  1. Lineker didn’t use the word Nazi in his tweet. He may have implied it by comparing the language to 30s Germany It is the right wing media that started used the N word.
  2. My sons both go in Section NW and no one sits in their seats, in fact no one actually sits. I went with them on Tuesday. There were stewards at the top of the first set of stairs when you went in checking that supporters had tickets for that area. You only had to walk along to the next stairs to be able to get into the area from the other side. IMO it would be better and safer if that area was standing, as it was utter carnage when the goals went in. It still doesn’t excuse the moronic behaviour of some fans. It only reflects badly on the club when items are thrown on the pitch, especially when they are aimed at opposing players. Scrunching up a bit of paper and throwing it may seem like fun, but it only takes one idiot to throw something more dangerous and the club can be in big trouble.
  3. When I worked overseas in the 90s I used to rely on the BBC for their unbiased reporting and coverage of events. They have become a pale shadow of that and have now become one of those state propaganda machines that we used to laugh about back in the day. I have just deleted my DD for the TV License and it felt great.
  4. The linesman obviously thought that as well and that’s all that counts.
  5. From my view in the ground it didn’t and most of the Pars fans around me agreed.
  6. Absolutely buzzing for this game tonight. It’s shows that Scottish football is just about two teams and if there is something to play for the fans will come out. A shame that they couldn’t open the NE stand and totally fill the ground. I know that there is a big rivalry between the clubs, but I hope there is just a great atmosphere and advert for the game and none of the silliness that we get with the certain other clubs.
  7. I don’t want to worry anybody, but there is light snow starting to fall where I am just now about 1/2 a mile away from East End Park!
  8. I seem to remember that the 82 semi final between Aberdeen and St Mirren was originally scheduled to be played at Muirton. I am not sure if there was an issue with the capacity or safety issues but it got moved to Celtic Park. The replay was at Dens though. Tynecastle was also a favourite venue in the 80s for semifinals that didn’t involve a Glasgow team.
  9. Ah, That explains why Waitrose have never managed to open a branch in Cowdenbeath then!
  10. This brings to mind the time we found an old Scouts campfire song book while away camping. It had a version of the American Civil War song ‘Marching through Georgia’ (better known as the tune used for Hello Hello! by some fans here) that went ‘all the n*gg**s came out and cheered as we were marching by!’ We decided it was probably better not to sing it that night and I think it may have been used to help start the fire.
  11. When I lived in London in the late 80s I used to occasionally get a copy of the Record/Sunday Mail just to keep up with the football news. Sportspages in Charing Cross Road also did most of the Scottish fanzines which probably gave a more accurate description of the game. I worked in Egypt for a few months in 94 and started occasionally reading the Independent, though it was a day or two out of date and cost a couple of quid I felt close to its political outlook at that time. Since I moved back to Scotland I used to only buy papers at the weekend normally The Scotsman/SOS or The Herald. It’s now a good few years since I have bought any newspaper as I find I can get most news online now and if I am looking for any analysis of the news I prefer to listen to podcasts. If I had to buy something to read for a flight or train journey I would probably choose Private Eye.
  12. Please tell me what these important and long standing traditions are that an independent Scotland would lose? We would still be part of the British Isles and have England as our nearest neighbours.
  13. A few more sections in the East Stand have become available and I doubt Georgia will fill the area in the West Stand that hasn’t been available yet.
  14. I have been actively following The Dons since the late 70s and am trying to remember feeling this low about the team. I know I felt gutted after losing the league cup replay to Utd in 79 as we had beaten both of the Old Firm en route and was sure this would be the first trophy I would see us win. (I was too young to fully remember 76). Then when Hamburg put us out of Europe after we had destroyed them in the first leg I remember the ribbing I got at school the next day. At least in those days I felt that the team had done their best and we still went into a season expecting to win something and regularly beat Glasgows finest home and away. I was overseas when Stenny beat us but we had beaten Rangers the previous week so felt that was just a freak result. Watching the game on Monday night was embarrassing, the team was second best in nearly every department on the pitch. No one seemed to be showing any leadership. Every player should hang their heads low and be made to apologise to the fans for such a performance.
  15. If you lose in the final you will at least have had the joy of winning the semifinal to secure the Final place, the build up to the final itself and the hopeful optimism of actual day out. I admit that I was gutted when Rogic scored right at the end of that game especially after having been in lead at one point but I was also immensely proud of how the team had performed that day. last night was without a doubt the lowest point that I can remember for the club. What made it worse was that the players didn’t look like they even cared.
  16. To all those people saying that the Dandies aren’t famous anymore. They have just been part of the biggest shock in Scottish Cup history so it depends on your definition of famous!
  17. Maybe if Goodwin says the team in blue are The Rangers, we might see a different performance in the second half!
  18. Only one team looks like they want to win tonight. Absolutely pathetic from the Dons so far.
  19. I agree, though I would ban Scotsport from ever showing curling again. Many a Sunday afternoon at my Grans was ruined when that show would open with Arthur Montford sitting in an Ice Rink and the realisation sink in that the football was now going to be on later and would clash with Sunday dinner!
  20. Looking forward to a nice weekend away in the hills celebrating the Mrs birthday that weekend. The only coronation I want to see is the chicken variety in my sandwiches.
  21. 1989-90 season, the ref was under instructions to award them a penalty and make sure it’s a Mason who scores the winning goal!
  22. Legend doesn’t even begin to describe Sir Andy. He is without a doubt the greatest living Scottish sportsman.
  23. Is the Nisbet sell on fee a one off if Hibs sell him or say he went to Celtic and was a big hit there getting a big move down south, would The Pars get a cut of that transfer fee too?
  24. Have they decided which ends of the ground each teams fans will be at yet? I see that the prices are pretty outrageous as well but if it sells out then there can’t be any complaints. Unfortunately it would also set a precedent for prices at future finals though.
  25. Even former leaders of the branch office don’t agree with this.
