  1. The concern for me about Hutton, other than him being an aging keeper on the decline, is that he's not had a single competitive minute this season, when there may have been a chance to play him at some point. Therefore you'd have to assume that there's absolutely no expectation from the club that he will start a game this season. Yet here we are, potentially going into that situation on the first league game of the season. That's quite disappointing.. The club may yet pull something out of the bag, but I'd imagine it'll be all hands on deck to get anything over the line now.

Bit of a rate situation thst both there main two keepers got injured on the same day

Absolutely yes. But it wouldn't take both to be injured for any proposed loan to fall through. Just one. And as slim a chance as that was of happening, it was still a risk and one that has now been realised. And one that could have been avoided. Thus, I'd imagine it's put us in a challenging position that could have been avoided. Would you not agree?

  3. The GK situation is a stupid situation to have put ourselves in. We've known long enough that we'd need one, shouldn't be relying on Hutton as a back up, then try and sort an emergency loan from the ONLY club in Scotland with a competitive fixture this week that could scarper the loan. And look what happens.

I'm generally supportive of how we go about our business, will defend the club against silly comments I don't agree with etc. but for this one, it's a potential egg on your face scenario and just leaves the club open for people to moan, IF we end up with Hutton in goals and IF we end up losing.

Long term perspective, I'm still comfortable we will bring in the right players but the GK situation could've been avoided.

Think if the club came out and said just what you have said it would be appreciated by a good few of us ,

So you want the club to come out and say something along the lines of 'hey everyone, just to let you know that we are still trying to sign players, so bear with us as they will come soon enough.'?

Rhys has said in some interviews he's trying to add to the squad but they have to be the right players. Not sure what else people are expecting. When there's signing news, they will tell us. Until then, I trust there's players being scouted and offers being made.

The negativity in general on here is a bit mental tbh. I'd rather be a few games into the season and sign the right players than sign anyone just to make up the numbers for the 2st game of the season.

Anyone thinking the club, board, manager are not trying their best to get players in is just plain wrong.

But as others have said, we've a budget we need to work within and other clubs are targeting the same players as us meaning it's taking longer than anyone would like as players are holding out for the most money they can get.

Would I rather we have more players in by now? Of course. Am I panicking that it's not happened yet? Nope.

We took our time to assemble the squad last season too. And look how it turned out in the end. ♦️

  5. Every team has their overly critical fans, their happy clappers, their sensible and level headed fans and their share of pure roasters. Without exception.

And when the league starts on Saturday, even those who try to pretend they don't fall into a certain category will revert to type.

Guaranteed there will be some eyebrow raising and shock results in the first few weeks. It always happens. And the knee jerk panicking will commence from some, whilst the level headed will say how there's a long way to go etc etc.

I fully expect our first game away to Dunfermline to be tough. Every game this season will be tough. So if we win it, we're not gonna win the league, just like if we lose it, we're not going to be cannon fodder. I'm just going to try and enjoy the ride and hope Airdrie  manage to do enough to consolidate this season and build from there.

  6. I get why fans of other teams are tipping us to be bottom. They've not seen much of us, unlike Dunfermline fans who, largely, seem to be tipping us to end up higher than the bottom 2.

Very easy to look at how many points we finished behind Dunfermline and how many goals we conceded and make judgement. But we also ended up the 2nd top scoring team in Scotland behind Rangers. McCabe also came on leaps and bounds, tactics wise, off the back of some early seasons high scoring games. If we weren't hammering teams, we were being hammered. But he managed to put a stop to that, whilst not compromising on our style of play and still banging in the goals.

Think that's why many Airdrie fans, myself included, think we will do OK this season. Yeah it's going to be tough and yeah, we still need to add a few players to further strengthen the squads ability and depth, but I fully expect that to happen.

What I've seen in the cup so far reinforced how I feel. We've won 4 from 4 yet I still know we can play even better. Some rusty and tired performances, missed opportunities etc.

But what is there in abundance is confidence, team unity, a 'never say die' fighting spirit that I've not seen at Airdrie in a long time and a team fully bought into Rhys McCabe, one of the most exciting young managers in the game right now.

So I don't mind other team's fans writing us off. Makes it all the sweeter as and when we turn some teams over.

    Care to elaborate?

Doubt he can name them all 😂

Rumours have been few and far between so far, in terms of actual player names. Sounds like the club have closed ranks a bit, tightened up on any leaks etc. Thus less ITK posts on here. Silence in here's doesn't mean the club aren't trying their best to recruit. Less rumours and leaks is a good thing IMO, as it means the club are going about their business of trying to sign players without potential targets becoming public knowledge, which could derail a signing.

    Had heard that also

Also had heard the Justin to Crystal Palace rumour but with him being loaned back. Maybe the reason he's had less mins is due to staying fit before a medical or something. Again pure speculation but cash from him and then cash from possible next round could add to that budget

Selling him and getting him back on loan would be a superb win win for us. Also a good move for Justin and even Palace. He could do with another year of first team football and who better to be with than the team who've developed him thus far! Let's hope that happens. Saves us having to replace him for this season at least.

  9. Decent start in League cup for Airdrie, but as many have said already, these games don't count for anything when it comes to predicting league form. In saying that, we handled Dundee's physicality better than I expected and matched them throughout, so that's a positive.

ICT away tonight may hold more of a contest though, in terms of how we will fare against a fellow Championship side, especially on the road.

Not going to do a whole league prediction as I'd no doubt be miles off, but I am quietly confident that Airdrie can do enough to avoid relegation. Still short of a few bodies though, so the recruitment could either reinforce that confidence or smash it out the water.

Crazy at the time but turned out to be a success

Was going to say the exact same thing. Lots of fans were saying it was a disaster waiting to happen, far too young. Player managers don't work etc. But what a season it was. Not only from gaining promotion from the godforsaken league one, but 2nd highest goal scorers in Scotland, bringing some incredibly wild and wonderful games and goals with it, not least, owning Falkirk and skudding them in the play offs.

Not quite punting? Did you miss the other 8 aimless punts which went out the park? Rae kicked it directly into the path of a Dundee player about 3 times yesterday as a result of being forced to clear it due to Dundee’s press.

Naive if you think we can get away with that over the course of a season

    Yet we did yesterday.

2 games in, 2 wins, 2 clean sheets and the buzz on here is scintillating.

Give me FB over-enthusiasm any day.

  12. 2 games and 2 clean sheets so far. Also Rhys has stated that he aims to play the same style of football that worked so well for us last season. That was passing out from the back where possible. Yes some teams will press us and yes that means we will revert to long balls some times. I'm absolutely fine with that. Miles better than constant long hit and hope balls as a permanent style of play. Of course there'll be times we get caught out, pressed hard, misplace a pass. That's football and every team will make some mistakes. But if we can retain our style of play successfully enough, then I am all for it. Miles better to watch and we are a far more exciting team for it.

We're running at a near £1 million loss year on year. One or two decent gates aren't going to bring that back into the black, so the owners will be servicing the debt regardless. If they've decided a set budget for the season and anything earned over and above expectation genuinely goes back into the playing budget pot, then fair enough, but that would be an odd way to run a club that is perpetually operating at a loss anyway.

I can see it being an issue from a player's point of view, in that they should be wanting to win every single game and every single competition they can, but as a fan if you offered me a League Cup win every single season for the next ten years or a solid mid-table finish this season coming, I'd take the latter. A League Cup win wouldn't be any more significant to me than a Tennents Sixes or B&Q Cup win, nice to have, but nobody really gives a shit.

So you're saying that if Dundee won the League Cup, none of the fans would really give a shit?

    Yeah, sure.

And as for saying you'd rather a mid table league finish instead, well these things aren't connected and failing at one doesn't guarantee the other, so I can't buy into that type of thinking at all.

I'd expect my team to compete in every competition they take part in. Try to breed a winning mentality.

Not a chance Dundee fans would be saying it doesn't matter if you'd actually have won the game. Not a chance.

Of course it is. Everything is relative. If you have a tiny budget then any sort of reasonable sized one-off gate receipt is going to be of much more significance than it would be to a bigger club with a bigger budget, but the League Cup lost what little prestige it had as soon as it lost the Continental qualifying place, and even the prize money is pitiful, so personally speaking, I couldn't care less about how seriously or otherwise any Dundee manager views it, and if they want to treat it as a fitness and squad rotation exercise ahead of the league season then that's perfectly ok by me.

Yes it is all relative. And in the SPL, I'd guess you'll have one of the smallest budgets so you'd think a decent cup run and draw would help with that, and your survival chances as a result.

Interesting to read your thoughts on Aitken. I thought he was nowhere near it today. He didn’t do much wrong but he didn’t do much.

Seemed like a right youngster but I suppose that’s exactly what he is!

Clearly McCabe disagrees with you since he singles him out for praise in his post match interview. He put in a right good shift and, given its his first competitive start for us, I csn only see him getting better and better.
