  1. It's based on my typical reaction to shite play by an Airdrie shirt being disappointment rather than anger. The folk sitting next to me might notice a weary sigh. Also .... I don't think that it helps to players improve but I'm not that "in control" of my emotions to be able to apply that reasoning before I react.
  2. Most of us know that we shouldn't but we still do it because it feels good to get that emotion off our chest. I draw the line at abusing Airdrie players but match officials and opposition managers and players are fair game.
  3. It's probably his opinion that mattered the most. From what I read he accepted it as it was intended, a sign of affection from the fans.
  4. I'm not an expert but I believe the dynamic is captured by a concept called intersectionality. There are different kinds of privilege / disadvantage. In places like the US and UK, if I'm white, male, hetero, rich and have no disability then I have maximum privilege. If I'm female, poor, gay, black and have a disability then I'm fucked. All variants in between exist somewhere on the privileged / fucked continuum.
  5. Nope, it's me saying to another human being that, even though I'm white and therefore haven't experienced the same racial abuse that you have, I still have empathy for you and the feelings you are expressing and want you to know that I wish you well and categorically reject the words and ideology of the person who abused you. Whether that makes a difference to the person with whom I'm sharing the sentiment, you'd have to ask them. Hopefully it helps them to feel an iota less shit about the abuse they've received. Call it dribble if you want. I'm not doing it to please you.
  6. Just in case I wasn't clear - "identity politics" == made up bullshit used as an ad-hom attack in a desperate attempt to undermine an opposing point of view rather than engaging in a debate in good faith. See also, "woke", "SJW", "snowflake", "Marxist" etc
  7. Or it was a huge deal and they thought "the club should do something about that racist fan". Or dozens of other hypothetical scenarios.
  8. Nope, I said I was extending my support on the grounds that he's been subject to racist abuse.
  9. Are you saying that calling out racism and supporting those who are subject to racist abuse is "preferential treatment"?
  10. From my perspective, it's called allyship. I have privilege because I'm white in a majority white country - the least I and others like me can do is use that privilege to let Rico know he is supported and that there are plenty of people willing to call out the abuse he received as unacceptable.
  11. You either trust the player by believing him when he said he received racist abuse or you insist that he provide proof before you support him. You make your own choices but I'll go with the former.
  12. Is this based on who we have signed today, or more who you know we'll have signed by the start of the season?
  13. It's not just bottom team though, is it? Dumbarton fan descriptions have ranged from "tries hard but not that brilliant" to "only thinks he's a football player". None of the "calm down" types seem to mention that.
  14. Looks like you got the Wardrop news correct. Will the Kerr rumour make it 3 for 3. https://www.airdriefc.com/2122-news/210603/sam-makes-diamonds-switch
  15. Young players do care because they've still to figure out the limit of their potential. Established players on a downward trajectory toward the end of their career are probably the ones who are focused more on money than playing at a higher level.
  16. What's our recent record like on developing young players to a leading League One or a Championship standard, enabling them to play an integral part in a strong push for promotion.
