  1. I'm not in the 'we should go 2 up' brigade but we need to find a way to get more support for May. We work our way into excellent positions, produce a cross of varying quality and there's either no one there because May is involved in the build up or he's marked in the box. The winger on the other side is often in the box as well, or arriving into the box, but Wotherspoon/Conway/O'Halloran don't usually do much in that situation either. I like the stability the shape gives us, I like the freedom the centre halves have to support and underlap as well but 'we are doing the right things' doesn't cut it when we're more than a third of the way through the league season. If it hadn't been for Mugabi making a poor challenge on Saturday, we wouldn't have scored. We need to get more support to the striker, whether that's tweaking it to a 5-2-1-2 or pushing one of the midfielders closers to May in the current shape, I'm not sure. This squad is more than good enough to finish in the top 6 but it wont unless something is changed.
  2. Honest to god, the stats absolutely kill the soul of football for me. 5 ‘accurate long passes’ could just as easily be 5 lucky punts that found Tony Watt’s head. Not a go at you @capt_oats or indeed anyone else, other than maybe our manager. He’ll see the same stats that show how much we dominate games as RandomGuy will. It could be what’s stopping him from making the changes that are so obviously needed for us to be an effective team in the final third. We give full backs and holding midfielders a tough time with a lot of our play but centre halves have it easy against us really. If they mark May there’s not really any other danger and it seems to be crosses into the box are all we muster in an attacking sense.
  3. Draw about right for me to be honest. The system allows us to dominate possession and territory but we don’t really make anything of that. The team is clearly well organised, they seem to know and understand their roles and we play pretty football at times but I don’t feel like teams are ever in much danger against us. We need to find a way to commit players forward or this won’t improve. 3 goals (1 a penalty) in 9 games against top flight opposition at home is just shite. motherwell did what they had to do and got a point. They loaded the box at times and looked more likely to score even if the stats say otherwise. Also felt Bryson was very lucky to not see red. I have no idea why he felt the need to scrape down the back of the goalies leg in the way that he did.
  4. I'm not sure I agree with this to be honest. We dominate pretty much every game we play at home, certainly in terms of territory, but we don't really create *that* many chances. Maybe one or two in a game. The good chances we do create get fluffed on a frighteningly consistent scale. I can't imagine we'll continue to play as well as we have done at home - which we have for the most part - and we're still not really picking up results. It's easy just blaming the strikers but I don't think they get that much support from the rest of the team. How many times have we seen a decent looking cross being swung into the box, with only 1 player in there for Saints attacking the ball, even when we have had a decent period of possession leading up to it? We play good football for the most part but I think the jury is still out on the shape. The players seem to have bought into it so maybe it does just need more time but I can't say I'm convnced.
  5. Indeed. We’re well past the point where we can call it bad luck. We’re 3 and a half months into the season and we’ve only scored 2 home goals against other top flight clubs.
  6. I can definitely believe the players are fitter. They were relentless with their pressing last night and didn’t seem to tire at all. I think Jason Kerr has really grown in stature this season. He’s looked a good player since breaking through, but he’s stepped up a level this season and he’s grown into the captain’s role. His form should put him in contention for a Scotland call, especially given the fact that our defensive shape is similar to Scotland’s. He gives us an extra attacking option up the right wing, something that McCart is starting to do on the other side now too. My biggest (only at this point) concern with this shape is it doesn’t seem to get the best out of Hendry and McCann. Hendry looks lost at times and last night is really the first time I’ve seen McCann dominate a midfield in the way he did in games last season. Kane’s performance off the bench last night was sensational. He’s always had his uses and is probably the best striker we have to defend a lead, but if there was any justice he’d have scored after that delicious turn and curved effort and then had an assist when he picked out MOH in the box in the last minute.
  7. Feel like I’ve watched the same match in every home game other than Celtic. At least this time we found a way to win.
  8. Dundee looking good for the play offs here. Good thing they only need to get passed diddies like Falkirk and Partick Thistle to retain their spot in the second tier, IMO.
  9. The way our season is going, our squad will be forced into isolation and we’ll forfeit our games against Kelty and Brechin.
  10. Goalkeepers 1. Zander Clark -2022 12. Elliot Parish – 2021 Defenders 19. Shaun Rooney– 2022 15. Danny McNamara – 2021 – on loan from Millwall 6. Liam Gordon - 2021 5. Jason Kerr – 2022 4. Craig Bryson - 2021 7. Craig Conway - 2021 Forwards 9. Chris Kane – Jan 2021 11. Michael O'Halloran – 2021 14. Stevie May – 2021 + 1 22. Callum Hendry - 2022 17. Guy Melamed - 2021 Here's hoping we don't pick up too many injuries, particularly at centre back. Decent quality throughout the squad though.
  11. Hopefully we’ll get someone in the door soon. I’ve heard we’re very Keane on a striker.
  12. 2 defeats on penalties after 0-0 draws incoming.
  13. Hopefully someone who'll fix the social media content.
  14. I'll be generous and say he's raw. He's a right back but can cover at centre back. We've not seen him play a game for us since January, but before that he really struggled in the top flight. Might just need games and a run to improve his confidence but I'd be surprised to see him in a Saints shirt again.
  15. That game against Trakai should've seen the end of Paul Paton at Saints. Their players just waited for him to get the ball and would just take it away from him after his inevitably shite first touch. They sussed him after 5 minutes in the home game and it happened countless times. Callachan was no better, possibly even worse.
  16. With their tiny budget as well. Very strange.
  17. I’d drop O’Halloran to be honest. He’s not really offering anything and I feel like his discipline is becoming a bit of an issue, thought he was lucky not to get booked on a couple of occasions again today with late tackles and leaving a big on players after making a challenge.
  18. As comfortable a 1-0 as you’ll see. Excellent performance from our point of view - St Mirren didn’t lay a glove on us. If we could finish we’d have won by 4 or 5, thank goodness May brought his shooting boots with him. McNamara looks a really terrific player and that’s the first time I’ve really seen what Conway could bring to the team. Quite funny that, for all the brilliant build up play on the right, the goal came from a cross from the left. I think Wotherspoon and McCann worked better in the midfield two than McCann and Craig as well. I think the only disappointment for me today was Hendry. He looks really out of sorts in this shape
  19. If only this was a boxing match. It would’ve been stopped by now without the need for a knock out blow. Very one sided first half but we’ve seen this show before.
  20. Very early days but that's my view too. Maybe he'll improve as he plays more games but we'd have been as well hanging onto Swanson if what we're seeing is Conway's top gear.
