He's very dependent upon the tactical system. The 4-2-3-1 either left or central in the attacking mid trio suits him. An aggressive, man marking rather than zonal defensive system too. We spent most of this season doing something very different.

I agree he's flawed. Looking to the Championship next season, though, he should be considered a key component. His passing was actually impressive today too not just his shooting and he'll get more space in the Champ. Midfields are more stretched out as teams don't defend as compactly.

On my tactics comment and your point that maybe it'd have only improved the goal difference. Sure, I know why you say that. Defenders who aren't good enough remain not good enough regardless of tactics. That's definitely true. I do think tactics has come into to some degree, though, and I mean since we've made the switch to the 4-2-3-1.

Martindale had us primed this season to defend zonally. It was all about the "low block" and, effectively, folk standing in the right space. This is maybe just my bias here because of my personal preference but I just don't think we defend best like that with the players we have. I think we were better suited to a man marking defensive style. That's where you just go man for man rather than worrying about eg. having four defenders to mark two attackers zonally. This is more aggressive as it sees more players in the midfield and attack lines rather than the defensive line. You play a higher offside line and defend from the front, pressing. Boyes and De Lucas, both pacey and aggressive, were well suited to this. Donnellan came in and is also suited to it. Parkes, Devlin, Obileye, Sean Kelly are not. Nottingham is somewhere in between. George in goals is much better suited to a high defensive line as his strongest attribute is one on ones, see his save from Miovski last week for example.

The knock-on effect a more aggressive defence has to the rest of the team is huge, it'd have benefitted our midfield and attack. We defended much more aggressively in the two seasons prior to this one.

I agree with everything you have written but I would just have said  " we've been shite  all season " and left it at that.

  2. VAR was brought in to help the on field officials where  a clear and obvious error had been made. My take is that if 2 officials cannot see the clarity or obviousness ( word?) Of the error then it cannot be clear or obvious. Is it therefore an error ? I was at Satursays game and thought it was a perfectly good goal. Astonished that it was overturned. Scotlands versionof VAR is crap and is a platform for organised cheating with bias towards certain teams.. I'm not a youngster bumping my gums here but a guy who has played and followed football for 65 years plus..  It does not help refs, rather hinders them. Refs agree with VAR decisions so to avoid controversy. VAR makes the decisions now and ruining the game. Glad Aberdeen have taken officialdom to task over the nonsense that presided on Saturday. Hope they get more evidence of what clear and obvious error was made by the officials. Bitter and twisted old man rant over. Time for a lie down.

No, it wasn’t having a go at the size of the support.

But the fact that for those fixtures you have to actively deny anyone who doesn’t have a season ticket from going to the game is counter productive to sustainably growing your support.

A big result against one of them may mean a few more people might ‘catch the bug’ for going more regularly or getting a season ticket, but they’re not allowed to go because of a risk that the end gets filled up with mutants.

Just to clarify. For those erse cheek home games only season ticket holders can buy tickets for the home end. So as their season ticket gives them their seat , they can buy for friends/ family for the home stand. That way the club has a handle on  who buys what and where and in the  unfortunate circumstances of there being any disruption they know who bought what and can take appropriate action.

Wont have to put up with them next season though, we'll be back to our big empty stadium.

There were a number of empty seats yesterday around where I sit and it could be because it was a) Easter Sunday or b) it was one of the weegie mob c) one of the weegie mob who celebrate other things at Easter rather than its Religious significance. Whatever, maybe home attendances won't fall off significantly in the Championship because we won't have to put up with their particular brand of " support". Those that used to come along may be encouraged to return to see a more competitive league in relative safety

  5. Listened to Martindale on the radio. Delusional.  We were never in the game to pose any kind of threat to Celtic and comic cuts defending just helped them to 3 points that bit quicker. George kept it from being more embarrassing.  The gulf in the quality of players between the sides  was huge.  Before we would attempt to close that gap by working hard and closing down quickly. Don't have the personnel these days to do that..  it would be nice to stay in the Premier League but to be honest, I'm not really that fussed. The cash would be great but on the plus side of going down will mean that we don't have to put up with the bile that the unwashed bring. Gonna look fwd to Airdrie, Dunfermline and Falkirk away days.

  6. Kettlewell must have seen the blindingly obvious that we were wide open on our left hand side. 1st half Motherwell could not capitalise on this . Sean Kelly is not  a full back, Nouble  offered no defensive  ( or attacking) help whatever. All 3 goals came from crosses from that area. The masterstroke of taking Kelly off ( injured?) and putting Devlin on in his place, who is worse, showed the standard of player recruitment this season.  Motherwell  undoubtedly deserved the win but ŵhen two quick energetic players in Holt and McKay were taken off  to allow  the likes of Mr Pointy ( Shinnie) to come on, the writing was on the wall. Getting to away games will be a skoosh next season.

By no means am I saying that this group are the first to do it, but there is a clear danger of other groups from other clubs seeing this behaviour and making it a competition. Someone said previously that it is a societal issue and that is absolutely bang on. Dundee annually has issues with youth (and older people it must be said) setting fires, throwing fireworks at police and generally causing chaos. You had that group of Dunfermline fans earlier on in the season kicking lumps out of a Raith Rovers fan with a disability.

It is absolutely nothing to do with depravation or poverty and everything to do with these wee cretins knowing they can do something and get away with it. Repercussion does not exist nowadays - not to any meaningful level.

Something has to be done but unfortunately, I can only see it happening in such a way that does not help the reputation of every law-abiding football fan that goes to the game with their mates just to watch it!

What I would say is that I feel for St Mirren fans having their name dragged through the mud because of a small group.

This is spot on. I am of pensionable age and have enjoyed my trips each season to St Mirren. The NB lads create a good atmosphere and I have never felt intimidated or threatened when coming to the matches in Paisley. That could all change if wallopers  like these neds leech on to the club. If I don't feel safe, I'm not going, simple.  I'm NOT saying they are part of the NB crew but others may conclude differently, and that  would be a shame. Every club seems to attract an undesirable element , goodness knows we have a few questionable attendees as well. Attacking a less able fan , nicking his stuff, probably just for kicks,. is a disgrace. Hope someone grasses on them.

The last thorns in our side, sooner those 2 GTF the better. They're clogs in the Amber Machine, stopping us from moving forward.

Is anybody able to categorically say who has the controlling interest In Livingston FC ? There have been truths, opinions and loads of supposition on this matter and I would say the majority of fans are completely in the dark.

Livi 1st penalty was less than a foul than our 3rd goal..it's as if the var team are just making it up as they go along

Agree Livis 1st penalty was a joke esp as it was right in front of the assistant who gave nothing. Justice served when Shinnie made an arse of it. Second was at opposite end of the ground from where I sit so , hands up, i'll take it regardless. The push on Penrice for the 3rd was blatant but no VAR ? To sum up, VAR is ruining the game. Bin it until it and the operators are fit for purpose. I'd rather have the refs make a mistake and then we can have a real good moan about it in the pub after, than wait 5 mins for some decision made in a room miles away by somebody watching a TV.  Dundee deserved the win, we are totally useless.

Martindale basically saying no one wants to sign for us despite the money being there ffs

If he would give his head a wobble before he comes out with Primark pish then there might be a chance of attracting someone half decent. That kind of talk does nothing to enhance the reputation of the club nor does it show him in a good light. We know we are never going to get charged for breaking financial fair play regulations but if the money is there not better to buy " quality"  than volume.
