  1. Gretna were members of the EOS Association. They joined the South in June of this year.
  2. A bloody nose for the out of touch high heid yins. I listened to a presentation by Petrie last week. utter pish, poorly conceived and totally unconvincing. Lets hope thos now gets put to bed permanently.
  3. SFA Constitution states votes are taken by a show of hands.
  4. Gretna 2008 have withdrawn from the EOS Association.
  5. A weak response from the manager on BBC Scotland news. He looked like he didn't want to be there.
  6. Daft laddie question guys, is it possible that in the play offs there could be some sort of tie eg on points etc? Struggling to see how it plays to an absolute winner sure somebody can answer for me !
  7. Saints v Heston, rough head count, 100 on a dreich, miserable afternoon!!
  8. I see Davie Irons has resigned as joint manager of Gretna along with Andy Aitken. Does that mean he will be on his way back to Ochilview?
  9. Kevin Harper appointed as manager tonight! Any thoughts? Didn't see that one coming.
  10. There is a grim warning here for 'ambitious' clubs who live for the moment and have no sustainable income generation planning and no financial planning or governance.
  11. Saints v Threave I had a rough headcount because the crowd was particularly poor for a derby match. About 130 excluding club officials etc.
  12. Lots of enthusiasm here for Junior clubs joining the EOS/Pyramid. No one has mentioned the fact that some of these clubs will never actually leave this set up for better things !!
  13. Just been on Junior League Pie and Bovril. Somebody on there suggesting that Wigtown, Creetown and Lochmaben won't be competing next season. Hope there is no basis to this, anybody heard anything substantial?
  14. I suspect the case of Annan and Stranraer might be different with them already members of the SCFA ? Will be 15 clubs again if Threave pull off a miracle a gainst Kelty Hearts !!
  15. Will Shire ever get league status back ?
  16. Gretna and Tarff are good examples of how not to financially sustain football clubs. The money was available over a relatively short term but there was no business plans in place for income generation to ensure robust funding streams were in place. Tarff were founded in 1873 and had the plug pulled eventually due to financial and other issues. I suspect Gretna have onl y risen Phoenix style because they are much closer to populated centres and better road networks.
  17. Sorry, you ain't getting this my friend. The town is remote, very small and is in an area where the demographics point to an ageing population with many youngsters leaving the area. Someone asked what the point is....like junior clubs, SOS clubb almost without exception have very close links with their community and there is a pride associated with playing for your home town I do not understand those who are hell bent on pushing clubs to a point where they are not financially viable.
  18. Holding a book festival for a few days does not equate to running a football club 12 months a year. I need to ask, have you been to Wigtown ? It is nearly 60 miles from Dumfries,, has no industry and has a population of less than 1,000. I think the club has achieved massively in the SOS League in the past few years. Why are people hell bent on insisting that they must have ambition and move into the LOL. Do turkeys vote for Christmas ? Such a move would threaten the very existence of the club.
  19. New Cumnock to any of the EOS clubs is a long way. Nithsdale Wanderers on the D & G / Ayrshire boundary compete in the SOS as does Bonnyton from Kilmarnock. Historically the juniors have preferred regional leagues close to home which paradoxically is why some of the teams are so successful and have large crowds. The financial constraints of running a team from South Ayrshire competing would seem to me to be prohibitive.
  20. In the current set up, Glens would play in the SOS League. I am truly sorry to learn of Wigtown's dilemma. For the past couple of years I have been challenging those who accuse SOS clubs of lacking 'ambition'. Wigtown's current situation highlights how precarious and fragile the league is. I would agree that if an additional feeder league for the west be introduced, this would allow the SOS to step down one tier, effectively taking the pressure off the financial risk of promotion and it's enormous financial pressures. The demographics of Galloway are such that there is an increasingly ageing population resulting in the obvious knock on in terms of players. Wigtownshire is particularly sensitive to any change in team numbers, the entry of Stranraer reserves being an example. I would much rather see the survival of old clubs like Wigtown and Saints in a lower tier than see the clubs go to the wall. The clubs are an inherent part of the community and I would hate to see any go the way of Tarff Rovers, a club which were close to my heart.
  21. Just catching up with what's going on wi' the Lichties...astounded to see who your management and coaching team are...fast forward into the past ?
  22. Who would want to manage Queens ? The club is seeped in opinionated malcontents who have never kicked a ba !!
