The Partick Thistle thread
Bishop Briggs replied to South Lanarkshire Jag's topic in Scottish Championship General Chatter
Should be back-ups/cover rather than first-choice. It's possible that Lawless could be a playmaker rather than a winger. We will need a right winger with pace and a good cross. And it will be McMillan's second spell with us too. -
Sky Sports News reports that Chelsea have exercise the option to extend Gilmour's contract until 2024.

Pochettino to leave PSG - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/61778508 "Zinedine Zidane, Jose Mourinho and Nice coach Christophe Galtier are among those linked with replacing Pochettino." They deserve Mourinho at his belligerent and divisive worst.

Ryan Giggs, 48, led Wales to Euro 2020 and could be available within the next year..... If we have "the stones" to appoint another foreign manager, Laurent Blanc is another free agent. He took France to the QFs of the Euros. Other countries, e.g. Belgium and Turkey, have foreign managers.

Our large fee from Norwich for Fitzpatrick can't be far behind. -
So it's managers who gave taken British or Irish national teams to WC or Euro finals? There are a few others who could be added to your bizarre shortlist, e.g. Mick McCarthy, Martin O'Neill, Roy Hodgson, Glen Hoddle, Kevin Keegan... We could get a foreign manager with a good track record if the salary is attractive. Joachim Low is currently a free agent and wants to return to management.

There are many players who have successfully moved from Portuguese clubs to the EPL, notably Ronaldo, and other top European leagues. Wolves have recruited several Portuguese players and players from clubs in the country. They sold Jota to Liverpool for a large profit. Luis Diaz looks good value at £42m in today's inflated transfer market. Liverpool will have scouted Nunez extensively and only pay top dollar for players that they really want . Given Man United's dreadful recruitment in recent years, e.g. Dalot, I would view such a statement with huge scepticism.

The Big Queen's Park FC Thread
Bishop Briggs replied to Dave's topic in Scottish Championship General Chatter
Our level has dropped considerably in recent years. The last time that we filled Firhill was against Morton when we were fighting them for promotion to the Premiership. It's too big for a club of our size and needs major repairs as well as the new pitch. With no more Weir money to bail us out, we can't afford to overspend on wages. Consolidation in the Championship should be Spiders' objective this and next season. The new Lesser Hampden should be cheaper to maintain than Firhill so they should be able to offer competitive wages. IIRC there were rumours that we were looking at Thomas too. -

One season in a QOS team that was relegated to League One. I'd offer them Cammy Smith and that's being generous. -

It should be much less than what we will want for Rudden. There has been announcement of Zac signing a permanent deal at Dens. Presumably, we still hold his registration. IIRC International caps, including U21 and U19 levels, are reflected in the tribunal's valuations. They should not affect what you would get from us for Fitzpatrick if we sign him without a figure being agreed. -

Not sure about that. Agreed. Still got a gut feeling that Rudden could be back at Firhill next season. No evidence other than the thought that Bowyer will want the freedom to build the squad that he wants. -
Matt Targett has signed a permanent deal with Newcastle United. Aston Villa got £12 million on top of the £3 million loan fee. Fraser Forster has signed for Spurs on a free from Southampton. IIRC McCarthy and Caballero are also out of contract....

Follow Follow Rangers. Season 2023/24

Glasgow Rangers? They are dead like Gretna. It should be The Rangers FC or whatever name Green gave to Sevco. You can buy a club's assets but not its history and titles. -

The rebels won't risk a GE by voting against the Government in a Commons vote of confidence. -

Interesting comment by Paul Goodman, a former MP and Telegraph journalist, on Conservative Home - https://www.conservativehome.com/thetorydiary/2022/06/result-211-conservative-mps-have-confidence-on-johnson-and-148-do-not-have-confidence-in-johnson.html "the payroll vote is apparently “between 160 and 170 MPs”. Not all of it will have voted for the Prime Minister. But had it done so, he would have won, on these figures, some 40 out of 195 backbenchers. "The only reasonable conclusion one can reach is either a) that the vast bulk of those undeclared MPs voted against the Prime Minister or b) a significant of his payroll and declared supporters did so. I suspect a mix of both." Unlike him, I think that Johnson has to go now but he is a stubborn megalomaniac and will try to hang on. With so many backbenchers against him, the Whips will have an impossible job. -
It's typical of the shite that you'll get on Jools Holland's "Later" or "Hootenanny" on Hogmanay.

Listen Records? They sold more than just records and t-shirts. I was a regular customer in Renfield Street, especially in the basement. My university mate owned a Chinese restaurant only a few yards away. We went there after lectures for free curry and beers.. Such happy memories!

That has to be one of the most iconic and rebellious songs ever. It hasn't dated a bit.

So who watched the Platinum Jubilee concert last night and, politics aside, what did you think of it? The visual effects were stunning. My personal highlights were Elbow, Andrea Bocelli and Sir Elton John. Sam Ryder has a great voice and lots of potential. Adam Lambert's (Queen) and George Ezra's vocals were much weaker than expected. MO Sir Rod Stewart's "singing" was dreadful and should have chosen better songs. Similarly, Simon Le Bon was shouting tunelessly. Diana Ross, who put on a better show, seemed to be miming at times. Overall, it lacked excitement and dynamism. I was hoping for Ed Sheeran, Adele, The Pet Shop Boys, Paul Heaton (unrealistic tbh), Noel/Liam Gallagher or even AC/DC. Be honest!

Are you suggesting that the Scottish Government nationalises broadband? I would not wish to return to the days when the old GPO took months to change numbers, install new lines etc. There is a strong case for devolved regulation to ensure that improvements are delivered on time at an affordable cost.
-
I've got 9 months left on my broadband/TV/Sport contract which would cost over £500 to get out of. After that, I will leave. This year's 10% price rise was the last straw. BT used to offer decent renegotiation terms after a year or so. BT Sport's merger with Warner Discovery/Eurosport could be big factor in their inflexibility. If I could, I'd drop BT Sport and go for a Sky and Eurosport package. It's an issue that deserves a separate thread. ETA - I hate paying for Crocker's shit too!

The Pie and Bovril Dead Pool 2022
Bishop Briggs replied to Miguel Sanchez's topic in The General Nonsense Forum
Such a shame. Any relation to the Screaming Lord of Raving Loony fame? -
It really did. Rip-off BT won't replace it or my Youview box which does not have even basic wifi. Both freeze regularly which is very annoying in the middle of a match. They take 5 minutes to reboot and reconnect.
-
I didn't steal anything as it was the obvious retort. My old BT router went on the blink when I clicked on the submit button, hence the slight delay. There's probably a wee joke in there too.
