  1. DAB is an acronym, invented by Dundee supporters, for Dirty Arab B*****d (as if you didn't know). It is used because Arab appears to be an unofficial nickname used by United fans. The term Arab, to describe United fans, was first coined by Dundee supporters around 70 years ago. Growing up in the 60/70s I can confirm that every United supporter I ever knew absolutely hated the term Arab, regarded it as an insult, ang got annoyed when they were referred to as that by Dundee fans. Someone then decided to put 'proud to be an Arab' on a wee badge an lo and behold before too long they were all calling themselves that. Using that logic I predict that in around 10 years time they'll be wandering the streets wearing proud to be a DAB badges.
  2. As much as the banter would be hilarious let's get RC to f**k out of this league
  3. Look we know Dens is in a real state but IMHO there is no way that it should fail a pitch inspection tomorrow and with no deluge forecast the game should 100% go ahead at Dens on Wednesday. If it's moved to Perth then other forces are at play here.
  4. Yep cos DABS keep *popping* into our thread to comment. Carry on
  5. Christ knows what he'll say on Wednesday if they don't pick up all three points. Anyway I'm away to look out the rubber ring and swim cap for midweek but I'll give the Speedos a miss. Even the currents don't deserve that horrific sight
  6. With the Dens pitch sideshow hopefully out of the way until next week it's time to concentrate on the latest chapter of the original derby. Will the Dandies stop the Dees bid for top 6 or will Tony Doc's boys exceed expectations and book a place in the upper half of the table post split? I'm going for a 2-2 draw
  7. Attached is a photo of Dundee born Jimmy Rooney who started off at Lochee Harp Juniors. After a brief spell at Montrose he emigrated to Australia where he was capped 57 times. I remember seeing him play in the 1974 World Cup against West Germany
  8. If the pitch inspection at 11 showed the pitch unplayable then there was no chance of it being playable tonight given the rain that is forecast for the afternoon. Would have given everyone (maybe no the Belfast Loyal) plenty time to cancel their travel arrangements. An early inspection requested by your club btw. There are 3 areas of the pitch causing concern, I'd be surprised if the covers haven't been put back on there. You'd think the whole pitch was a swamp the way some people are carrying on.
  9. I think you'll find it's the 3rd in 2024 if it's cancelled
  10. The game will go on and will end up 2-2. The pitch will be an absolute mess at full time but the grounds staff will get it playable (just) for the following Wednesday. It'll be an absolute tattie field and against all odds the Dee will get a draw (early McCowan strike cancelled out by a Tavernier penalty). It will probably be the worst game seen at Dens in years due to the conditions and the Ibrox club will be raging about the state of the pitch, more so when they lose the league by one point. Anyway back to Saturday and I'm going for a draw given that's been the result between the two sides in the previous encounters this season
  11. I've seen this photo before but have just noticed for the first time that John McGovern, then of Derby County, was in the squad. Makes it all the more intriguing that this gifted player never won a full cap.
  12. It had me fooled for a while as well. Dusan Vrto second in from the right in the second back row wearing the away kit for some reason
  13. In an ideal world McCracken would have a great run of form meaning Carson wouldn't replace him when fit. The boy would enjoy his time at Dens so much that he'd be more than happy to sign on for next season. I'm always the optimist
  14. Thought we were excellent in the first half but started the second half very sloppy and I was getting a wee bit concerned tbh. The penalty changed the second half dynamic and we were the better side again despite a wee flurry from the Dons in added on time. Cameron and Sylla top class with McCowan and Portales not far behind. Main and Dodgson having their best game in dark blue so far. I really expected a lot more from Aberdeen after the cup win on Saturday but they were very poor. I've been going to Dens since season 67/68 and this was probably the worst Dons performance I've seen in all that time. I don't think they will be in the play offs but they will definitely have to get the finger out to avoid it. Dundee looked hungrier and fitter all over the park which must be a real worry for those Dons watching.
  15. Looking at the photo of Easter Road, and in particular the covered terracing opposite the main stand. Was the grassed area behind it part of the old stadium footprint? I remember my first visit to ER in the early 70s and we entered through the turnstiles at the back of the huge open terracing, it seemed to take forever to get to the top of the stairs. Would I be right in saying that the remnants of these old turnstiles are still visible on the wall surrounding this grassed area?
  16. FFS, yer team gets gubbed and you have an incredibly satisfying afternoon. Muppet!!
  17. Being a Dundee fan I'll no doubt be accused of bias but there were no dubious decisions in the return leg in Roma that resulted in United's exit. It was proven that the ref did accept something from Roma beforehand but a lot of United fans will agree that it wasn't down to the ref that they lost, in fact they had a couple of opportunities to score early on to go 3-0 up om aggregate but spurned them.
  18. Hibs worthy winners yesterday and we would have no complaints had it ended up 4 or 5. On the 3 performances against us this season I'm puzzled why we're still ahead Hibs in the league. I was concerned when I saw the line up and the first half confirmed that on this occasion the Doc got it wrong. Slight improvement in the 2nd half but any kind of result for us would have been daylight robbery. I'm coming to the conclusion that we may be the best of the bottom 6, the next month or so will confirm that or otherwise. It's a work in progress though and whilst it's easy to be critical of the team yesterday we're in a far better position at this stage of the season than many of us thought we might be. The big challenge for Docherty is to improve on the side again for next season with hopefully a few more signed Dundee players in the starting 11. I'm a fan of the loan system when it works as well as it has this season and I'm sure we will dip into the market again next season but ideally we'd be looking at no more than 3 or 4 loanees in the first team squad. Onwards and upwards though, a win against Killie on Saturday might just keep our top 6 ambitions alive.
  19. If Hibs have given us the full 3 sections then I make that to be around 1350 tickets. Not many available left so looks like we're taking a decent support down. Hopefully shift quite a few more before Saturday.
  20. I'm hoping to attend now but waiting on confirmation that a previously arranged family event is no longer happening. Looking at the Hibs website there are only about 30 tickets left in the two sections allocated to Dundee fans. Do any Hibees on here know if they will open up a third section is we sell out soon? On another note for Dees travelling by train, bear in mind that the egg chasers are playing at Murrayfield on Saturday so the trains will be rammed.
  21. Thought Dundee deserved to win but have to say I was beginning to think it was one of those days prior to the penalty decision. I hate VAR and yesterday proved once again that it's ruining our game, probably the softest penalty I have ever seen us awarded. Up until then I thought the Saints back 4 had been very good with some great interceptions, blocks in the box. After we scored however there was only one team that looked like winning. I think their defence will help them get enough points to finish 10th though. For the Dee, full marks have to be given to Donnelly, Sylla and Cameron with McGhee not far behind. If Sylla plays like that every week then he stays in the team. Was disappointed again with Robinson and despite his work rate wee Tiffoney isn't doing it for us I'm afraid. He may still come good though. Decent crowd and a healthy travelling support making for a good atmosphere.
  22. Wee bit like Robinson yesterday talking about the horrible pitch in new Love St (nae idea what you're stadium is called these days)
  23. I take it you guys will throw in the towel then. Who could resist another visit to Scotland's sunniest city
  24. Thoroughly enjoyed the game despite the loss, as others have said Shankland was the difference but the penalty decision was without a doubt a game changer. Ashcroft has done really well since coming back into the side but the absence of Portales, Lamie and Donnelly through injury has definitely cost us dearly recently. If we can get these guys back quickly I'm sure we'll start getting more points on board. I think the Doc is doing an excellent job, only criticism yesterday was I thought he should have brought on Main for big Baka with 15 to go. Apart from the fact he was on a yellow I think the fresher legs would have got us further up the park. Delighted to see Cameron get the whole 90 minutes yesterday, the wee man is a joy to watch
