  1. Cheers , that's still a decent effort considering all those scared to go :)

There's a difference between being scared to go and choosing not to put yourself in what can be a very intimidating and hostile atmosphere. I have been to Queens' games at Ibrox this season without much problem personally but have seen and heard others experience of what the home fans can do. I will be there on Sunday but can understand why others have decided not to go.

I don,t like the section either but Queens are playing in a play off game so any real fan will go. You can,t pick and choose the playoff game you go to and the bonus is that is only a £5. Rangers fans above and either side who cares I think the Police and stewards will keep us all safe.

Not sure if you are being entirely serious with your thinking that the Police and especially the stewards will keep you safe. Try telling that to Queen's fans and fans of other visiting Clubs who have had food and drink thrown over them. The police probably won't intervene in any problem inside the ground unless requested by the stewards, and the stewards tend to do a Lord Nelson and turn a blind eye to the home fans' behaviour. Even if admission was free I'm sure a lot of people would still opt to spend their Sunday in more peaceful surroundings.

  2. What's the problem with McShane? Absolutely ridiculous comment to say 'overrated, and easily replaced'As a youngster still making his way in the game, of course his performances will dip. Easily the most creative midfielder at the club, and his numerous assists from set-plays have been a big bonus this season. The good Carmichael as you refer to has only recently found some kind of form, surprisingly, as he did at this time last season?Far sooner have McShane playing for Queens next season than Carmichael. McShane has improved since becoming a regular starter, whilst Carmichael is the most frustrating player at the club.

People are allowed to have their own opinions aren't they, just like you. Can McShane still be classed as a youngster making his way in the game, he's into his twenties and does not appear to be improving. I think we have potentially better players than McShane out on loan and if Millar was fitter McShane would struggle to get in the side. A good squad player at best. It would be interesting to see the percentages of how many of his set play deliveries actually resulted in goals. His asset is his fitness and workrate which he needs to compensate for the shortage of ability. Yes he has a modicum of ability but is no way indispensable. Carmichael has performed well for most of the season, not just lately. How many MOM awards has McShane won compared to Carmichael this season. Certainly at away games I can't recall McShane getting one award on the travel buses whilst Carmichael has won several.

  3. I'm sure the rangers manager has watched plenty of the top clubs in the World defending corners, holding, blocking runs, arms all over the place to stop the opposition and he would probably praise their tenacity, but when Queens dare to do it to his side the toys get chucked oot the pram. As others have said, his side are hardly angels when defending corners.

  4. The commercial commission crew ;)

Must admit I have very limited dealings with the Commercial Dep't, certainly a lot less than many supporters, but from the outside the Commercial operations seem to be run more professionally than before. Obviously the BOD agreed salaries and commissions and are happy with that set-up. As long as the Club is making money from Commercial ventures I don't see why some fans should have a problem with it, unless of course you are implying that something underhand may be going on. Payment by commission is a standard practice in many sales jobs.

  5. Again , see enough in Mark Millar's cameo to say he would be a real asset for us if we somehow got him match fit and in the right frame of mind. Ability wise, I see no better midfielder - outwith the big three in our league - and some of his touches when introduced yesterday were sublime . You always wander about this kind of player and if they are ever going to regularly produce what they definitely should be . Is he worth another deal ? With a pre- season behind him , I'd say yes.- just

Agreed, I think he has great ability but it's obvious he needs to get match fit which he may do with a full pre-season. Worth another deal I would say.

  6. Young goalkeeper Jim Atkinson signs a new 2 year deal at Palmerston ......

Hopefully ready to claim the goalies spot as first choice. No problem with that, he's been patient and hasn't let us down when asked to step in. Also excellent news about Dowie, a stand-out this season. With quite a few of the experienced outfield players signed up for next season hopefully the Manager can persuade some of the established younger players to stay on.

  7. Congratulations and well done to the team, backroom staff and Manager, a great achievement to finish fourth in this very hard division, and all done without a recognised assistant Manager. Who'd have thunk it eh? Maybe not as crucial a position as some would have us believe. Hopefully we can carry our recent good form into the play-offs but even if we fall at the first hurdle it has still been a successful season.

It's a pity that a lot of supporters left before the "lap of honour" yesterday but I suppose with the play-offs still to come it didn't actually feel like the last end of season game. One (very) small complaint was the attitude of Chris Mitchell during this, he walked round the pitch with his hands stuck in his pockets, never once did I see him wave or acknowledge the supporters. Was he frustrated at an injury plagued season or just acting like a twat. If he didn't want to be there he should have stayed in the dressing room.

Understandable if we rest some players for the trip to Livingston but it would be nice to record a decent result against them on their own patch at least once this season.

Bring on the Play-offs. Hibs or rangers I don't care the important thing is we are there.

  8. By being at the game you should have noticed that Mitchell was running/training and therefore I would expect that he isn't therefore injured.

Players returning from injury, or still carrying a slight injury often do running/training exercises prior to games if they are not involved in the team warm-ups, indeed I noticed one Alloa player being put through a gut-wrenching stint with Paddy Connelly before yesterday's game. That does not answer the queries as to Mitchell's match fitness or future at the Club. Mitchell actually looked to be walking with a slight limp when he went to speak to some fans behind the goals. Maybe they asked him about his situation and they can shed some light on whats happening.

  9. Chris Mitchell is he out with a injury again ? Has he played his last game for Queens ?

Were you at the game yesterday?

Does being at the game yesterday have any relevance to Northfield's queries. I was wondering myself what the position is regarding Mitchell's injury situation and future with the Club. I was at the game yesterday but funnily enough that does not seem to have shed any light on the situation.

  10. I agree with the consensus view here.

It's a shame because these guys do add colour and apart from the similar incident on Thursday, they added significantly to the occasion.

I know that the behaviour can be anti-social though and today's incident certainly falls into that category. I was in the main stand and it was bloody loud. God knows what it's like if you're in the vicinity. I saw a bloke carrying a small child away to the side soon afterwards.

I was also struck by the fact that police and stewards homed in afterwards. I'd have thought that having some nearby in the first place, might have been an idea after Thursday. I'd also have thought that having CCTV cameras trained on the area would be sensible and might prove helpful.

I really hope the group can police themselves, but if not, restrictions will need to be imposed.

It's not so long ago that this group were claiming of being unfairly harassed because they were being searched on the way in and police and stewards were standing near them victimising them during games like big bullies. I had little sympathy for them then and after Thursday's and today's game I have even less. Like others I appreciate the atmosphere that they bring to games when channeled in the right way but that does not give them the right to spoil other people's enjoyment with such stupid pranks.

To be honest I don't mind the smoke grenades if we've just scored a goal or there's a big atmosphere at the game. However, the bangers are just pathetic and make folk shit their pants and destroy the atmosphere - rather than make you chuckle and have a good experience.

In case anyone missed this news item, the rangers supporter who let off the smokebomb at Thursday night's game was banned for a year from attending matches and fined 350 pounds by the Courts. You decide if it's a smart thing to do and also consider if it's worth the possibility of the club being censured by the Football Authorities.

  11. One of my worries for Sun game is the possibility of sending off. I think it will be a highly charged match that could end in some over zealous tackles. Not only would this be a disaster for the match but could have an impact on the run in. Hope Fowler stresses the importance of 11 men staying on the pitch.

You're right it will be, or should be, a highly charged match considering what's at stake but I certainly don't want Queens players to stand back admiring Falkirk's play for fear of giving away fouls and potentially being booked or worse. We need to be right in about them, putting in tackles and defending as far up the park as possible. We have enough skillful players to win this match, my concern is do we have enough players with the appetite to get stuck in.

  12. Pat Slattery off on loan to Queens Park again. After his performances later in the promotion season under Magic, though unfortunately picking up an injury at the end of the season IIRC, I expected him to kick on and be a regular contender for a starting place in the 1st team. He looked like a player who could add a bit of dig in midfield and I believe he can cover in several positions. Obviously both McIntyre and Fowler didn't think he was ready.

  13. I'm not sure why you've posted the above as a counter to what I was saying. I wouldn't see a 5th place finish as failure either, which is why I very explicitly said it would only feel that way because we've spent most of the season better off. Like you, I've said it would therefore now be a disappointment. My case has merely been to challenge the apparently wildly popular view that finishing 5th would mean we'd been "very successful".

Apologies, didn't mean to infer it as a counter to your post, just expressing my views on the matter, which are probably not that distant from yours. My point really was that I feel we have done exceptionally well to have been up there so long but part of the reason for that was the lack of the expected challenge from Falkirk and, to a lesser extent Raith Rovers, in the first half of the season. Since Falkirk, a bigger club as you say, have put together a good run and are hard on our heels, it may now be giving a more realistic view of where we should be at the end of the season. If we can hang on to the play-off spot it would be fantastic, but if we were to finish next in line to the four biggest clubs I would not deem the season to have been a failure.

  14. Yes, being above Falkirk, a bigger, wealthier club is good, but relinquishing a good lead to them as it starts to matter, surely dents any notion of an achievement. Like most, I don't know the circumstances of the player departures in January, but I do know that where they wound up is regrettable and that one wasn't replaced at all. If we do, as you and I believe, miss out on 4th, then it will not be source of outrage. It will naturally be one of disappointment though.

Considering the injuries to what were deemed to be key players for more than half of the season it is a great achievement that we have managed to sustain a challenge for one of the play-off spots. Leaving aside Hearts, who have proved to be a class above the rest, the other serious contenders for the play-off positions prior to the season starting were, in no particular order, Hibs, rangers, Falkirk, Raith Rovers and ourselves. Hibs early season form was a bit erratic to say the least but they have improved enough to all but secure second or third place. Pre-season favourites, rangers' form has also been fairly erratic but like Hibs they have managed to pick up enough points to probably remain in the play-off positions. That leaves Falkirk, Raith and ourselves. We can't dismiss the fact that the lack of a serious challenge from Falkirk and Raith Rovers early in the season helped our cause in maintaining our position in the play-off places. Falkirk, as you say, are a "bigger" and wealthier club so always had the potential to come good at some point, unfortunately it seems, aided by signing two of our players. Now that they have found a vein of form and have come up strongly to mount a challenge we are maybe getting a more realistic view of our position and capabilities. Hopefully we can still secure a top 4 place but I think we may need at least one of our main rivals to suffer a late dip in form and we would need to find a bit more consistency in our own performances. Finishing 5th would obviously be a disappointment after being up there almost all season but I would not class it as a failure if the so-called four bigger clubs happened to finish above us. I think Raith Rovers challenge has come too late for a top four finish but we can't afford many slip-ups in the run-in or it may be that avoiding 6th place is our aim.

  15. Apologies if this has been mentioned somewhere already, but I noticed in today's papers that no appeal has been received in time against Lyle's sending-off on Saturday. Can anyone shed any light on the reason for this? Did the Club decide that it was not worth challenging the sending-off or was it an administrative oversight not to lodge it in time? Not having seen any replays of the incident myself, it could be that the evidence was too strong to challenge the decision even though the Dumbarton player involved said he would speak up on Lyle's behalf if required.

  16. I was wondering if anyone on this site could give me some guidance on the following scenario? The large award winning building firm that I worked for has been liquidated after going into administration and owing money to other businesses and individuals. A new group of people have come forward who want to start a new building Company, using more or less the same name as the liquidated Company, using the Liquidated Company's premises and employing a lot of the liquidated Company's workers. Bearing in mind that none of the new Directors were involved with the liquidated Company and none of the liquidated Company's debts were paid to creditors would it be correct for this new Company to claim to be the former award winning Company and display these awards on their premises.

Thank-you in anticipation of your guidance on this matter.

  17. A local of a sporting nature that doesn't know we are playing in the QF on Friday might well have been living in a cave for the past month

Agreed. It has been mentioned in local papers, National papers, advertised as a live match on BBC Scotland's Sprtscene and on BBC Scotland Radio's Sportsound. I heard that even Border TV have mentioned it. Short of hiring a Town Crier to tour the streets shouting about it, I don't know how much more the Club can do.

  18. It doesnt "square". Not sure what your point is. Its already been acknowledged that its usually allowed in games well below capacity and wasnt yesterday. I dont know why that was though like others I presume its a result of last week v St Johnstone. All I did was answer the question as to why it "technically" shouldnt happen.

My point is quite simple really. When you go to a football match, the Club's supporters, the people who pay the money that you count, should know what the restrictions are instead of things changing from match to match. You raised the issue of metered turnstiles to identify the numbers in each part of the ground to comply with the Safety Certificate, yet it seems that the club sometimes flout this requirement to suit their needs. If people are in the habit of having the freedom of movement between the East Stand and covered terracing, especially in games not involving the "big" teams, and that option is suddenly denied them then they are right to question the policy and seek answers as to who is responsible, the Club, the police or the stewards.

As other posters have said, including the Chairman recently in the newspapers, we need to encourage more people through (metered) turnstiles to support the team yet we are in danger of frustrating those who already do part with their hard earned cash.

  19. Because it is a technical breach of the safety certificate which requires metered turnstiles to determine the number of people in each section of the ground. I appreciate that days when the crowd is way below capacity in all areas this is fairly pointless and has apparently been routinely ignored (I wasnt really conscious you could normally move between terrace and the Rosefield Stand having said that, you can't do so at the Main Stand).

Like others I presume if this has been stopped its probably due to tightening up after the St Johnstone fans last week caused some problems. I know there have been discussions this week following on from some of that but I wasnt involved in them. Stewarding and safety isnt my remit.

We could be making a mountain out of a molehill with this complaint. Having said that, if metered turnstiles are required to determine the numbers in each section, as you say, how does that square with sometimes having no turnstiles open at the Portland end (especially when low crowds are expected) and terracing spectators being allowed to enter via the East Stand turnstiles and passing through onto the covered terracing. How are numbers recorded then, or is it just when it suits the Club that a blind eye is turned to this practice. Surely they have been breaching the safety requirements.

Whilst I'm on the moan, I'm sure if the Chairman looked in Yellow Pages he could find an electrician to sort out the failed floodlights that have been broken for quite a few weeks now, maybe even more out than before. Maybe get "Ches" out of retirement.
