  1. Fair enough. What I really mean is that only Smith looks like a regular scorer. Brighton just does not look like a regular scorer and indeed his career record supports that view I think. Johnston will score a few but Carmichael currently lacks the composure to be a regular scorer albeit he has loads of talent. I agree it's overstating it to say we have zero threat but we certainly had little to offer yesterday which I guess is exactly the point you are making. What needs urgent attention is what has become almost an expectation that we are going to concede late. in reality my post was aimed at producing some discussion on that matter.
  2. Teams losing late goals do so for a variety of reasons. 1. Just unlucky. Has already happened too often to be just bad luck. 2. Poor fitness levels. 3. Lack of ability in the squad thus don`t keep the ball and no respite for the defence. 4. Lack of depth in the squad thus players play when way short of full fitness. 5. Poor tactics as outlined by Mr X as above. We seem to lack pace in central defence and thus tend to defend deeper and deeper as the game goes on. We have zero goal threat other than "Elbows" Smith and in most away games haven`t looked a threat.
  3. Pleased to hear sounds as if injury to Sibbald not as bad as first feared.
  4. Eh no. They are one of the reasons but i`ve seen many a QOS side where talent was almost non-existent. Didn`t stop me going though.
  5. Dobbie is the best player I`ve seen for QOS. In his final season in particular he was absolutely outstanding. Top player who will surely be in the hall of fame in the future. I`d love to see him get a call up for Scotland but sadly he`s probably not a "Levein player".
  6. Iain McChesney and Tommy Bryce Mark2 Really tough to decide. Ches for outstanding service as a player and beyond. TB because I just loved him as player. Not the best I've seen that would be S Dobbie.
  7. Haven`t yet. Tough choice. When you are as old as me you have seen a lot of players (good and bad). Edit to add some good and bad on the list TBH.
  8. He split opinion amongst our support. I`d have kept him and the story was that he had been offered a deal but MacPherson subsequently withdrew this. That could be rubbish mind you. Lightening fast but sometimes lacked end product. Can play wide or up front. Decent enough goal return given limited starts in my view. Too posh and too educated for Brannigan`s liking allegedly
  9. Potentially a decent enough squad with some flexibilty albeit as you say dependant on a number of possible signings still being made. We currently have IMHO a substandard keeper with no 2nd keeper. I`ll reserve judgement until some further signings confirmed.
  10. To an extent I agree that the player needs to rise above it but it can`t possibly help for any player to be regularly reminded that the manager has no faith in them and will pretty much only pick them when others are out. Certainly can`t help. Managers at all clubs will have their favourites but the public undermining must, in my view, be tougher to take. Some players need a roasting, some need encouragement. Like i say I feel DW has real potential and the attributes to be a top player at this level. FWIW I thought it was to KB`s credit that he got some quality perfromances out of McLaren, something Chisholm pretty much failed to do despite the guy`s obvious talent.
  11. Overall I thought DW did well when he featured last season which considering he seemed to regularly be the manager`s number one public scapegoat was a decent effort. Given a manager who believed in him or at least treated him like the other players I think he could really blossom. Well worth the risk in my view. Clearly Gus`s view that counts though. If he can bring in someone better then great.
  12. Still unclear. He played in the match against Queens Park the other night but he has no deal as yet. I think it would be a major error to let the guy go. Can play wide or up front and unlike many players can have a real impact coming off the bench. His pace alone is a major threat at SFL1 level.
  13. Des McKeown (reasonable) and Duncan Shields (awful) have also signed for us in the period since the fabulous Peter Dickson signed for us.
  14. Jimmy Coughlin also came from Rovers. Good wee player for QOS.
  15. Big mistake to let Weatherston go in my view. Given the previous manager publically declared his lack of faith in the player I thought DW did well last season. Decent scoring record from limited starts. Given a manager who believed in him I think he could be a real asset.
  16. Pleased with new appointment. Nice to hear an interview where the club seemed to be the focus rather than a list of the manager`s latest grievances. Gus Interview.
  17. That`s not to say Dobbie wouldn`t be a decent option on the bench. I`ll be surprised if he doesn`t at least make the squad at some stage next season.
