  1. Today was a complete contrast to the free-flowing encounter at Links Park a short while ago. Today was dictated by the conditions with players understandably focussing more on avoiding mistakes than playing expressive football.
  2. Stirling were a shambles today and we took full advantage. Wales and Steven were back to their best, although they were given such a boost by the Albion's farcical defending. I know most Alloa fans want Hetherington back in, but for me Virtanen should keep that centre midfield role.
  3. The pre match scorn from QoS fans on this thread, coupled with AVFTT talking us and Andy Graham up last night, inevitably set up a defeat for us today. That was a tough watch, especially the first half which was utterly turgid and we looked devoid of any ideas. There was more endeavour in the second 45, but we never looked like scoring. Defensively we looked nervous throughout. The sooner Wales & Steven are back the better.
  4. A first visit to this venue - for an Edinburgh City game anyway - and it was a bit surreal. It was as though we thought "Job done" when we scored 5 minutes in, as we seemed to switch off and were so sloppy, outfought for most of the first half. Edinburgh deserved the half time lead, and could they have had a penalty in the first half as well? I had a terrible view of the incident admittedly, but it looked like we'd got away with one. Thankfully we got the finger out in the second half but I still thought 5-2 was a bit flattering.
  5. A competent and efficient performance from us yesterday, resulting in a comfortable win. Last week at Montrose was pure entertainment, but this game was much less adrenaline fuelled from a spectator's view. If I was a Kelty fan I'd be concerned. Maybe they're hit with injuries at the moment, but they looked like a team on a very low ebb. It will be an interesting battle to avoid 9th.
  6. No idea, possibly dissent? A hugely eventful game which you couldn't take your eyes off for a second. While our defence had a real off day, credit must be given to both teams for the attacking intent. The fans got their money's worth.
  7. A great result for Alloa yesterday, with decent goals and there's reason to be optimistic for the remainder of the season. I find myself looking forward to AG's post match interviews as well, he seems to have the right blend of positivity while keeping it real and not sugar coating. A good skill.
  8. That's mad that we've picked up more points from a 20-20 goal difference than Accies have from 30-13
  9. Enjoyed the first half, especially Sammon's equaliser. Well thoroughly deserved the win in the end, there was only one team in it throughout the 2nd half. It was a shame that the goals conceded were self inflicted, all excellent finishes mind you. Can't complain with the effort put in from the team today, a decent day out.
  10. I replied to the email from Fanbase which confirmed the purchase and they responded earlier today. I should get the money back in the next few days. There is also a "Contact us" option on Fanbase which should work as well.
  11. I wanted to go to this one, but a horrible flu bug picked up on Friday put paid to that. This must be our best result so far this season, capped off with some scenes at the end. I also like that Andy is putting Cawley in a central role, that pass for QC was sublime.
  12. I hate shit like this, as you say it's embarrassing and am glad no one was hurt. I thought it was a good game for a 0-0, and a point was the least we deserved. I'm not sure that Falkirk are a necessarily a better team than Accies, I suspect we're simply better suited to Hamilton's style of play. Bobby Wales did well today, if he can somehow find an end product he could be lethal at this level. Maybe one goal is all he needs.
  13. I can only echo the previous comments on Mungo McCallum, he signed in my first season following Alloa and he was excellent. Gregor Abel made some incredible signings that season and Mungo was among the best of them. If not for a bad injury the following season, he would surely have ended up playing at a higher level.
  14. Interesting draw for us. Not been to Fir Park since a hugely enjoyable League Cup penalty shoot out win there in the mid 90s. I fully expect the 'Well to get their first win over us in 37 years.
  15. I thought it was a really entertaining, open cup tie at Dunbar today. PJM had an error-ridden performance for us in goal and we were really fortunate that we conceded only 1. Some wasteful finishing by the hosts let us off the hook. Great to visit a new ground, a tidy one at that. The atmosphere was generally friendly and despite the relief of getting through I felt some sympathy for Dunbar going out. The fans I spoke to were decent and I wish them well in the EoS. They were a good advert for the 6th tier, though in turn we didn't look great for a team 3 leagues higher. Improvement required for the league campaign ahead.
  16. Cracking draw for us as an away day, absolute red neck if we f**k it up though.
  17. To say a league defeat at Montrose is long overdue is an understatement. In that regard it's difficult to begrudge Mo the win, however from an Alloa perspective this has been a rotten first quarter. Sadly a relegation scrap is looking very likely.
  18. Boards of Canada - 1969 REM - 9-9 Aphex Twin - 4 Sebadoh - Sixteen Boards of Canada - 5.9.78
  19. Rice was raging with the officials at half time, don't think I've seen him so rattled. I don't agree with his view that we didn't deserve to lose, Kelty were worthy winners yesterday.
  20. Bala's a great away trip. The less said about our draw the better.
  21. Disappointed but not too surprised, we had so little to offer going forward. Stirling played the better football and, despite neither keeper being really tested in open play, they deserved the win. Stirling could be a surprise package this term, but for us we look in dire need of some reinforcement from the loan market. Looking like a long season already.
  22. Some good, and bad, reminiscing on here. One of my favourite derbies was a 3-0 Jose Quitongo masterclass at the Recs around the mid 2000's. It's odd how infrequently the two teams have met on league business in the last 30 years or so. Whenever Stirling were doing well for a few years, we were utter dross; and vice versa. I'm a bit concerned that the momentum swing is more with Stirling at the moment, but also hopeful that we've taken some confidence from the Palmerston performance last Saturday.
  23. I can only apologise for my team giving you temporary false hope a week ago.
  24. That was a diabolical result today, dead rubber League Cup group tie or not. Rice's signings have generally been defensively minded, but they seem to be adding more problems than they're resolving. And as for the attacking options, we're basically relying on Conor Sammon. Pretty worrying.
