It’s an interesting one with Spong. It’s been noted here that he apparently didn’t settle in Glasgow which could be entirely plausible but if you go back a couple weeks, Davidson said in the Raith post match interview that he wanted to see how certain players react to being a sub and it was clearly geared towards Spong. Two weeks later and he’s gone.
Regardless of the reasons as to why he’s away, I’m really sad to see him go. He was an intelligent footballer on the ball who was excellent at winning tackles considering his small stature. He was arguably man of the match just 3 weeks ago against Dunfermline, such a shame it’s ended so soon
This MUST result in some incomings. No teenage loanees with zero first games, I mean guys who have sufficient experience at this level. You cannot release a player of Spong’s quality with 18 months left of his deal to bring in nobody. Is that sending a message to the rest of the squad that no matter your contract length, you can sack it off if you’re not enjoying yourself ?

Getting slightly nervous we’re going to sign nobody this week. Davidson was trying to get a player before the weekend and yet we’ve still heard nothing since?
Club have to back Davidson this week. So much is down to money at this level and if it means paying slightly more than you want to get the right player, please do so

Healy needed a loan if he’s to have a genuine future at the club. Hasn’t been seen on the pitch for weeks now but really hasn’t grabbed his opportunity when it came about early on in the season. It’s a monumental jump from Arthurlie to championship football so there’s no shame in needing a loan early doors. Still has 3 and a half years left on his deal. It’s a cliche saying but there’s a definitely a talented player there but needs to learn the tougher side of the game. I think he’ll do really well there

It’s still absolutely absurd Paton has 16 goals in this team just over half a season in. Regardless if he’s got 2 years left on his deal, surely he’s offski if we’re in league 1 or even if we retain championship status? He’s only 2 goals behind Murray’s total from this point last year. Stick him in a United/Raith/thistle and he’s probably on 20 goals.

Wasn’t able to make the game yesterday but that’s a sickening set of results across the board and puts us now in real danger of being cut fairly adrift from 8th really soon. For me, we simply cannot lose to Inverness next week and I can’t say I’m too confident given their excellent result yesterday whilst bringing a host of new signings (one of which scored a first half hat trick). From the highs of Raith a couple weeks, we’ve been hit straight back into reality. I think Davidson has and will make a difference to the team but I’m apprehensive that we’ll need to go through a relegation play off to do so. The damage from beuker and Veldman might not leave enough time for us to achieve 8th but i hope i’m proved wrong
Only saving grace is Arbroath having an absolute crisis with injuries or else we’d easily be sitting in 10th place

I’d still love it to be Danny Wilson who as far as I can see is still yet to be picked up by anyone and at 32 is the right profile for an 18 month contract.
His experience would be valuable for sure having played over 300 career games. As a striker I’d definitely not be disappointed if we brought in Zak Rudden, that seems like its going to be tough to compete for his signature though.
Seems like rudden might be off to Raith Rovers now which is a shame. Wouldn’t be against going for Stevie May on loan if possible. Can’t say I know too much about Stevie May’s legs in 2024 but surely would still do a job in the championship, plus he would know Davidson well

Ferrie has been tremendous this season. He’s always been a very good keeper for us, however when he’s made a rare error, it often looked pretty horrendous (Morton away, east fife away, Dundee at home etc) which probably takes away the recognition he deserves from some of our own support and other fans in the division. His shot stopping ability is absolutely outrageous for this level and I feel he’s more of leader this year (he’s had to in fairness). He’s more than capable of playing in the Scottish premiership but I feel managers might be put off by his height. Here’s hoping as I wouldn’t swap him for any keeper in the league!

I see on Twitter that Rudden has now been told to find a new club by Dundee. Surely based on Davidson’s history working with him (and previous attempts to sign him for St Johnstone prior to joining them) and the fact we desperately need another striker, it’s a no brainer to sign him ?

I’ll assume there may be another 2-3 coming in this month given Davidson’s emphasis on experience. Would imagine that might result in a couple departures ? Jarrett and Healy probably seem prime candidates for a loan spell somewhere ?

As expected, MacKenzie Carse signed up on loan. Seems to be highly rated at Celtic
Callum Haspell also signed- Not a clue how he’ll fare
Good to see Davidson emphasising that experience is still very much needed

I see Scott Williamson is getting recalled from his loan at Cove according to the daily record. Would be fine to have him sitting on the bench for some energy for the last 10 mins of games once Paton is gubbed but I assume we’ll see some attacking reinforcements this month anyway
I think in terms of his own career, he really needs another loan move, probably down to league 2 to the likes of a Clyde maybe ?

With Dundee signing Main I'll be shocked if Davidson doesn't try to bring Rudden your way.
Tried signing him multiple times at Saints before eventually bringing him in on loan.
Would take in a heartbeat if there was any genuine chance of it. More shocked he’s only 23, feel like he’s been around for ages

He's a centre mid seemingly so I don't think it has anything to do with the Thomas rumours. Seems like an odd signing; definitely not an area I think we need to strengthen further as a matter of priority!
Hope so. Just a bit odd we’re signing him in a position we look fairly well covered in. Doubt he’s getting sent out on loan to sit on the bench. Worried something has got to give the other way. Maybe Thomson? Hopefully it’s just a case of bulking up the squad

Another midfielder is interesting. Needs as many options as possible but there’s competition now for the attacking midfield slot with turner/Mckinstry/Carse
Just hope it’s not preparation for a Dom Thomas departure

Yeah I’d have Coyle in a heartbeat. He’d also improve the players that we currently have which is the main thing I’m looking at
Could do a lot worse than Coyle. Doubt he’d chuck India (he was on a very decent salary at us tbf). You’re absolutely correct when you say he’d improve the current crop of players. He somehow turned very average league 1 players in Lee Kilday and Tommy Robson into some of the best defenders in the league last season and played some class football in the process.
Only stipulation is his complete lack of plan B when stuff goes wrong. The first sign of adversity and we simply never recovered. He completely lost his head by the end of the season

What a feeling winning that yesterday, a feeling I’ve probably not felt leaving a qp match in a good 9-10 months. It was great to win against Dunfermline last week but it was a feeling of sheer relief in contrast to yesterday where it was pure euphoria. I had no expectations for yesterday’s game and given the heartbreak of the previous 2 encounters, it felt right to get the 3 points this time around
Immediately you see what an actual recognised manager can bring to a team in terms of basic game management and organisation. You’ve seen on several occasions across the season where you can tell the players are visibly losing belief when attempting to hold on to a lead or any kind of positive result and ultimately we’ve crumbled. However, arguably for the first time in a long while, the players all looked confident and assured in their respective roles and largely defended their area really well. An ounce of game management this season would have gave us an extra 6-8 points so hopefully we’ve turned a corner in that aspect
Welsh seamlessly slotted in the midfield and gave us some much needed composure and experience in key moments of the game. Was brilliant at getting his foot on the ball, doing the basics very well and got a goal for good measure. Just need to make sure he’s managed appropriately to ensure he’s available for large parts of the season
Ferrie and Thomson outstanding once again and I loved ferrie’s reaction to when Raith hit the bar in the dying moments of the game. I’ve always been a massive fan of the guy even when some others maybe didn’t rate him as much previously but he’s went to new levels this season and it’s vital we secure him on a new deal as he’s good as any keeper in this league. Shot stopping ability is outrageous
Raith looked lost for ideas as the game went on. They’ve got some lovely technical players but they seemed to revert to big punts from the full back positions in the hope that Hamilton produces some magic. I know it gets thrown about quite a lot by opposition fans but it really was mental how easy some of the Raith players threw themselves to the ground. I’m glad the ref didn’t buy into it after a while. Easton particularly guilty of falling about on several occasions with minimal contact. The guy has no shame

That will be Raith on their way to their usual winter implosion. How did you lose to that QP mob they are shite!
Cause we have an actual legitimate football manager employed nowadays instead of some bloke who treated it like a boys club. Football can change quickly with the right guy making decisions

Home win. Let's be honest here. Queens Park were rotten last Friday night despite the Beeb love-in. Trouble was we were just a bit more so. This'll be 4 or 5 scud.

Cheers for Welsh lads. Much appreciated!

Spong on the bench? Could argue he was motm last week and now he’s dropped? Risky but guess you’ve got to go with the manager’s judgement

Given that we have been largely honking this season, it would be almost rude to not include some of our own. Based solely on matches I’ve seen against us.
Dabrowski- Raith
Steele - ArbroathWilliams- Partick Thistle
Tizzard - QP
Reading- Ayr
Hepburn - QP
Longstaff - Inverness
Chalmers- Dunfermline
Tilson- Dundee United
Wighton- Dunfermline
Bird - Arbroath

An 18 month contract is just about acceptable. Anymore than that and you’re verging on daft. It’s a risk given his injury record not just in recent times but the entirety of his career but we’re in a position where we need to take a couple of risks on some older heads to help us in our current position. The quality of Welsh seems unquestionable, just hoping we get a sustained period of him on the pitch and not on the sidelines
1 -
Wee bit older than I’d of liked and the injury record concerns me a lot but it’s an experienced centre mid which is needed for guys like Spong and Turner. Even as a squad option, that’ll do for me in our current circumstances in terms of depth and inexperience

I see Connor smith has returned to hearts from his loan from a Scunthorpe. Would take back in a heartbeat. Can play multiple positions in the attacking third
Could be utter nonsense but I was told he wanted to come back to queens in the summer but beuker said no to it
