  1. Why do we have to do this? Mortifying.

Whilst i'm happy that we might have found a half decent solution to the GK problem, folk don't half get carried away.  He's a standard championship level keeper - better than what we have in his age range for sure, but if there was even a tiny chance of an England call up (never mind being their number one ffs) he wouldn't consider us. I'm fine with that - If he's good for us i'm not arsed.

Also i'm guessing 'ah but he's got Krul in front of him!' is the new 'Caicedo was meant to be leaving'.

  2. Lot of folk getting wound up as if this is the publisher giving into a ferocious campaign from young lefty latte lefty luvvies organising book burning protests due to his books containing the term 'fat' in them, and if you look at reports it's been made to seem that way - like 95% of these 'the wokes are at it again' stories.

It's a decision made by his estate in an attempt to keep them commercially viable, there's nout else to it other than a fairly boring, nothing story. Certainly nothing to get worked into a shoot over. Worlds goin mad tho, whats it coming to!!'

  3. That might be one of the best ever, in the modern era for sure at least. An absolute beauty.

Will it just be a one off for the England game? With us just having released a new kit, or are we due one for the new campaign anyway?

  4. I think Ange will be away within the next year or so, maybe the end of next season if we're lucky.

Could see him wanting another crack at the CL, but he's made a few comments - particularly recently when talking about Juranovic rightly taking the opportunity to go to go as far as he can, that suggest he's of a similar mindset. He's 58 this year, if a decent club in England wanted to speak to him i think he'd at least consider it. An element of our support have a fairly outdated view when it comes to things like this and scoff when our players/managers are linked with Brentford, Brighton etc before banging on about stadium size, trophies etc but in reality those things mean very little when the chance to manage in the biggest and best, most lucrative (both financially and career wise) league in the world is on the table.

I don't think he'd leave in the middle of a season the way Rodgers did, but he left Yokohama mid-season to take the Celtic job so you never know. I wouldn't begrudge him in trying to go as far as he could.

Back in the day, plenty of people posted similar views on Hillsborough on this very forum.

I have literally never met anyone who has ever said anything like that about Hillsborough in real life but for a certain type of poster, a certain age and disposition perhaps, it was almost received wisdom. The thread for the recent Champions League final where there were crowd management issues with Liverpool featured plenty of posters on here saying that it eas all bullshit, it was all Liverpool fans fault, same old Scousers. Not much said subsequently when reports into the matter blamed the trouble entirely on the French authorities. 🤷‍♂️

Lot of patter i'd never expect to see on here in that thread, was taken aback by it. Pure Kelvin McKenzie rhetoric, which really showed me how much that stuff had seeped through.

He has more top flight league games than almost all of his peers as a premier league central midfielder (only Jacob Ramsey has more in his age group).

He gets criticised whenever he plays now, and whenever he doesn't. I saw a report that put his Brighton salary as one of the higher ones in the squad, and they clearly trust to come on in important games.

His career will almost certainly be a success in the top flight, England or abroad. Some of the self hating Scots will continue to find this hard to accept, but c'est la vie. He isn't likely to become a world class player, he could, but a good top flight player looks more likely at this stage.

I’ll take your word for that, but there are a fair few 2001 born players in the Premier League with almost or even more than double his appearances who are established starters now. I think he’s past the stage where not playing much isn't a concern.

The second bit was more my point. I still expect him to forge a career for himself in the Premier League, but the flat out refusal to accept that things aren’t really going as we’d hoped for him has been a theme of this thread.

  7. He really hasn't played much football at all for someone his age, i know folk will jump to make excuses for that but aye.

Not going to make any definitive statement on his career, but we maybe all just got a wee bit excited when he came through, as he was by some distance the best technical youngster we'd produced in ages. I still think he'll establish himself as a good PL player and be one of our main men for years to come, but the world class hype (which i indulged in) was in hindsight based on a tiny sample of games. When you look at a genuine world class talent like Bellingham for example there's no 'ach he got unlucky with the change of manager/he's not been given a chance/the fans who watch him every week and don't rate him don't know what they're talking about' stuff - he's so ludicrously good that he's (obviously) the first pick every week and dominates games at the top level consistently.

Still think we have a great player on our hands mind, and being out of the spotlight may be a good thing for him, but for both his and our sake he really needs to start playing regular football soon.
