  1. I wonder when we will get a game at Hampden at the weekend again? I work shifts so can arrange time off during the week but need to wait on my son finishing college, so we end up caught in the rush hour traffic on M876/M80 and M74. I feel sorry for fans travelling from further afield especially with younger children. Regards the ticket prices, they are slowly creeping up, but as we are selling out most games there must be the demand and compared with what I paid for the recent league cup final it’s still just in my budget. It would have been nice if they had reduced prices for the friendlies especially as one is just a week before the Euros and many fans are also shelling out a load of money going over to Germany. They could have done a special price for SSC members. Showing my age here, but I remember the friendly with Argentina prior to Italia 90 was something like £2 as a thank you to the fans for their support. I can’t remember what normal games at Hampden were costing then, but I was regularly paying around £5 at league games at that time. Regardless, I am happy enough with the draw and looking forward to the games.
  2. Going to San Agustin with the autistic lad that I look after. He is a Liverpool fan and the Caribo Cup Final is on while we are away. Do any P&Bers know of bars that would be likely to show the game on that Sunday, preferably not a Chelsea bar.
  3. I knew we should have left the tap running again today. Ah welll at least I have got home to see the egg chasers game.
  4. That would only really matter if we had tickets! I haven’t been able to get any as I wasn’t prepared to pay 600 euros for the only ones left when my son and myself could apply. We are just going over to soak up the atmosphere and make a holiday out of the two weeks.
  5. Just got an email from my home insurance company saying that they weren’t able to renew the policy when it expires next month. I paid £227 last year. The cheapest quote I have had on MoneySuperMarket is £453!
  6. I am driving over with the family so I won’t need the long distance trains. I have Airbnbs booked outside of the cities near Munich, Cologne and Stuttgart for a few days around each of the games so that should be ideal for getting into the cities with the local public transport rather than driving. is it just a download on your phone or is there a physical ticket available as well?
  7. I was advised by a friend who now lives in Munich to get the MVV-app for local train times etc. When I was looking at options for trains into the city from where I am staying about 40 km outside Munich and thought that 49 Euros seemed a bit expensive. On closer inspection this price was for a Deutschland-ticket which seems to be a month long ticket allowing travel an all local public transport (bus, train, tram, etc) throughout Germany. Have I read that correctly and does anyone have experience of using the D-ticket?
  8. Back in 1990 I was able to get tickets for the Scottish games as part of a package deal with AT Mays. I’m not sure how other sales of tickets were organised. However back in those days you could also turn up at most top flight games in England and pay at the gate on the day (I was living in London at the time). I do remember getting tickets for the Scotland game at Wembley in 88 via an FA advert in the London Evening Standard. Totally different days back then.
  9. Nothing for me, so it looks like fanzones or bars over in Germany for me. There is always the ticket resale option I suppose but I am not holding out any great hope. I am still going over with all the family so plan to have a great time regardless
  10. Sums up everything wrong with journalism is this country, though classing the current bun as journalism is stretching it a bit. I wonder if their English edition had him as Everton hero?
  11. Although it has thawed a bit today the ground was still pretty hard this afternoon while I was out with the dug. The rain that’s forecast overnight may help, but I wouldn’t go buying a ticket before the pitch inspection tomorrow morning.
  12. Is that the Newcastle ferry on the 12th? If so I will look out for you in the bar, I have a feeling there could be a few folk travelling over for the football on it, it could end up like the St Clair going to Gothenburg in 83! I had originally planned driving to Dover, but my sons both objected to driving the length of the UK again, they have done it plenty of times to visit family on the South Coast. They offered to pay for the overnight crossing so I went for that. Driving down to Munich is all part of the adventure. We have an overnight in Wurzburg on the 13th.
  13. We are getting the ferry over from Newcastle and driving to Munich (with an overnight stop) for the opening game. Are there any on here with experience of driving across Germany on the autobahn, I am hoping it’s much easier than driving similar distances in the UK where you can almost guarantee to get caught in traffic on the M6 or M25. Any other advice is much appreciated.
  14. Just got in from walking the dog and watching fog rolling in over the west of the town , I had been jokingly wondering if the fog could have the game postponed! Got in the house to find that there has been flooding a couple of miles away.
  15. Anyone know how they are crossing over to the continent? I will be on the Newcastle-Amsterdam overnight ferry on the 12th. Hopefully a few others travelling for the football on it as well!
  16. I can take Rovers winning, that’s football some you win, some you lose. But watching that video tonight has sickened me. It brings shame on the club and the city. I hope all those involved never darken EEP with their presence again and the authorities come down hard on them.
  17. Main stand showing sold out and less than 30 left in the Norrie. Will the NE stand and east wing of the main and be used?
  18. I have seen this photo doing the rounds on social media. I always thought that Charlie might have tried to modernise the institution slightly, but he seems to be revelling in all the dressing up. On Liz it seemed a bit more dignified, but it now just looks silly and outdated. I suppose it is to show us plebs where we stand in the grand scheme of things!
  19. Am I the only one mad enough to drive over? Booked the ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam today, travelling overnight on 12th June. Then planning to drive down to Munich area, not sure if we will do it in all in one day or stop on the way. Still to get accommodation finalised, looking at Airbnb, but having the car will give us a little bit of flexibility. We have no tickets for any of the games but the Mrs and my grown up sons are all coming, so looking forward to just getting into the whole atmosphere of Scotland being at a major finals combined with a family holiday.
  20. I worked on cruise ships back in the 90s and we did a ‘Bagpipes & Shamrocks’ cruise with 4 ports of call in Scotland. Rosyth was the only place I had been before, growing up a few miles away. Portree, Lerwick and Invergordon were all new places for me. It soon got me realising that while I was growing up, Oban was probably the only place in Scotland that I ever visited for a reason other than going to watch football. Since having a family myself I have visited much more of our country and especially liked going up to the North West to places like Skye, Wester Ross and Sutherland, though I have yet to go back there since NC 500 became trendy. I have still never been to Dumfries or on the East Coast north of Invergordon.
  21. Aberdeen are the side I grew up watching, but living in West Fife I go to see The Pars play more often now, so for the benefit of this thread I will assume both have gone. I would probably go and watch local non-league games; Oakley, Rosyth, Burntisland, etc. I won’t be going to Central Park though as I understand that the Blue Brazil voted in favour of the B teams. In my younger days I would probably have travelled around to top flight games or even popped down to see The Toon play, but the days of turning up on the day and paying at the turnstiles for those games are long gone and no longer affordable.
  22. I actually look after a couple of those ‘scroungers’ in my work with autistic adults. These guys I support wouldn’t be capable of working and need a lot of care and support to try and live as normal a life as possible. I can also assure you that they are very much loved by their families and those who work with them.
  23. I always find it weird that fans of the uglies think we wouldn’t survive without them. No one outside of their own support and fanboys in the media actually cares about them. Many clubs have a lower home support when they visit, as no one wants to hear 90 minutes of their ‘traditional’ songs and all that unique atmosphere that surrounds them. A successful Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs or either of the Dundee teams would bring a large travelling support without all that baggage that could make up for the loss of the uglies. we would also be able to increase the size of the league as we wouldn’t have to have 4 OF games every season. Playing each other at least 4 times a season is tedious. Unfortunately, I don’t think it will happen unless the European Super League reappears and they want a second or third level. The EPL certainly doesn’t want or need them. I found it somewhat ironic that the English were up in arms when the idea of the super league was threatening to take their top teams, while many here would welcome it happening.
  24. It has probably alienated those Dandies that still backed him and wanted to give him a chance. It’s the sort of attitude to playing in Glasgow that disgusted Fergie when he first took charge. He was quick to weed out any players who had that ‘a draw is a good result’ attitude. He would even rage at his players when they won the cup as in 83.
  25. Why would an elected Head of State need to political. They could be someone well respected on the international stage like David Attenborough. personally I would choose Gary Lineaker at the moment just to see the total meltdown of some right wing types!
