He (Hartley) recommended Richard “Mitch” Mitchell as our down south scout but the idea of signing players from down south came from Mr Campbell.

Bar that one summer Hartley hasn’t done anything like it before or since 2018 and it was right to part ways imo as Mitch wasn’t up to much and Hartley didn’t exactly get his Scottish based signings right either (Mackin, Fasan, Froxylious, Haber etc)

The only thing I know about Mitch was that Margaret Lang said at a supporters meeting that Ross county had recommended him. The same Ross county that wouldve been  one of our main challengers that season if we'd been any good.

Where are you getting the 'over inflated opinion' bit? Have you spoken to him face to face? I think he comes over as quite a humble laddie any time he speaks.

Possibly part of his problem to be honest. Bags of ability but doesn't have that confidence and swagger players of his ilk really need unfortunately.

I get that managers are responsible for signing players (as they should be) but surely the bod would’ve had to approve the wage he was offered.

£1500 a week (at minimum) will be well above what we’ve offered players probably since we were in the premier league. I remember Peter Houston saying he couldn’t offer signings £1000 a week.

So the decision to pay that wage to Griffiths will have been a board one.

On the back of the manager saying that's how he wants to spend the money. If Rennie had said I'd rather spend it on two players the bod aren't going to say no.

A B Team combining a mixture of first team players who need game time/recovering from injury, limited number of promising young players on pro contracts who are on the verge of first team squad (it'll be league 1 after all!), promising young players on amateur contracts/looking to earn contracts, trialists and U18s promoted on a game by game basis. Coaches could be senior first team players doing their badges (common practice at other clubs). I believe the old FV Academy used to part fund young players wages through apprenticeship schemes. Add in sponsors and if need be fundraising - where there's a will...............

Talk of us having a first team squad of 18 so can't see many being available for a b team.

I asked at the time if it was the B4L money and was given some lovely response about it being a combination of B4L, Patrons and FSS as we are all in this together.

Now that is been proven to be a disaster the fingers are being pointed elsewhere 🤔

How are fingers being pointed. It's not the fault of either of those 3 groups its the fault of the bloody manager.

    Less than Lee Griffiths?

So less than 30k . We'd need what 15 players minimum at least. A mixture of your 3 under 18s and some experience. I presume they are all expected to play for nothing?  First team squad will be tight this season so can't see many of them being involved.  Coaches I presume would want expenses at least but wouldnt have salaries.  All seems quite cheap if we can get a proper b team together for that kind of money.  Plus the it's a recurring cost not just a one off like Griffiths and that money was given to the club on the condition it would be spent on signing a first team player.

Just weighing in on the Ian Murray speculation these are quotes from himself whilst being questioned about the Hibs job -

“I’m very, very happy where I am. I’ve enjoyed tremendous backing from my own board and I’ve really enjoyed getting to know Airdrie as a football club.

“I’ve been given time to build the football club and I’ve absolutely loved it.

“I love the group of players that I’ve got and my relationship with the board and chairman."

I'd like to think there'll be a new contract waiting for him at the end of the season regardless if we go up or not.

Everything you'd expect a manager to say if he's still doing a job for Airdrie. If Hibs were  in for him do you really think he'd hang about?

Yes and no. I think the Board at all times must protect the clubs reputation so regardless of who the manager wants, if it’s someone like Goodwillie then they must draw the line for the sake of the club. Managers will only be concerned with putting a winning team on the park.

Griffiths is more on the manager however with the money we were allegedly paying him then I think there’s a big question on whether the club can afford to take the risk on paying so much for a player. I said the same regarding Yogi spending fortunes on old players. At some point the board has to consider if it’s value for money.

I didn’t think it was worthwhile at the time but had it came good then it would be justified. Point is it didn’t work out so was a bad decision. Regardless of whether it was BFL money, it has been wasted when finances are going to be more crucial than ever.

Do we know that the signing of Griffiths was pushed by the management by the way?

The bfl handed over money to be used in the transfer window to sign a player. The manager signed the wrong player. Said manager is now moving on.  The money was wasted in this case but by the manager if you ask me not the bod. If the money hadn't been used I'm sure someone would've got it tight for that.  I said myself I think the cash would've been better spent on a centreback or midfielder but it's the manager who decides what he does with his budget at the end of the day. The goodwillie case is different. As I said who knows the full extent of that. I'm sure the guys on the bod will have learned from that one.

No, but they would have to sanction and fund the signing.

I refer you to the club statement of January 5th 2022.

"None of this will happen overnight, and we fully expect it will take the entire duration of our three-year directorships to come to fruition. Our short-term priority is, of course, to support Martin and Kenny and give them the resources they need to put a winning team on the pitch. To do that, we’ll always make decisions we believe to be in the best interests of the club, whether those decisions are popular with all fans or unpopular with some. Longer-term our goal is to rebuild the whole club on and off the pitch and to restore, in full, its former status as one of Scotland’s best run football clubs. We thank you all for your warm welcome and support so far, and commit to always working hard in the best interests of Falkirk Football Club. Our club belongs to all of us, and we all have a part to play in getting us back to the Premiership. We look forward to working with you over the coming months and years"

The goodwillie issue is one thing. Who knows the full extent of that but it needs to be the manager who decides on how his  budget is spent in 99 percent of cases.  If Rennie says to the bod the money that has been ringfenced for a striker I want to use to sign Lee Griffith's then the board surely have to back the manager or we'll struggle to get any manager in if the bod are having the final say on each and every player we sign.

Trying to sign Goodwillie and spending a fortune on Leigh Griffiths.

That's surely comes under appointing Rennie.  He would've put those two signings to the bod I very much doubt that the bod said we  must try and  sign either. The bairn for life  money was ringfenced for a player the manager signed the wrong player.

With all respect and after five plus months in charge are the board still uncovering “new issues” by the day ?

Yes and let's not forget that not all of them have been on the bod for that long. We still had Bateman and white hanging about until not that long ago.

  12. You'll struggle to find anyone on here that thinks that closing the academy wasnt a dreadful idea and that doesn't want a proper academy back at the club but it has to be done at the right time.  Spending money on a b team won't sell season tickets I'm afraid and short termism as it may be we can't really look any further ahead than putting everything into getting out of this league.  There's also no point in putting under 18s into a first team full of absolute shitebags like our first 11.  They need an environment where they can play alongside players they can look up to and rely upon.

It's not exactly a surprise to some of us to find out that decisions are changing on various things considering the fact that the bod are uncovering new issues at the club by the day. If we can't afford a b team just now then unfortunately we just need to wait till we can afford it it's as simple as that. If the previous incumbents hadn't signed a pile of dross and pissed the clubs cash reserves down the drain on all sorts of stuff we probably could've afforded a b team.

While you broadly correct, the U18s beat Montrose U18 8-1 - they had 3 players who had been involved with  the Montrose first team the day before. The same Montrose team who defeated Falkirk first team 3-1.

Involved could mean anything from filled the bench to starting though? We haven't lost to Montrose 3 1 all season either by the way and we've had one or two youngsters on our bench for the majority of the season.

Wouldn’t be against Murray as manager but I don’t think he’d get the time needed to build a team like he has at Airdrie.

He didn't take long at Airdrie. They were 3rd in his first full season then second last season and beaten in the playoff final and now second again. Some folk seem to think Airdrie were nowhere the last two seasons and have suddenly become decent over night.

  15. We're currently in division 3 of youth development basically. The top teams play at the elite level then there's the level we were at before and then there is us at the moment.  If these boys are that good surely it should be left to the new manager to decide whether he promotes then into his first team squad or not. Problem is with some dross hanging about there isn't a lot of space left to gamble on youngsters unfortunately.

They’ve (new guys) been in for five ish months now. Appreciate like everyone there’s a lot to get right, but surely if true posted that their working 7 days a week getting the club back on an even keel it would be good to know how things are progressing. There’s people posting on sites about the issues with the youth teams, long term staff staff leaving, spat with our CEO and ex youth coach. Some transparency/accountability would be good.

It was only a few weeks ago they held an open meeting in the south stand for anyone to attend where any question could be asked. I'm sure once the season is out the way more meetings will be organised.

To the naked eye it looks like the BOD are embarking on a large scale cost cutting exercise.  May be necessary but does make the signing of LG even more ridiculous if we are now in a position where we are having to close down our youth teams and much of the off field activities to save funds.

For me the new BOD lost any right to blind confidence when they went against fans wishes and tried to sign DGW.  At that time they were silent rather than transparent and we're seeing the same head in sand now questions are being asked about the youth teams etc.  "It was the other guys" didn't wash for Deans etc and shouldn't wash for the new guys either.

Leadership is about having conviction in your decisions and getting others to buy into your vision.  The fact we don't even have a chairman yet is a real concern.  Where is the leadership?

As others have said, we need much more communication and some bold decision making over the next few weeks.  I really hope the new guys are up to it as we all want to see a winning team on the park and far less drama off it.

Whilst LG was undoubtedly the wrong player was that not what the bairn for life money was ringfenced for new players? It wasn't set up to fund any other areas of the business and I'd think those contributing wouldn't be too happy if it was used for something else. Wrong player was signed but the money wasnt going anywhere else. We're not shutting down youth teams anyway so that's nonsense unless you mean the under 11s which was a ridiculous idea in the first place.

Miller is out of contract imminently. So there is no financial barrier to getting rid of him. And there is, of course, absolutely no football reason to keep him on either. So no. Nice try though.

Exactly. He's getting paid to the end of the season may as well make him work for it.   I await the gnashing of teeth from miller and the press when he misses out though.

The point is, if you don’t know, which it appears you don’t, why are you pointing at the finger at any individual?
Your not the only one though.
I just treat most of these comments with a pinch of salt until there’s more information forthcoming.
I’m not sure of any real issues behind the scenes that we keep being told need to be addressed. What I do wish for is that we would focus on the REAL issues which are in front of our faces. I can’t see much being done at the moment to address them at all. Just a few poor appointments to date by our current board…

Might be the case that noone is leaving for reasons other than its time to move on who knows. Let's see who the new manager is and then take it from there. It's make or break time for not just the bod but the club as a whole I suspect . They need to get it right but let's give them the chance to get it right before we write them off entirely .

  20. 3 minutes ago, HopeStreetWalker said:

With the club not inviting applications for the managers job it can only men the have the candidate all  signed up.

Could well be and if that's the case then his announcement would probably come once either our season is over if he's unattached or once his clubs season has finished which could be a few weeks yet depending on playoff involvement etc.

Telfer will be playing at a higher level next season Imo, unlike most of the squad.

He might well be but then so did Gregor Buchanan when he left us. Telfer turns up one game in a blue moon he'll end up at back at Morton or maybe dick Campbell will turn him into iniesta.

It’s kinda reading to me that you are trying to deflect any ongoing issues at the club away from the current board and onto anything related to the past regime.
    Doesn’t wash with me…..

Surely it's the CEO that deals with the employees of the club on a day to day basis not the bod. I'm really not sure what a member of the bod would do to piss off day an individual  working in hospitality. At the moment anyone leaving is simply getting blamed on the bod with absolutely no reasoning to back it up. Again has anyone asked these people why they are leaving? Might be bugger all to do with Swinney or the board or it could be either who knows but someone must know why this lady left . Christ the Sam mcgivern issue was blamed on the board when it was simply just the wrong appointment for both parties.
