If that is a one off shift, I don't see the problem. Our staff group recently agreed to work 3 x 12 hour shifts a week, giving them 4 days off per week. Provided staff are consulted I don't have a problem with this.

Missing meals on a regular basis, particularly breakfast, is counter-productive as your body thinks there is a famine on and starts saving/ producing fat. At least that's what I heard.

Mind reading Irving Welsh's Filth and wincing at the use of this word to describe uniformed polis by the main character. Can't remember if the film glossed over this or not. I think it acknowledged the polis's Jamboness and left it at that. I do know that the character in film wasn't anywhere close to being as reprehensible as the one in the book.
