  1. I burnt out the clutch in a van once. Living in Wales, my house was on a very steep hill. I was moving house and filled the van and it just would not move uphill. And, Wales being full of utter scum, some guy parked his car right behind the van so couldn't reverse downhill. So I went for power and burnt it out.
  2. I have suggested the kindle but he just isn't keen. Likes a book to be a book! The selection in the Alloa library for large print is poor, so just looking around for him. Cheers
  3. If you want to watch qualifying, it is on at 4pm today. The sprint (aka the first quarter of the race) is tomorrow, and the remainder on Sunday. What a shite format.
  4. He has been bullying his female colleagues and received warnings from the Guardian about it. There have been complaints in about him from female staff members.
  5. Quick question. My dad's eyesight is awful. He loves reading but now can only do it using large print books and a magnifying glass he got from the RNIB. Is there a bookshop/site that specialises in large print? And also, is there such a thing as extra large print?
  6. Given what Private Eye has been revealing about Owen Jones, I think she might regret being associated with him in the near future.
  7. The empire strikes back. My daughter claims to be a big star wars fan. Lots of toys and teddies, plays the lego games... But never seen the original trilogy. I am correcting this. Fantastic film. Miles ahead of any star wars movie made since, er, 1980.
  8. My old man is getting light therapy for a superficial form of skin cancer. One treatment, takes an hour, and all done. Wish they could all be treated like this.
  9. The trouble with the new manager is that from the second he walks into the club, he has the burden of the last decade to contend with. Owners have spunked a billion quid or so on dross players, and he'll need even more money from them. No title since 2013, and there will be (from some quarters) an expectation that they will "challenge for the title" within a year or two. Hell, Jurgen Klopp took 4 years to win his title. No way Man u would stick with someone that long.
  10. My daughter sometimes gets a McDonald's meal. Chicken nuggets, chips and a mcflurry. She dips the hot food in the ice cream and eats it.
  11. That is some take. The murder, torture and rape of Ukrainian citizens is justified by these, eh? Wild.
  12. At home watching a movie with the kids. My daughter has a slush puppy pouch and a bag of French fries. She is dipping the French fries in the slush puppy and eating them. Gross.
  13. Starmers speech yesterday was genuinely outstanding. Not as good as Ed Miliband roasting him on brexit but up there with the best. More of that needed.
  14. Sorry, chief, but there is no evidence of competence here. During the pandemic he was giving away cash and taking the plaudits. Now we see the end result. Billions lost to fraud, causing a tory minister to resign. No answer to the cost of living crisis, inflation, or anything. He has just jacked up national insurance at the same time as energy costs jumped up massively. It is easy to look good when hosing cash around, and he made the most of it. But beyond that he is an empty suit.
  15. I love the fact it says he is is Russia affiliated next to his name.
  16. On motorsport, I am no fan of Lewis Hamilton but his first title win in 2008 - when he won it on the last corner of the last lap of the last race - was genuinely thrilling. And it included this scene
  17. In simplistic terms, this is moving the breadline up when any decent society would be working to move it down Yep - and nobody wants to see it approaching them
  18. I don't reckon the Tories get how much this issue more than any other will damage them. If it were just the very, very poorest suffering they would just stick up two fingers and let them starve. But it is more than that - middle earners suddenly feeling a lot poorer, many of whom are natural Tory voters. I'm not saying these folk will all flock to Labour but they might just stay home at the next election. That is, unless the Tories suddenly find a clue and do something to alleviate this crisis for all. Their little loan and £10 a month off the council tax mean nothing.
  19. @BFTD is the main expert on imported sex dolls, probably didn't need any other opinions tbh.
  20. When I worked the checkouts at a supermarket as a teenager, a few times they would be closing the store and I was 2 minutes from the end of my shift, and someone would show up with a trolley piled high. I often worked the extra 10 minutes serving them. No flexi, no overtime and no thanks. Somerfield - I do not mourn its passing.
