  1. No reason why not. We are in the right position for now and the form team in the league. So it's not impossible, although a huge challenge. But I'm here for it.

First things first though, we need to actually secure the play off spot, hopefully starting with a positive result v Dunfermline tomorrow. That's all that matters right now.

  2. Irrespective of how fans think Raith played, the bottom line is that McCabe got his tactics spot on and once again, Murray didn't.

It was evident that the Raith players were told not to press, but to stand off us. We knocked the ball about at the back with ease. Now that's OK if the plan is to start pressing us when we advance up the park, but that just didn't happen, leading to Frizz having all the time and space he needed to rattle in a couple of crackers.

So yeah, I can see why you'd blame the players for not closing him down, but I genuinely think they were executing Murray's instructions. That entire first half, I cannot recall a single time you pressed as a team, whereas Airdrie did, thus why we won the ball back quickly when out of possession and  kept possession so well when on it.

2nd half, 3 subs and a clear change of tactic to start pressing. And it did make a big difference. But by that point, we are sitting 2 goals to the good and able to implement a tactic of hitting on the counter attack, which again, we executed to perfection.

So for me, the main difference between the two teams is not the quality of player, but the managers. And McCabe has comfortably come out on top again.

You all hated my comment, looks like boss man agrees with me , I'll be back here later to give you all a wee tip of the hat when we win 😉

Honestly wonder what some of you watch on a Saturday, cause it's certainly no what's been played in front of you.

Said it all season, 5 man midfield with grit. This isn't a game for a playmaker, it's a game to stamp authority on and try and control.

Vaughan isn't superman, he's a good player for sure but sometimes having your good players come off the bench is actually tactically better than starting them.

    You sure told them.

I doth my hat to you. ♦️😎♦️

I think finishing second may not be as favourable as it seems, as that team has to sit out for a week. Aye, they get to rest players, but do they not lose momentum?

Thistle should have done it last season, to be honest. They blew a 3 goal aggregate league with 20+ mins to go.

What momentum would that be? 😂

Has there been any kind of update on how Josh Rae is getting on? Sounded like he'd taken a really nasty one but I haven't seen anything since.

He ended up in hospital for a few days with a bleed on the brain and I believe he's pretty much out for the season now. Gutting for him but his safety and recovery comes first.

  6. Just read through this entire thread and it's fair to say that, aside from some grim posts, in large it's a decent read. Couple of thoughts from me.

I don't get the whole 'squad rotation' comments with a view to Saturday's game. There's 3 points to play for tonight so that should always be the priority. Strongest team needs to start.

Someone posted saying Raith have been poor v us, but I agree with the poster who said that, in large, that's been down to how Airdrie set up to play. Rhys has tactically trumped Murray so far this season. Think we can all agree on that. And I hope he manages it again tonight. Absolutely no doubt Murray will be over-thinking how he can change his fortunes but truth be told, they've all been tight games so I don't think there's a whole lot of tinkering needed from him. But he's proven in the past with us that he struggles to implement a plan b and think that's also a flaw we've exposed this year to date.

A lot of Raith fans saying this is a must win game for them but I'm not so sure. Airdrie have still to play Dundee Utd at home and, given we beat them 2 nil on their own patch the last time, you can bet your ass Rhys will be looking to beat them again at home.

Any Raith fan who doesn't think this season has been superb is off their head. Same for Airdrie. It's been an incredible season for us so far. 90%+ of opposition fans had us as fodder and expected us to be relegated, yet here we are, 5 games left, fighting for a promotion play off spot. It's utter madness.

My dream scenario to end this season would be Raith winning the title, Airdrie pipping Partick to 3rd and us beating Dundee Utd in the play offs on route to our own promotion dream.

A dream it may be, but given how the last year has gone, I'm willing to believe that anything is possible. ♦️🙏♦️

“Nice” Airdrieonians - the same group that roundly booed a player whose brother had the audacity to call out alledged racism from your own support. Despicable behaviour.

You took the time to put a word in italics but didn't take the time to spell it properly. 😂

Also, I think you'll find Airdrie were cleared and the fact still remains that the Quitongo brothers are scum bags of the highest order.

Probably the most boring argument on this website, but if you're so insistent on this odd hatchet men vs well-behaved team of sweethearts concept, you'll be shocked when you see who's closing in on top spot of the official SPFL 'dirty b*****d ratings'.

Well done for cementing your place at the top today. 🤭

Easily the dirtiest team we've played this season. But I'd expect nothing less with a wee shitey pants ned like Imrie as your manager.

Nah, I'm happy to take the crown this year, just disproving Glenmavis Diamond's point.

O'Connor's been dropped after a few dodgy performances and Strapp seems to be injured again. Waters and Broadfoot have done well in replacing them though, need the 2 of them to step up on Saturday.

But you've not disproven it. You've proven it. Morton are still top. 😂

  10. I get people thinking us being promoted again would be 'too soon' with back to back promotions. However, what it would mean for the club on so many levels is just an immense opportunity. So let's just dream about it for a second. Yeah, I know we could still end up 8th, but what would it mean if we did pull off the impossible?

The fans: To even be talking about the possibility is fairytale stuff after 10+ years of stagnation in League One. Having an away crowd to shout at every week, the increased atmosphere etc. Would be superb.

The players: Well, they'd deserve the shot at the top. It's what every player strives to achieve. And if they get us back to back promotions, they'll well and truly have earned their shot at the big league.

The board / owners: well, they've put their money where their mouth is and delivered so much already. For them to be rubbing shoulders with other top clubs would be well merited and show they've delivered what we all want.

The gaffer: back to back promotions in you're fledgling career? Why the f**k not! We all know his stock is rising and he's going to move on at some point, but why not enjoy him challenging the best clubs in Scotland? Yeah, we'd all be hoping we can hang on and not get pumped every week, but with Rhys's ambition, he'd be aiming for Europe. 😂

Finances: it'd just be massive. Last place in the SPL gets 3-4 times the amount you get for winning the Championship I believe. That's massive for a club like ours, not to mention the revenue from far bigger crowds each week, full capacity v the old firm, increased hospitality, sponsorship etc. Even if we got relegated straight away we'd be in a far stronger financial position to challenge for promotion again.

So yeah it's fairytale stuff, but am I dreaming of us being promoted now? Too right. Do I believe this group of players, led by Rhys, could do it? Yeah I do. I'm here for the ride and would love to at least get a shot at the play offs and see how we go from there. It's in our own hands now.

He was applauded on to the pitch then off it before the game. He was also applauded when subbed. Gesturing to the NW is how he'll be remembered tho. Show a bit of class big man you were well liked here. Poor show

He will also be remembered as the guy who scored the first goal tonight and is a firm fans favourite at Airdrie. So I'm sure he will cope.

I agree 100% but I have no idea why he gestures towards the NW when he comes off. Fans loved him here if he has any complaints about his treatment they belong to the dug out not the fans. Complete dick head move from the big man imo.

Maybe he was being given pelters and just gave some back?

Irrespective, he's an Airdrie player now and it's his job to score and he did just that. Gabby's goal was even better, what a strike.

Outwith the goals, there wasn't much quality football from either team, but with a pitch resembling a cabbage patch, its no wonder.

  13. The outcome of this game could go down to whatever Airdrie team turn up. I'm sure Dunfermline fans could probably say the same about their team.

The style of play McCabe implements is excellent to watch and effective as f**k when we are on it. Equally, it can be suicidal and bombs are stuff if we are not.

If we cut out the unforced errors and keep it tight at the back, there's no point why we cannot come away with at least a point, if not a win. For that to happen, I'd have Hancock and McCabe back in from the start. Let's wait and see.
