    Adam Legzdins.

What we thinking? Would you have him as number 1 for next season or take a chance, punt and see what's available?

For me, we absolutely need to have two senior 'keepers on the books. That shouldn't be a Ferrie or Sharp deputising, they are of a stage in development where they need to be playing football and have two or three consistent seasons behind them as regulars at part-time level). It's not helping these guys at all.

When you look at Arbroath going into this season and the last with two very credible 'keepers who have years at this level (although below in Gallagher's) case, I think you can even argue they've had two better options than us going into each season.

Legzdins has looked decent enough, not perfect but he's not going to throw one in very often and even if he's prone to the odd punch he should hold, he handles himself very comfortably in the air. If he's asking for reasonable terms, is fit (which could maybe be a worry with how long he spent out here) and continues that for the rest of the season, I think he should stay. If he opts to go, someone like a Parish or Fox could fill the experienced void.

The other option can then be a bit younger and more of a gamble. Think the standard of 'keeper in Scotland is pretty weak right now so would be inclined to look further afield. I think Siegrist was second choice in the Swiss second tier the season before United. Obviously had a good pedigree and money paid for him but there are a lot of these guys from the English academies who don't really take off until the second half of their 20s.

  2. Unless it’s changed due to COVID but I haven’t seen anything and don’t see why it would be!
    Yeah confirmed as 2 legs.

Wed 5th, Sun 9th, Wed 12th, Sat 15th, Wed 19th and Sun 23rd are dates.

Not sure about coverage this year as it'll be first time it's exclusive to Sky. Last time out the semis and final were covered. In the press release announcing Sky bought the rights, they did say they could broadcast all of them.
  3. Papers reckon Seny Dieng is on the verge of a £6m move to West Ham.
Fair fucks to anyone who predicted that during his loan spell at Dens.
He had a bit of criticism for one or two moments where be spilled things into bad areas but it was very obvious he was a level above most of the league. So so good in the air and just made things look effortless.

They have always endorsed each other and are on point policy wise but I get the feeling that he knows she's a bit of an embarrassment and useless at strategies to gain popularity in national politics. I don't think he'd ever remove her or not give a cabinet seat but don't think he'd shed a tear if a fuss caused her to not take up the list seat or went to the backbenches.

They all called out the leak you would think that the parties will be having a word to see if it was their representatives that leaked the confidential report.

You have to imagine that it will eventually come out and be another scandal dropping them now and then not facing a by-election seems like a better situation.

Would be a good excuse for Sarwar to purge Baillie.

What part is wishful thinking, some of you guys post what you want to happen I more often than not post what I think will happen, you're a fool if you don't think their is sufficient ammo for the Unionists to prolong their attack, as I said this could have been over if the committee had went one way but they've went the other and now everybody is going to continue the discussion, rightly or wrongly.

The last 4 weeks or so have been absolutely brutal for the SNP. Salmond has had a sensational appearance to attack his Sturgeon and make allegations of corruption. Sturgeon herself has had to submit to the inquiry and been televised for 8 hours whilst opposition politicians have had the opportunity to berate her. 24 hour rolling news has constantly delivered very damaging headlines (e.g. last week had 'Inquiry Finds Sturgeon Mislead Parliament' for days and Salmond quotations) at tea time.

Beyond that, people are broadly unhappy about covid restrictions and the gov have pretty much got it tight on almost every front possible - there have been countless headlines calling into question Scottish vaccination progress, teachers are always seething, the Old Firm have been pissed off, people have remembered that Derek Mackay exists, one of the parliamentary party being suspended for sexual misconduct, Ferrier back in the news with the police investigation. It's been as bad for a single party as I can remember and must be a strategists nightmare.

In the Senedd, the First Minister and leader of the ruling Labour administration stepped down after heavy scrutiny in which he was accused of breaching the ministerial code and him and his parties ethics were called into question over handling of sexual abuse allegations against a former colleague. Despite acquittal, he was wounded to the point of resigning a couple of years ago. His successor has been hammered on similar fronts to Sturgeon over COVID. Polling wise, Labour there are now on course for their worst ever result.

With all of that has happened here though, the independence vote is essentially still consolidated behind the SNP at constituency level and the average of the last 5 polls there has still been at 48%. If such a result was realised, it would be the biggest ever vote a party has had in the parliament.

I don't doubt that we'll hear about the Salmond story for a while longer but I personally think that when the new parliament is seated and the makeup of the new gov administration relegated, it's mostly going to be relegated back to the batshit twitter sphere. It's not carrying the sort of traction that the opposition parties need it to and they've made such a shitfest of the inquiry (just allowing the electorate to know someone like Margaret Mitchell exists is a spin doctors worst nightmare) that it's getting to the point where ownership of this may very soon become a liability.

  7. I have nothing to base this on, however I’m becoming increasingly concerned that our Yank paymasters will push for a move to an artificial surface over the summer. Possibly citing the condition of the Dens Park pitch over the winter period. The cost of maintaining a top quality pitch over a wet cold Scottish winter must be enormous. As I say there is no basis for this other than my idle mind.
In all honesty, it's insane that teams like ourselves don't have it. We spend a fortune on upkeep and it's an easy solution to massively cut expense.

I get why people are unhappy on the playing side but in all honesty, I think a lot of it is hysteria. Any time an old firm player gets a slight knock on one, it's a national news story.

The only thing that has been uploaded to DeeTV from last night at this point is the first half highlights. Convinced they're scared to have any of the rest of that pish on. I pay for this service, I want my shitty excuse from McPake about why we were so bad.

Hopefully busy drafting and proofreading a statement this morning.

  9. Is it a Neil McCann thing to not use any subs?
During one of the most important matches of his tenure against Hamilton near the end of the season, we had a very nervy one goal lead and he decided to bring a youth on for his senior debut at centre half. Not forced or anything, just tactical to change to a back 3 when we had another few options we could use.

The boy gave away a penalty which Imrie missed. McCann got off big time from that.

Didn't Blair McDougall expect Henry McLeish to endorse Yes at one point?  Seem to remember something like that a couple of months before the vote but in the end he never did.

McLeish was fairly apathetic about the whole thing and any comment positivity on anything no relatd, he kept on giving a very soft no vibe and tearing into Westminster. McDougall just gave some ridiculously unsubtle hints that he heard McLeish was in support of 'Yes' so the press again questioned him on it and he reiterated his position of being opposed to independence. This then solidified him into the no campaign publicly and printed the headlines he wanted which helped in a pretty weak news cycle.

Reckon we have a chance of getting McInnes if McPake goes in the summer? Wishful thinking that McPake will go but some interesting back story with McInnes.

He applied for our job when Alan Kernaghan was punted and Alex Rae was chosen over him. He solidfied St Johnstone into the side they are now by getting them to the top flight and progressing them until he was poached by Bristol City. Always been a case of, 'could have been us'.

More likely Tony Docherty or Paul Sheerin (assuming he isn't chosen after his interim stint). I believe the latter was interested in our job last time and was rejected out of hand.

A lot of people are willingly ignoring the climate of MeToo and Sturgeon is completely correct to say if there was any indication that the SNP had attempted to cover for Salmond then she would still be sat there today arguing about the complete opposite.

    That's it.

The issue is that he's this powerful figure and been so influential over the whole gov apparatus. If the civil service played to his tune and let him use procedure his way, it would have been seen as a stich up. Imagine the reaction if the Salmond and SNP appointed Lord Advocate dismissed the case after a few months.

So has anyone landed a knockout blow on wee Nicola yet cant watch the action?

The questions in themselves won't play very well and will come across as scathing in their wee edited shots on lunchtime news but in all, this has been probably the best performance that Sturgeon could have expected.

She's been pretty thorough and demonstrated a very good understanding of the chronology and been quite confident in taking to task the committee on conflating certain things etc and I think she's handled her level of engagement well.

I suspect that her performance today is not really going to be of much significance and just damage control.

  14. Pretty sure it'll be Angus Robertson and he'd model himself in a way that would similarly capture the sort of Sturgeon coalition we see today. I think it'll most likely be someone who would be politically quite similar to Sturgeon anyway, if it's a Cherry then it'll be a complete shitfest.

A bit unsure if Humza would handle it. Swinney would actually be competent at the job and a good First Minister in getting legislation passed but has been the sacrificial lamb fed to the shitfest of that education brief, don't think he'd be allowed to contest an election (but maybe a more shadowy figure behind the scenes).

I would say that the legal advice shows that while reservations were noted in October 2018 it was only in late December it became absolutely clear that they should drop the case.

I don't think it is as damaging as some claim.

If anything, if there's any presentation of anything at lease semi-coherent there in terms of some argument for further pursuing the case, it completely vindicates them on that specific point. Of course the next claim will just be that they've embellished that and there's not really any way or the gov to disprove that.

  16. I think that was the tagline to his Bebo  account (look it up kids) or similar while contracted to us!
49 career appearances in total, so David Irons did some truly miraculous management to wring most of the 38 games he had with us over two seasons. He then 'returned from injury' after months unavailable, as soon as we drew Celtic in the Scottish Cup in January 2010.
One appearance with Dundee having signed a two year contract and then three with Dover Athletic to round off his 'career': no club since 2011 and he's still only 33 now.
The biggest waster of all time in footballing terms.
Why was there doubt over his injury?

My recollection was that his hamstring was never right and we didn't give a medical.
  17. You've appointed the angriest man in Scottish football. Takes zero shit. Will have you playing from the back and there will be no variance from this model. Philosophy is more important than results.
In fairness, as an interim he didn't change much and season one, he did eventually more direct when we were in the shit.

I think it was more of a case of him signing himself into a situation where he simply had no control over playing style anymore. O'Hara, Holt and even Spanish Jon could handle that sort of direct game and moved on but none of his new batch really looked like they could. O'Hara in particular bailed him out big time the previous season after not being fancied and then needing to be played as a combative at wing back.

  18. I reckon that the lack of a sacking is because the Yanks are attempting to engender a long-term 'culture' at the club, i.e. promote from within, have a consistency of thought, approach, philosophy, make it clear that players and staff who come to the club will be immersed in the 'Dundee' way etc etc.
That's all fine and well if what you are doing delivers a degree of consistent success thanks to the people involved being fundamentally competent. Presumably they are attempting to engender a culture of ignorant incompetence and infuriating repetition.

Humans are brilliant in creating some sort of emotive nonsense at the expense of basic competence. Insane how often you see this sort of thing in football.
  19. All about the ref. Look at me. As bad as football refs
Unpopular opinion but the quality of refereeing in your average six nations game is much worse than anything you see in football with VAR.

For so few games, there are dodgy match changing decisions. It's a much easier sport to get these things right as well.
