a few drinks before and after. I've brought a few guys along from this part of the world and one has seen the lower leagues with another team and rates the Newlandsfield social experience as second only to one other. It's not the greatest Pollok team of all time but it is still a good day out. http://www.pollokfc.com/
  15. Black and white scarves for the close-ups supplied by Pollok FC's club shop, can't remember why though!
  16. Forgive any inaccuracies in this but... rulebooks have been re-written in the time since, but way back in 1995 Shotts Bon Accord were suspended from Scottish football after falling foul of the 'beaks' over court action. The problem arose after a minor cup tie caused Shotts selection problems because of a flu outbreak. Doctors lines were produced for a number of players to get the game postponed, but on investigation by the SJFA one line turned out to be unsupported by a player when asked. As a result, the club were kicked out of the cup. The cup was not completed that year as Shotts went to the Court of Session twice to get themselves reinstated to it. As punishment for taking matters to court, Shotts were suspended indefinitely from football... [it even made it to Parliament where a few well known names added their support to the SBA cause:] http://www.parliament.uk/business/publications/business-papers/commons/early-day-motions/edm-detail1/?session=1994-95&edmnumber=1343&orderby=Party&orderdirection=Asc ...though ended up coming back after a year for season 1996-97. They had been a top division side in the Central Juniors, but came in at the bottom level, though under new manager Rab Sneddon they then won all three divisions back to back. In terms of their players, some played elsewhere for a year, others never returned.
  17. I only saw Tom Johnstone and Cumnock secretary George Morton? What was Ogilvie doing?
  18. Names in Scottish football aren't exactly helpful or enlightening. Players can get paid to play in SPL and SFL, as well as Highland, East of Scotland, South of Scotland and the Juniors. These leagues therefore all permit 'Professional' football (i.e. paid to play). It's illegal to take a performance-related payment or bonus in Welfare, Youth or Amateur (Sat/Sun). However: the SPL, SFL and Highland leagues are all now part of the Professional Board of football, the other leagues all part of the Non Professional Board. It's an interesting enough reshuffle as it perhaps points to a long-game of a pyramid (with a new 'south' or Lowland division to be made for the Professional board) and the respective standards of leagues outwith as times goes on. A Rangers NewCo in the Lowland division might accelerate the pyramid...
  19. I don't know what you're suggesting in that first sentence (edit: I was saying I pay the taxman the best part of 10k a year). Anyway, it wasn't that serious a point btw other than I lose what amounts to a week's wages to the taxman every month, but such is the life of us as taxpayers. I hope the tax cheats GIRUT.
  20. I seem to lose the best part of 10k a year in tax and NI... I wonder if my employer could give me a monthly discretionary payment instead?
  21. Was it not a condition of sale that he pay off the bank debt? It's not much of a leap to say the price of buying Rangers wherefore was £1 + the debt to the bank.
